2018 resolution - shopping my own bag and wallet collection. Any one else?

I have so much open space right now in the bag section. I know however that if my stuff doesn't sell it will fill right up again. I now have 12 bags at the consignment shop. That and a ton of clothes ,boots ,coats and some jewelry. I am trying so hard not to buy because things are on sale. Over the summer I bought way to many bags that I wanted to try because they were on sale and only one turned out to be a keeper. The ones that I paid full price for were keepers right from the start. Do you all get caught up in sales and try things you might not if it was at full price?

I’ve had successful bargain buys too, so in my case I think I will not generalize. I’m happy that you see more space now in your bag area! Hope the bags at consignment all sell fairly quickly.

I do occasionally succumb to temptation, but generally I try to buy things I would have bought anyways (on full price). As I have less wardrobe and storage space for all sorts of purchases, I am more discriminating  I also operate one-in one-out policies for things like crockery / glassware (love pretty homewares) and books.

I was less visible this week here because I attended a 3-day seminar. It was an intimate group of 10-12 people, so I really had to participate in the workshops. I hardly had time to take a peek at tpf. [emoji3] ETA: And this was also what helped me resist the BF sales!

Anyway, she’s finally here, my Mulberry Leighton!! Size is just right for me (it was a tad big on my sister). She’s not as leathery fragrant as my other 2 Mulberrys, but still, I can’t wait to use her!

Right now, DH’s ankle is keeping me away from the stores, and online, I can try to resist by telling myself I shouldn’t buy anything I can’t touch and know how it feels. But yes, there are a lot of times when I’ve had to take a step back and ask myself, “Would you still want this if it was full price?”

I purchased heavily discounted Deciem skincare items to try out which were planned because I didn't want to pay full price in case they don't work. I had an eye on a mini tweed bag last week but didn't buy it since it's made of faux leather. I've promised to myself never ever buy faux leather bags again as I was sick of throwing any bags to trash bin after a year or two due to detoriation on plastic parts. Now I saw it for sale for around $20 so I just had to buy it. It should be enough to feed my mini bag cravings till the trend is over. I've plans to list at least 5 bags tomorrow. My new year resolution is aim to downsize my bag collection down to 5 bags but I'm pretty sure it won't happen in a year. Never hurt trying. I've around 30 bags now.

I think my Burberry was a limited edition (it was called something like ‘with chain detail’). I agree I don’t like the plaid on the side of the typical Banner bag, but I love everything about this one - the weight, the colour, the elegant profile of the side panels. Whenever I carry it, I remember how much I like it and have a hard time switching out!

Yes, I have a Diorever WOC. It has good capacity. I carry it for weekends and for business (e.g. dinners). It’s very subtly branded, and in taurillon leather, so it doesn’t have a single scratch. I like it a lot. Here’s a picture, including ‘what fits’ from a Valentine’s weekend earlier this year. And wandering around Rome in the summer.
Beautiful bag... and it really holds a lot!

OMG! After 3 years up for sale I got an offer on the Celine. It’s low but not low ball if you get what I mean.

I really don’t want to sell it for that price but I’m wondering if this is STRONG sign that this is what the bag is actually worth.

Should I take it? I’d be selling it for 15% or original retail and a third of what I paid for it. :panic: Gosh that just seems soooo low for a bag that is excellent quality. I just don’t like / want it.
I say sell. Three years is a long time to have it occupying your mind.

I've been guilty of this in past years, definitely! This thread has helped keep it under control, though.

Plus, with all the closet clear-outs I've been doing, I forced myself to get rid of all the mistakes, many of which were bargain sale items that just never worked out. This year at the Nordstrom anniversary sale (which does have very deep discounts) I didn't buy anything except two nightgowns (which I already knew would work) and some skin care items (ones that I already use). So I think I'm finally learning... maybe!

I’m resisting Black Friday sales generally speaking, but I have bought a cashmere cardigan online. It’s half price + an extra 10% for Black Friday, and I already have the same style in another colour, so I know I’ll like it a lot and I think it’s a good buy. Other than that I’m trying not to look!
Cashmere is always a good idea! I live in cashmere sweaters year-round (it never gets warm here on the coast). And if it's a style you already know, this sounds just perfect.

ETA: After I responded, I got to thinking... there's a brand of cashmere cardigan that I just love (I already own two). I wonder if they're on a Black Friday sale. So off I scurried to the Bloomingdale's web site, and sure enough, there they were, at 66% off. They had one in my size, in a yummy color that will go beautifully with all my blue H scarves.
Oh, well... so much for being virtuous on Black Friday/Saturday!

What a gorgeous bag!!!! Is it easy to find your thing? I always struggle with bags that aren’t structured.
Yay for collection awareness!!!
Perhaps you can try restyling different outfits with the bags from inspiration from
fashion bloggers?
WOW! You have cleared out a lot! If the items don’t sell will you repost yourself or just donate to charity?

I think I’ve mentjoend I have the opposite problem a lot of people on tPF have but it’s stil a problem. I used to get so caught up in saving money that I only shopped sales / discount / preloved and ignored what I wanted. So, I ended up with a bunch of junk that never satisfied me. It’s been a slow process to learn to buy first what I want and just try to get the best deal on that - which sometimes will just be full price.

“Deal” items that weenie intentional buys are almost always a waste whether it’s handbags, clothes or even kitchen tools.

Speaking of which I “bought” 5 bags in my mind over these past two days. Lol! I seriously wanted each one. And this is after not only 2 days before being satisfied. SMH! It was a combo of seeing bags on tPF and the relentless sales messages. Suddenly I “had” to have the bags.

What calmed me down was remembering the huge failure I had during the 2016 holiday season. Remember I bought 5 bags (along with jewelry and other stuff)
in a frenzy? Aaaaaaaand how I only own one of those bags now because the others were bad purchase decisions? Well I’ve kept a note on my phone about what I purchased and how much hassle & expense I caused myself. Reading it again today sobered me right on up.

(That being said, I’m still eyeballing one of the bags. Maybe for my bday?)
I bought the small bags because they are so cute but it takes more work to arrange my things inside. That is why I don't reach for them much. Once I use them, I love the way they look.

I'm a huge bargain hunter. I am so easily influenced by sales. If something is full price, I can resist, but when it goes on sale, I have trouble saying no. I think buying preloved is a good strategy for me. There isn't as much risk, especially if I get enough of a deal that I can resell without losing any money. However, a lot of bags in my collection now are those that I know I would lose money on if I sell. That is probably part of why I hang onto some of them. I really shouldn't let it be a factor. The money is already gone. The money I would recoup would still be something. At this point, even if I carry them rarely, I still getting some value out of them.

I feel it is a risk every time I buy a bag. There is no way to know if I'm going to love it until I carry it. If I get something and it is a success, I feel encouraged to buy more. When I get something that turns out to be a bad experience, it slows me down.

There is one bag I'm stalking. I'm pretty sure I'll buy it as soon as the price drops to what I'm willing to pay. It was priced at that right when I almost bought it, but then the seller jacked up the price. So now I'm playing the waiting game.

If they don’t sell some I will keep and some I will list elsewhere. I don’t think I will be giving any away from this group. The cheapest one I could still use . The most expensive one is like new lv. So no gifts this time.
