when was this birkins on sale you speak of?Just a few things to add.....
I have become only an occasional, lazy contributor to the forum here, though I love it. But I have been going to the sales annually for over 20 years. You know the French saying tout ca change tout c'est la meme chose?
I no longer believe in predicting what will happen when I get inside, because each year there are a few changes. Back in the day I could buy birkins at the sale. With, of course, the little "S" mark forever stamped in the leather. Ooh I miss those days because I am a sucker for leather.
I usually follow a pattern. The first day I arrive as close to 6 am as possible. With, very important, a stool and a sandwich! It works, more or less.
This time, tragically, I was lazy. Not much I needed, so I slept in and got in line at 10:15. Six hour later my sandwich was long gone and I deeply regretted leaving my stool at home. This was the longest I have ever, ever been in line. Next time I would go at 6am or much later. Lesson learned. Go before the break of dawn and suffer a bit,or go at 10 and suffer terribly.
The good.....there was no one trying to sneak in line in my area. Interesting to know that it remains a problem for the first in line.
There are still resellers and people who don't care what they get as long as they get a haul! One gentleman begged me to give him an Hermes umbrella I was holding if I chose not to take it. But it was not Hermes! I had to work to convince him it was a mass produced one from my hotel. He wanted everything in sight.
In the end, the sales are a pleasant addiction and by now I see a lot of old friends among the staff and security. My haul....just a few things I needed or liked. A beach towel with the chain d'ancre motif, two scarves, and four shawls. On the second day I was offered a scarf in Maison du Carre from under the table, but it was not my colorway.
Day two was a better one for time in line, though the scarves in particular were feeling depleted. Day one is best for selection, but in the future I would only go very early. I would always return on day to just because it is easier.
I saw someone noted that they saw a VAT tax number on their receipt. This is common, even in restaurants. You do not get any tax refund if you live outside the EU. Years ago there was a VAT station at the sales but it went away. You cannot claim it.
Someone else mentioned a last day 90% discount. Every now and then there will be a special Monday sale with extra discounts. This does not happen every year and probably depends on inventory. The discount varies by department. I've seen anextra 80% on ready-to-wear, an extra 50% on shoals. Scarves have always been gone by the final sale. It is fun to attend when it happens but more often than not it does not happen.
Anyway, I am done and ready to turn my attention to the rest of Paris! Happy to answer any questions if I am able.
when was this birkins on sale you speak of?![]()
Well over ten years ago, at the old location outside of the Metro Mironisnel. I still have a vert olive barenia birkin from this era, complete with a tiny s stamped under the logo. But I love it. The bags were available on the third day of the sales back then, which was also the VIP day. Salespeople would tell you to meet them in a discreet corner, then show up with a purse hidden inside a shopping bag. You peeked in the bag and said yes or no.
Is that flowery white one a mousseline? Nice haul and thank you for sharing. Here are my goodies. Thanks for letting me share.
Great choices! What is the name of that beautiful moussie? Here are my goodies. Thanks for letting me share.
Thank you for this very interesting post. Good old days... i can imagine how much nostalgie you must have each time you return these days to the chaos of current sales...Just a few things to add.....

Sorry to hear that ... hope you ´ll get what you're looking for ! Usually the 2nd day is a good day '
Perigord, Do not feel Bad about being there late. I was there at 6.15 and got into the sales area by 11.30. So, you did not lose that much time on me. Someone even told me the Story that resellers Camp outside Palais de Congres and just move their sleeping bags upstairs Once let in. At least around 8 pm there was a guard blocking the escalator - I wonder how many people would have started Camping if not.Just a few things to add.....
