Subject change - I love bags and jewelry but I’m also a big foodie!

We have a lot of different regions, cultures and countries represented on this thread. What is everyone’s favorite spice and dish?

I’m a sucker for truffles, cayenne pepper, basil and garlic. I could eat sashimi or poke every day (I don’t want the rice. Blech!) and prefer Asian or Mediterranean foods.

From time to time I crave other Asian food - Japanese sushi, beef rendang, tom yum. And I love curry! But not for everyday though. I also love biryani, kabab and also Korean dishes. There are times that I also crave Italian pasta. Sometimes burritos. But of course my daily fare is our local food. Almost always eaten with rice. [emoji3]

I could eat Indian food every day. I love curry. I also love Thai curries. I also love basil - I love it in Thai food and on pizza. I love creamy sauces. For comfort home at home, I make Alfredo. I also love steak.
Oh, I like curry too! There's an Indian restaurant near us that we get takeout from once in a while... fabulous curries. I lean towards chicken or shrimp curry, since I'm not really fond of red meat, but The Hubster really likes something they do with lamb. (Lamb vindaloo? Am I spelling it right?)

I like Northern Italian food, too. Not a big fan of tomato sauces, which is more what they serve in the southern part of Italy. But put a cream sauce in front of me, or something with polenta, and yum!

But when anyone in the family is sick, I return to my roots and make my Gramma Rose's chicken soup. Definitely better medicine than Benadryl or antibiotics! :giggle:

I love Indian cheese in my curry, paneer, especially with a korma type sauce. Unfortunately our local Indian restaurant isn't very good, so I don't get it very often.

I've not heard of that. I'll have to see if my local restaurant has it. Is it something they'd have as a side dish?
It's usually a main course. You can get cheese cubes in most of the same sauces they put meat in. There is also an appetizer of battered fried cheese, called paneer pakora. I like the veggie pakora a little better.

I just looked it up on their on-line menu. They have a few different paneer appetizers. One of them is called Saag Paneeer, which they describe as "spinach & farmer's cheese cooked in traditional Northern Indian style." Maybe we'll try it next time we place an order!

I’m out of town for a conference and I’m happy to have my Mulberry with me. See how the harware reflects on my blazer.

I could eat Italian food every single day. Pasta and pizza are like a major food group for me! I’m also a really picky eater. I don’t like raw fish/meat, and don’t eat sushi because I don’t like seaweed. I don’t eat Indian food because I can’t stand the smell of curry, I like Mexican, but I’m the only person in my family who can’t handle spicy/hot, so it can be tricky. I like Thai food, but again, not spicy. My father considers me a complete failure because of this pickiness!

lol! My daughter has always hated Indian food. The rest of the family loves it. Funny thing, the daughter that hated Indian food married an Indian! His parents weren't happy that she wasn't Indian but they've been together so long that they became resigned to it. India is the country that fascinates me the most. I'll probably never get there.

I once dated a Mexican from Mexico City. He didn't like any heat at all in his food.
Aw. It’s a shame when people have issues because of culture. I don’t get that. I’m glad your son in law doesn’t share his parents’ issues.

I think my dating situation was eased a bit because we were all Catholic so the religion / denomination trumped ethnicity. (Or it could have been my stupendously winning personality. ROFLMBO!!!) in any case, I ended up liking the parents better than the son.

Can your daughter cook good Indian food for you?

Two food types I will eat with abandon - anything Asian from any region (minus rice which tastes like gummy nothing to me). And seafood. I know that’s not a type of cuisine but... lol!
You have to like spinach to like it!
I adore just about any vegetable. Just not kale or beets. So I’d be willing to give it a try.

I love Italian seasonings but I’m just not a fan of starchy stuff because it doesn’t have a taste to me. It’s like the m chewing gummy air. (My exceptions to starchy stuff are French fries and warm hot rolls - either of which I’ll inhale like a vaccumm.). So pizza dough and pasta aren’t things I want to eat. I pick the toppings off of pizza slices. Lol! And, I will eat the sauce and toppings and not eat the pasta. When I make spaghetti I steam veggies and put the sauce and beef over that.

Tell your dad that you just have an elevated palate that he can’t understand.

Okay so turmeric is easy. You sauté onions in butter or oil until they brown (and after that garlic/ginger if you like stronger flavors, but you can skip that if you want it more bland) and then you add as much turmeric as you can stand (I put an entire cup! It’s never too much IMO) and other spices that you like, then when they have toasted you can throw in cheese cubes or chicken pieces to fry or something like that to sauté, and then add in the liquids like coconut cream or tomato sauce and if you want to add in puréed spinach this would be a good time.... then you let it all simmer together for twenty minutes. Voila! You have a great dish to spoon on top of rice.
That’s more Indian style. Persian style would be to skip the ginger for sure and use no additional spices to the turmeric (saffron if you are rich) and for sauce no cream or spinach and instead tomato, water, lemon juice with chicken and lay fried eggplant slices on top and let the whole thing simmer for awhile. Then you have a great eggplant dish to put on top of slow cooked rice that has developed the crust on the bottom (totally different recipe).

Hope that helps! If you weren’t asking about cooking with it in something savory, particularly something meant to go with rice, then I don’t know what to tell you!

i have completed my mission - wore my all black bags (11 bags) at least 2 times this month, only 1 clutch left out, but that's fine.
And now i am back to the one i started with - my bday pressie, still very new to me, Balenciaga Bazar graffiti, this is my loudest one in terms of logo, but it's so unobvious that i'm ok with that :D scarf is Bal, too, and it has a HUGE logo on it, but you'd never tell what it is, so it's fine, too :D
