OK I'm back at my air conditioned hotel and can report. It's a hot day in Paris. First the bad news: there was lots of cutting in line before the main doors open. I was there before 5 am and and waited patiently. Somehow the number of people in line ahead of me seemed to double by the time the doors opened. Hermès needs to do a better job of policing this at future sales. Even so I made it in (just) with the main group at 9 am. Headed first to belts and scored exactly what I wanted (dark brown belt strap). Boom! Then headed to homewares and bought printed couch throw with enough lime green that it will go well in my living room. Next grabbed some gloves that were exactly what I wanted (black leather with silver button). Then I went to shoes and thought about some but ended up abstaining in favour of a 140 cm cashmere/silk scarf for myself that I hadn't planned on. Did extremely well in the 90 cm scarves, I bought to the limit of 10 and they are mainly for people at work but I managed to get a Hippolis for myself (to frame) (the only Hippopolis in the whole sale they told me) as well as a Maison des Carrès for framing (they had this in several colours). Finally I got a few maxi twillies for the work crowd. So, it was an extremely successful day. Crowd control was fine once I was in the sale but it wasn't good before I got in--those line cutters should be ashamed of themselves.
