A little.

I'm not a trend-chaser in general. My aesthetic is pretty set, to a degree that it can be a challenge for me to go shopping when I actually NEED something because it's sometimes hard to find things that are "me."

But I think trends move the needle on what I perceive as "normal," too. Something that may have looked completely outrageous when I first saw it no longer does after a while because I get used to it when I see it everywhere. And sometimes when that happens, I begin to appreciate other elements of the item I didn't notice before because they were previously overpowered by my initial reaction.

Sometimes, too, it's just a question of not really understanding how to style something. I hear this a lot about the Givenchy Pandora. It doesn't look like much in photos or on a shelf, but when someone wears it well, it transforms the bag.

I am very much the same! I often hate a trend when it starts, then come around to it (or some aspect of it) as I get used to seeing it. It depends. Remember when LV Stephen Sprouse Leo scarves were the rage? I eventually got one. I wore the heck out of it and still wear it sometimes. But fur poofs on bags? I went from hating it to thinking it is sometimes cute on other people’s bags. But I won’t ever put one on my bag. Like you said, my aesthetic is pretty set and some trends just won’t appeal to me enough. I do find trends interesting though. I think it’s good to keep seeing new and different things, and then deciding what works for me and what doesn’t. I don’t want to be trendy, but do want to look contemporary, IYKWIM.

I’m curious. Does the change in trends affect your interest in bags:

• Not at all
• A little
• A lot
• Every time

I like to think I’m not moved by fashion trends but I’m realizing I’m more moved than I’d like.

I don’t teally like heavily logoed bags and hated mono bags.

But, now, I’m starting to warm up to logo bags. The LV reverse flap (I don’t know the name) is totally cute to me. And someone posted a Gucci mono bag that I thought was adorable.

Maybe it’s normal to move a bit with trends. Lord knows I wouldn’t want to be stuck trying to decorate my home with the 70’s harvet gold / olive green / macrame planters / multi shagged carpets my parents had when I was little. But, I still don’t want my “eye” to change in ways that make me discontent with what I already own.

What say you ladies?
I'd like to say I'm not influenced by trends, but in reality, I am, a little bit. I'm not usually the first to sign on to something new, but after seeing something again and again, it starts to look normal. Like when skinny jeans came in, I was thinking I would never. I thought they made people look out of proportion, but then sometime later, I was wearing skinny jeans almost exclusively. Now that they are going back out, I'm still in my skinny jeans.

I don't like logos but several years ago, I thought plain leather bags looked too plain, and opted for monogram. Then I got burnt out on signature, and now only carry mostly leather. I've bought leather bags that had logos bigger than I would like because I liked everything else, but I would prefer to not see the logos at all (except that on some bags, it lets me know which side is the front.) Even when I was wearing logos, I hated Gucci's monogram and I still do, but not as vehemently. I don't like LV logo in the standard brown, and I don't see me changing.

I don't think of any of my bags being trendy or out of style, except for a few of my very vintage bags (I'm thinking of those with kisslocks but even that is coming back in.) I think there are only so many bag shapes so most are timeless. I don't see other women with bags that think they are out of fashion, except when the bags are stretched out and overworn.

My views on color have varied. I used to have a colorful wardrobe with only black and brown bags. Now I have a more drab wardrobe with colorful bags.

I also think that if you went through the trend back then, you are less susceptible to sign on when it comes back around. So no avocado green shag carpet for me, no matter how popular it becomes.

Hi everyone! Haven't been here in over a year but started logging in again (for the jewelry threads actually, more interested in jewelry than bags these days). Thought I would pop back in to say hello to my old friends :)

I guess in a way I have been unconsciously on ban island hahah, so busy with baby that I haven't even thought of buying any new bags for more than a year now

Great post. I agree!

I completely agree that having gone through a trend “inoculates” you from the crazy. I giggled at all the 80’s mutton sleeve, poufy sleeved items I’m seeing in stores. Neva again!

You’ve been missed!!! I’m so glad to hear you and yours are doing well!! We’d love to see baby photos!

I’m out of town for a conference and I’m happy to have my Mulberry with me. See how the harware reflects on my blazer.

Subject change - I love bags and jewelry but I’m also a big foodie!

We have a lot of different regions, cultures and countries represented on this thread. What is everyone’s favorite spice and dish?

I’m a sucker for truffles, cayenne pepper, basil and garlic. I could eat sashimi or poke every day (I don’t want the rice. Blech!) and prefer Asian or Mediterranean foods.

Nice ‘seeing’ you back! [emoji3]
OMG! This bag is divine and you look totally fab!!!!

We both have the JC hobo. How does it compare in style and function? I think this is much prettier!!
Prior to buying this, I already thought of the similarity with the JC Raven. But this has gold hardware, so it’s totall different! Haha. Well, to me this is more of a crook of arm carry, while the Raven is hobo, i.e. shoulder carry. Even if I use the longer strap of the Mulberry for shoulder carry, I still think they give different vibe. And I think the Mulberry is more spacious inside than the Raven. And, Raven leather is smooth, while for this I chose the grained leather. Btw, can I add that lately I’ve been favoring gold tone hardware. I used to be solid for silver tone.

I could eat Indian food every day. I love curry. I also love Thai curries. I also love basil - I love it in Thai food and on pizza. I love creamy sauces. For comfort home at home, I make Alfredo. I also love steak.

oh... you mentioned one food / spice that I can’t do and that’s Indian / curry. I dated a guy from India when I was in college and he tried his best to get me to love curry. I just couldn’t. :whut: He was a sweetheart though. And his parents were so warm / welcoming / kind. I haven’t visited India yet but those warm memories make me want to.

You’d think i’d Like curry since it often has heat and my ethnic background is mostly US Creole and we adore heat. But the flavor... nope!

lol! My daughter has always hated Indian food. The rest of the family loves it. Funny thing, the daughter that hated Indian food married an Indian! His parents weren't happy that she wasn't Indian but they've been together so long that they became resigned to it. India is the country that fascinates me the most. I'll probably never get there.

I once dated a Mexican from Mexico City. He didn't like any heat at all in his food.
