2023 Holiday pendant

Chose the one in the middle. Truthfully, whatever color variation you are seeing in other photos / videos appears to be largely due to lighting + angles. They all look more or less the same shade of grey irl. I do note that some are slightly more flatter than others but colorwise there is no starking ‘light grey vs dark grey’ (atleast not among the 5 I was shown)

Hm, yeah, the different “color variations” I’ve seen from the photos seem to be just different angles at which the pendants are facing. Or someone focusing on one pendant in the shot instead of the other. I don’t think there’s a lot of variance in these stones. Obsidian, in general, is more standardized.

Also, in terms of whether darker or lighter is preferred. I guess the darker one would contrast the sparkles better. But I don’t think the “sparkles” are very distinct at all. The lighter one looks more “heathered” but I’m aware that these supposed color differences are primarily the result of different exposure settings from the camera.

Overall, I had a brief moment of interest when I saw the heathered looking obsidian. But seeing as it’s just a photo illusion, and also that the stone doesn’t really sparkle… Yeah, I’m not interested.

This year’s holiday pendant reception reminds me of the 2017 bullseye pendant, which also was not very popular and kind of seen as an uglier version of tigers eye. I don’t know if that year’s pendant had much of a resale market, either. I’m imagining that the 2023 pendant will be similarly equated as the uglier cousin of gray mop…

This is why one should always wait for the release and seeing them before saying no (with few exceptions like not liking the metal obviously).

I was going to decline, but wow these are beautiful. I have my appointment tomorrow and I am so tempted now… I will still most likely decline since I am not looking to start a RG collection, but it’s so elegant especially the lighter stone…

I am so weak. I couldn’t resist and bought it haha! I really loved the subtle shimmer…

I'm sorry to interject my ridiculous sense of humor yet again, but I feel like this conversation is like beating a dead parrot.

"Look at this new limited piece! It's gorgeous!"
"It looks like twelve other pieces you have"
"No! It's different! If you squint and hold it at an angle, it's COMPLETELY different!"
"No it isn't."
"Yes it is!"
"No it isn't."
"Yes it is!"
"It's brown"
"But it glows! It's a glowing brown!"
"It looks like letterwood."
"But it's not! It's a totally different stone! I promise!!"

(Continue to keep hitting countertop - or your own head - with ex-parrot here.)

I received 2 from my SA, one for me and one for my sister. We both passed. I think the problem was that no matter what the stone looked like in the box, when you put it on it turned brown against the skin. It just was not complimentary to our skin types. She's very pale and I am medium dark and it didn't look all that on either of us. Wish it was red. Ah well. Next year...

Ahahaha, I had to look up the old thread from 2017. Where people were talking about the bullseye having iridescent striations, and texture, and being burgundy red. And then finally the thread being like, “Okay, it just looks brown.”

Every year, my favorite quote that you inevitably hear on this forum is the one where they say, “This year’s holiday pendant looks different in different lighting.” Yes, I would obviously expect that of every material in the universe, but I don’t carry a stage light on me at all times to show passersby that my pendant is actually a pastel salmon color, when it’s actually just brownish orange carnelian.

I know we’re all a little delulu for VCA on this forum. But I’ll be putting my foot down and be the first to call out the emperor’s new clothes for this year.

I think this year’s pendant is a disappointment. Underwhelming. Duplicative. Should’ve done pietersite/sodalite if they wanted to use one of the new stones.

And y’all know this thread would be popping off the rails if VCA decided to use jade, opal, or sugilite this year.

I can see why some people may find it to be boring, but imo it has a sophisticated, elegant charm to it. Not sure if it's the lighting but your stone is giving me the galaxy vibe. I like it better than the rhodonite & celadon from the previous years.

I honestly wasn’t sold at first when I saw some pictures of it online but when I did some research about silver obsidian, I decided I want one. Also, the price is reasonable for me:-)
