Oh man selling on ebay is a complete drag. two bags were returned and now the coat seller is saying the coat is too big on her and would like a return....but the size tag and measurements were clearly posted? Argh. Definitely underlines that I need to MINDFULLY buy because selling is a nightmare. Let’s hope the other sales I have recently sent out all stick and I don’t have to deal with any more returns/relists because if nothing else I hate asking my mom to go to the post office when I’m not in the US.

I purchased my last bag for a long while, a red polene numero un. I have felt a bright red bag hole for a long time, and this one was here in the EU and 50% off retail which feels like a thrifty buy. Other than that I really have been on a spree this autumn and have updated my wardrobe and flipped a ton of my bags (man did it hurt to sell a few Massaccesis for next to no re-sale value but I needed to pare down and streamline for a few acquisitions) and now I need to TAKE it easy!!!!
Off to pause peninsula!

A few days ago I was telling DH that I knew I was going to have a problem buyer soon. I had gone too long without a complaint. Sure enough, my buyer didn't read the measurements in the listing. At least I'm not forced to take the return. Some things I prefer to sell on Mercari or even Tradesy, because I don't have to deal with possible return requests.

@Pessie
Do you know if the matte greyish colour of Negonda will eventually change to a deeper, richer colour due to patination?

Good job on listing!!!

If I’m busier I post for a little more. And I alway list for more on Vestiare and Tradesy. Not only are their fees more but they are much more of a hassle for sellers.

I think I mentioned this before. This was a bag I got interested in because I had just joined tPF and ladies were taking about it. I got caught up in the hype and bought more out of feeling I was aligning with what “people who buy quality buy” than because I loved the bag. Hard lesson learned. The style isn’t me. I don’t want python in a daily wear bag. And, I don’t buy anything without the hope of decent resale.
———
And in the “when it rains it pours” category, the person who bought my tote got it and immediately asked for a return because she said she bought too much.

And, Mr. S I taking me jewelry shopping tonight to help make up for the lost bag. It will be fun to pick out items for my bday and Christmas.
Thanks Spark! Happy to hear I'm not the only one who is evil to bargain buyers when time is scarce.

Thanks for sharing the story of your Celine. This is first time. I had been on a hiatus for several months. Any exotic skin bag is a tough call - especially snakes which are prone to scale lifting on drier climate. Now 80s and 90s is trendy and I hope 2000s will hit soon so the exotics would be more popular again. I especially miss ostrich. One of my most durable wallet is made of fish skin and my coin purse made of ostrich leather. Both had been around 5-10 years almost daily used but still looks in excellent condition. My friends have changed their designer ones 3-5 times within the same timeframe due to durabilitity issues. But for your Celine, I'm afraid there is no quick solution than wait till it's trendy again. If you ship abroad, it's important to mention you've CITES documents because it might be prohibited to receive a bag without the certificates.

Me too! After joining to this thread, love & resell value are the most important factors. It's easier to resell something you've loved than something you hate from the beginning and even better for decent resell price.

It's not only us who are experiencing hardships with the sales. I just overheard a convo between SAs at my local high end dept store and how they fumed about people returning their purchases after Black Friday.

There's a buyer who asked for instalment arrangement. I agreed without thinking the worst scenarios. Big mistake. After 2 months and over 100 messages, the bag is still not fully paid and we're speaking of a couple hundreds dollars. I do understand this might be huge amount of money to someone but I should have asked her to save up first and come back later when she can pay the full amount at once. My nightmare would be that she ask me to return her money before Christmas... Then I've even lost my chance to sell it for Christmas gift.

Love to see what you did pick yesterday for celebrating your birthday and Christmas if you don't mind sharing the joy.

Selling ANYWHERE is a complete drag. The ideal state is to be able to love our things forever. Buuuuuut, I’m too changeable and I like to look at least somewhat on trend. So, I will sell. That means my key is to really hold selling to the minimum which is for bags I’ve used and enjoyed but are now tired of. If I had gotten 5-8 years of consistent wear out of the Celine, I wouldn’t mind selling it for a fraction of retail. But, I didn’t. And it’s in great condition. So, I’m ticked it isn’t selling for something I think reasonable.

I’m cotrast, I sold my red caviar Chanel jumbo for a $500 “loss”. I have NO problems with that because I enjoyed it for a year before selling. I feel my usage is reasonable and expected depreciation.

I think with the holidays we’ll all be more likely to have problem buyers. People who don’t “get” the preloved marketplace and enter like drunken sailors on leave. :annoyed:

I’m sorry about your installment buyer. I’d like to think most of the time they are honestly trying to make the payments. But it does tie up your bag and keep you from selling which is a pain. Installments are always tricky. I’ve done it a few times and don’t know that I’d do it again. These are bags. Not kidneys. So it’s not like we are withholding something people actually need. But our zest to sell makes us do things we might not in our “regular” lives.

