Funny. We are just talking about colors and, today, I did the reverse of what I’ve been doing. I’m wearing pink so I wanted a neutral bag. That got me into my ivory Chanel.

I definitely need neutrals and colors in my bag wardrobe. I can’t be happy with just one or the other.

Question for everyone: if you had to pick only ONE color for your bag(s) in your wardrobe and it couldn’t be the safe choices of black or brown, what would it be?

Looking at my collection it would be a bag-off between green, ivory and silver.

I guess the most PT-associated choice is green and interestingly where I've spent the most money (not counting a white ostrich bag). People usually say they'll spend a lot on neutrals but go cheap on colour but for strong colour the exact shade matters even more, plus the bag is a lot more noticeable so for me it's actually better to invest.

I released eight bags since Jan 1. I have been content with my current, edited bag wardrobe. I am considering a black caviar wallet on chain GHW (possibly releasing my red lambskin WOC afterwards or not) and today I put my name down on the list for a Rouge H Garden Party 36 at the Hermès boutique. Does anyone with a GP care to comment on pros/cons, what they love/don’t love about it? Thanks in advance!

Check out the GP club thread (in the clubouse (Hermes Forum).

There are no cons about it from me, except perhaps it has no feet.

Another colour you may like is Bordeaux

Reactions: More bags
Hi @catsinthebag, thank you for your kind words and for your detailed review. You are speaking to my main concern, which is, can I wear it on my shoulder? I know some people can wear it on their shoulder, however, I know it is meant to be carried by hand or in the crook of the elbow - non shoulder carry is the reason why I haven’t purchased this bag yet. I recall my SA showed me a Rouge H Garden Party with Quadrige Lining three years ago and I turned it down back then. I like the contrast stitching on Rouge H, I feel it gives the bag a fresh look. What a brilliant assessment of the Garden Party, thank you.
To compare and contrast, I wore my Louis Vuitton Batignolles Horizontal today. It is lightweight (canvas), has flat straps and fits comfortably on the shoulder. The dimensions are similar to the GP. My BH is an easy, wonderful tote.
I will continue to do my research as I wait for the call - I’ll report back my decision either way.
Thanks catsinthebag!

Whatever anyone may say catsinthebag is correct, it's not a shoulder bag. Eve if the handles were flat and longer the base is too wide. The RH had a surtient lining. Haven't seen RH since then but I love the contrast lining.

CONGRATS on your sales. I know how hard it is for you sell in your market. So yay!!!

It’s interesting that you’ve made this switch (in bold) as I’ve been shifting a little bit from my adamant preference for preowned.

I’ve gotten some amazing preloved deals but slowly switched to buying new. I’m a little wearying of the hunting / authentication / refurb hassle. But, mostly it’s impatience. My collection is finally in a great place. So, when I add, it’s to fill a specific gap. If I want a purple feathered XYZ, I want the purple feathered XYZ now...not when someone else has decided to sell theirs. :-s

Also, when I was still figuring out my collection, I bought preloved to minimize losses on the highly likely chance I may flip the bag. Now, however, I am clear on what I want. 4 of my last 7 adds were brand new and (gasp!) full price. But they’re some of my best ever buys - I’ve worn them a LOT and still love them to pieces! Knowing what I want - and more importantly what I will keep - let’s me buy new because I’m not going to lose money from selling.

So, ideally, I’d buy everything new on sale. The problem is, most of the brands I’m most interested now in don’t have sales.

And, to add to the confusion, the only bags I really want from two of my favorite brands - Chanel and Dior - were made in previous seasons. So I still have to buy them preloved. :shrugs:

Anyone else changing their bag buying approach? Preloved to new? New to preloved? Big to small? Colorful to neutrals? Expensive to reasonably priced? Leather to vegan? Domestic brands to other sources? Change in preferred style? If so, what is the change and why?

I haven't changed but some of the designers I bought from have. Looking (for the moment only browsing) at very small or new companies that represent shared-values to mine.

