OK I'm back at my air conditioned hotel and can report. It's a hot day in Paris. First the bad news: there was lots of cutting in line before the main doors open. I was there before 5 am and and waited patiently. Somehow the number of people in line ahead of me seemed to double by the time the doors opened. Hermès needs to do a better job of policing this at future sales. Even so I made it in (just) with the main group at 9 am. Headed first to belts and scored exactly what I wanted (dark brown belt strap). Boom! Then headed to homewares and bought printed couch throw with enough lime green that it will go well in my living room. Next grabbed some gloves that were exactly what I wanted (black leather with silver button). Then I went to shoes and thought about some but ended up abstaining in favour of a 140 cm cashmere/silk scarf for myself that I hadn't planned on. Did extremely well in the 90 cm scarves, I bought to the limit of 10 and they are mainly for people at work but I managed to get a Hippolis for myself (to frame) (the only Hippopolis in the whole sale they told me) as well as a Maison des Carrès for framing (they had this in several colours). Finally I got a few maxi twillies for the work crowd. So, it was an extremely successful day. Crowd control was fine once I was in the sale but it wasn't good before I got in--those line cutters should be ashamed of themselves. View attachment 3753789View attachment 3753790

Thank you so much for the report DavidFincher! I plan to go tomorrow. I was hesitant after hearing the linecutters which seems getting worse and worse but maison de carre is so tempting. I was gonna line up for 70s first but changing my mind. Hope they have some for tomorrow too!

Btw, was there still a huge queue outside? I'm unsure if i should pop in this evening or just concentrate on tomorrow morning...

Great haul! Did you notice if any jewellery was available?

@imoline, I am eagerly awaiting your report once you leave the soldes with DS and return to your abode to rest and post your progress for today. I am also interested what time you arrived this morning, and whether you felt safe while you were standing outside the building.
I bought. ...nothing, the 6 hours of queue put me in a non buying state.
My boy was very patient and gracefull ( more than me) ...so I will treat him instead ....and go to buy a fall 2017 scarf at le Faubourg tomorrow ...

Oh, how this saddens me to hear that you waited all those hours with nothing to show for your patience! Your DS sounds like a saint! Did you find that their selection of merchandise was no longer abundant by the time you entered? I am wishing you a lovely experience tomorrow at FSH!

I have just recently joined the line, approximately 3:30 p.m. I started the stopwatch on my iPhone, so I can tell how long the wait was for me. Here are a couple photos.

I would estimate this photo is the last 25% of the line.

Still that many outside? It looks like I should try tomorrow morning then.... Thanks for the report. And hope you find beauties inside!

I stopped at Starbucks downstairs to fortify myself with an iced noisette latte. I met a young girl there with a Kelly and asked her if she'd been upstairs. She had arrived today in Paris and had come here straightaway. She said she arrived at noon and she was done by 3:15 p.m. I suppose it depends on the unknown arrival habits of the masses. She said her girlfriend was still waiting and had arrived four hours ago

Overheard in line: "Last year when I came, I did not have enough money with me!"

I certainly hope this does not mean they accept only cash--no credit cards! Please comment if you were here today. I did not bring much cash.

It is impossible that they don't take cards. I wasn't there yet for this time but I always paid by a card during my previous visits. Don't worry!

if she arrived at Palais at 12.00 she could not have possible be done by 15.15 (that is without line cutting/buying a place in line). People who arrived at 9 am got in at 14.30. and what did she get?
all cards including Amex are accepted.

@j_kay thank you! Some of the conversations swirling around me are quite amusing.

Most overhead comment: Do you speak English? Around me are people from Japan, India, Singapore, China. I am not engaging in any of those conversations because I do not want to become trapped in a discussion with someone for hours on end. I have already taken two headache tablets today.
