I post here the photo of what my DH got for me yesterday at Paris sales.
5 carres (I did not like Chief indiens and Pique de fleuri I happened to have already, he forgot). I loved all the rest. Clearly 15 hours trip and 8.5 hours of waiting in lines were not worth it for him, so I doubt we will do it again in the same conditions.
Overall the experience is very unsatisfactory because they clearly do not manage the sale well considering the tripled number of people compared to previous years. And specifically resellers became a big problem because they are numerous. There were a lot of Chinese resellers, who often came in groups (trying to cut in with colleagues) and they shop apparently not to sell on ebay but for their established clients, they had loads of pictures on their phone cameras and call all the time to consult their clients (or maybe they buy for shops?). This takes a lot of time and they take a lot of time to finish their shopping. (So to enter it took twice longer than security guy estimated when DH asked him at 9 am.) Before the resellers have consulted their clients they hold whatever caught their eye.
Also I noticed in several previous sales that many people handle silks so carelessly that I strongly advise everyone here going to sale to inspect what you are getting for snags and stains (I got a damaged shawl a few years back).
Sadly, DH had 1 hour to shop after spending almost 6 hours in line. He arrived around 9 am and entered only around 3 pm. He spent around 1 hours in carres section and did not have time for anything else (his train was at 7 pm) since the line to pay took about 1.5 h (never saw that before). However, when in line for paying he managed to shop for belts. There was not much choice though (for sizes 90-95-100). He got two first atoll/colvert and gold/black but after checking they were 42 mm he returned them. He got me a thin bleu paradis instead, which was sold for EUR 300 instead of EUR 500. I am happy and SO grateful. Cooked him a nice dinner and now will go and get him a gift