I like exotics. But prefer them in fun time bags. Not something for everyday.

This bags isn’t coming back around because it wasn’t an “it” bag. I just need the right buyer who sees its incredible quality (it’s seriously an amazingly well made bag with great materials)

On all the returns. Bah humbug. I really try not to buy if I feel there is a chance I’ll return. In fact, except for buying clothes online with designer or stores new to me where I will order 2 sizes in the same garmen, I never really return unless the product is grievously wrong. I’m one of the people who SMH when tPF’s return a great bag because of a teeny thread out of place or a microscopic crease that I can’t even see in their close up photos of the bag. I absolutely expect to get what I pay for and will demand that a new bag from a premier designer be “up to snuff”. But, I don’t expect superhuman perfection.

I’m curious. Does the change in trends affect your interest in bags:

• Not at all
• A little
• A lot
• Every time

I like to think I’m not moved by fashion trends but I’m realizing I’m more moved than I’d like.

I don’t teally like heavily logoed bags and hated mono bags.

But, now, I’m starting to warm up to logo bags. The LV reverse flap (I don’t know the name) is totally cute to me. And someone posted a Gucci mono bag that I thought was adorable.

Maybe it’s normal to move a bit with trends. Lord knows I wouldn’t want to be stuck trying to decorate my home with the 70’s harvet gold / olive green / macrame planters / multi shagged carpets my parents had when I was little. But, I still don’t want my “eye” to change in ways that make me discontent with what I already own.

What say you ladies?

 I’ve only had my negonda bag since August, and although I’ve used it a lot, I don’t really feel confident to say with certainty how it will age. My sense is that it’s not going to change character very much, and it’s meant to be a hard wearing leather so I’m not expecting patina. I think @catsinthebag and @minoxa33 have had theirs longer? If you’re not keen, you might be best to return it and have a look at some of the other leathers? It’s a lot of money not to be bowled over by it  Sorry I can’t be of more help.

i am not falling for new trends, mini bags? no, thanks! logo-mania? well, i have a few bags with very tiny logo, but most of my Bals and BV are logo-free, yet i am LOVING my Bal graffiti which mentions the brand name, but it's really very specific, and one should be aware of the brand to recognize it.

LOL! Yea. Mini bags are a no go for me because I expect my bags to actually carry my things. lol! And the macro bag trend of huge bags just is just stupid. I’m not a pack mule nor do I want to look like one.
Even though I have softened a bit of logos / mono, I’m still not buying them. I can’t WAIT for the pendulum to swing back and have bags be logo free or discreet!! Maybe this is a good things. I can horde my bag money and play with abandon when that happens.

And, I am just puzzled. Why are people ok with such big logos on bags but not say...pants or coats? It’s funny how seeing things so often make them expected. If I wore a big logo on my blouse at work, people (who may be carrying a heavily logoed bag) would think I’d lost my mind and become a race car driver:tup:. Just a funny thought.

A little.

I'm not a trend-chaser in general. My aesthetic is pretty set, to a degree that it can be a challenge for me to go shopping when I actually NEED something because it's sometimes hard to find things that are "me."

But I think trends move the needle on what I perceive as "normal," too. Something that may have looked completely outrageous when I first saw it no longer does after a while because I get used to it when I see it everywhere. And sometimes when that happens, I begin to appreciate other elements of the item I didn't notice before because they were previously overpowered by my initial reaction.

Sometimes, too, it's just a question of not really understanding how to style something. I hear this a lot about the Givenchy Pandora. It doesn't look like much in photos or on a shelf, but when someone wears it well, it transforms the bag.

I do not believe in patina here, either. My GP shows corner wear and the handles may be more smooth and shiny. But I would say the leather has stayed the same. Hope this helps!

i see a lot of people wearing heavily logo-ed clothes, footwear, i personally don't feel comfortable to work as a free walkin ad banner :yucky:
i have a Bal scarf with a massive logo across it, but it's nicely folded and hidden in bias fold and does not show when worn.
It's of a great lime green spring/summer-into-your-face pop of colour and one of my most worn scarves
i think, buy a logo-ed item is no harm, as long as you wear it tastefully.

@ipsum, Pessie is right. Negonda will soften with use, but will not patina the way box leather or a saddle leather like Barenia will. The handles may stretch a little and darken (especially if you love hand lotion the way I do and can’t be bothered with twillies). I’ve also had some corner wear, mostly smoothing of the corners. The leather holds up really well and can handle rain. But patina, no.