Speaking of msd's love of leather smell, my new bag from indie Australian bag maker Pur Jus smells so amazingly leathery. View attachment 4076987View attachment 4076988
The leather is also so amazing to the touch and the prettiest metallic leather I've ever seen. It's called antique pearlized purple and it has such a subtle shimmer and it's such a versatile muted shade . Love it.

Very special, cool colour

Hello all, I am late to the conversation but wanted to share nevertheless. In my collection, I have two pairs of siblings and several LC LPs. First pair are the Mulberry Bayswaters. The mole grey one was my first premium bag - and then I could not resist the dusty rose one at Bicester Village. Second pair are the H GPs, which answers another question. They are under my most worn bags - always handheld or in the crook of my arm. Under the radar, easy to access, work stuff fits perfectly. And lightweight, which is a problem with the grey Bays, sadly. So I vote for the Garden Party! (And I am certainly the gold / caramel type.)

View attachment 4077946Here’s a wild one. I cut up a fur collar from a coat and used that.
Very creative! Did you start with leather pelts or did you modify an existing bag? I would think the smaller curves, etc though leather would be tough to do with a regular sewing machine.

I definitely agree. So many bags look chic in black. Very few have the right design and materials to make color look its best. And for certain colors - red and green having so many variations and pink and blue being the colors for which I’m the most picky - I find I have to be willing to open up the purse strings to get the right bag. And, I still don’t have “my” green bag yet.

That’s a good point. I love Gucci and Dior but haven’t loved their most recent offerings. (I’ve actually hated the changes the new Dior designer has done to those bags.) I love Chanel but I don’t want a double flap bag or inflated prices. So I’m sitting and sitting and waiting and waiting.

Ironically, the brand who has had the least amount of change in styles - Prada - is the one I’ve most fallen out of love with. They seem pretty static with too much saffiao and an endless parade of satchels. I own 3. How many more could I possibly want in my collection. :-s

So there is a sweet spot for change that many designers miss. I’m not a huge Fendi devotee so I don’t follow them closely. But, looking from the outside, it seems they do both iterative and wholesale change well. Givenchy also seems to be a brand that does change well (none of their bags look the same). I wonder how things will go under the new designer.

I asked about change and realized I’ve made some other changes over the past few years.

• Splurging is ok - I used to fall into a dead faint at the thought of spending $300 on a bag. But, I bought loooooooots of bags. So it’s not like I didn’t spend a lot on the category. I just didn’t spend wisely. :facepalm:I ended up having 150+ cheaper bags but none to love. I had to get comfortable with spending what I “needed” to spend to get the much smaller collection of 25ish bags I truly love.

• Materials are king! - I am so “over” saffiano, caviar, patent or any other material that doesn’t have a great hand feel. I want and demand great leathers: butter soft lamb, durable yet silky feeling goat, chewy calf leather, etc.

• Smaller but not small bags - I used to carry the kitchen sink. LOL! But, I don’t have little ones or even teens anymore. So I’ve downsized from huge satchels to preferring medium sized shoulder bags / cross bodies.

• Color, color, color - I used to have color in my bag collection but always wore black or dark pewter. Now I wear my colorful bags more than the neutrals. :happydance:

I feel exhausted by even thinking about bags unless they're impeccable, logo-free and available to try. Anything else offends me ATM.

I 'm so lucky I adore and enjoy what I have, I feel very sorry for people who are looking for their first bag(s)

BTW, Gucci have put back the release of the Re(Belle) python bag 3 times so I still haven't seen it. Kinda OK with me, not in a hurry but glad I didn't pay for pre-order.

Thank you! That is actually what I am trying to do: buy timeless bags which work for me. These are my go to colours, too. Black, grey, caramel, blush/dark red. I would like to add a green and / or blue bag but the right shade is hard to find... Something to look forward to and keep the eyes open! And a multi-coloured bag, too!

Thanks papertiger! We’re totally on the same wavelength, I have been reading through the GP thread (currently on page 86 of 268). I love the clubhouse threads, great pics and great intel. Also, I agree, the Bordeaux looks appealing, too. Thank you again.:flowers:

Good point on the width of the base.
