Happy Father's Day to those of you who are celebrating with your favorite dad.

We're headed out to a very late brunch and I'm taking my new metallic Dior babies with me. The silver pairs nicely with the teal dress I just slipped into. So glad I decided to ignore my head and follow my heart to get this bag!!!!

@msd_bags happy early birthday to you as well!! Great scarf additions that was so very lucky! And I love the furla even more than when I first saw it. I didn't realize it's size and looks so good!

@Pessie beautiful pandora! And definitely a food for thought question - I'd say my miu miu hobo cuz it's sort of already falling apart lol, but if by choice, probably my vintage speedy.

@solange what a great question! I think I'd have to go with my navy nylon dooney & Bourke satchel- it zips up and has a strap for crossbody, and super lightweight. Mot exciting but will sure be super functional and practical to join the Doctor

@ksuromax Egypt has always been a goal destination for me, even as a small child. One day!

If you go to Egypt, take me with you!

That bag is gorgeous.

Do you have tips for choosing pre-loved/vintage bags? I've been trying to find any brand bag from my birth year and it's been difficult.

Gucci goes back to 1921 (although bags before the 1940s are very difficult but I am guessing your bday was not before then!). If you let me know your era (if not your year) I can tell you what was at the height of fashion then and which brand you should be seeking out.

As far as I know you can only tell Chanel dates back to 1985-'88 when they started numbers serial numbers on bags starting with 0XXXXX

Hermes bags also have dates on their bags and going back to 1945 (I have a bag that is 'F' so is from 1951. Kellys only have a stamp from 1971 (my BBK has a 'B' in a round circle which makes it 1972).

LV have no date codes further back than 1980

Between us I'm sure we can help you work out the dates of any LV, H or Chanel. For Gucci I have my own methods (much more complicated).

My father died many years ago so I just think of him.

Amazing combo, I bet you look amazing

Are you a fashion historian or something along those lines? The amount of knowledge you have is fascinating !

I have a question for everyone - do you have a bag in your collection that you can imagine wearing and wearing and wearing till it falls to bits? I'm sometimes fickle with bags, and move them on when I get bored, but I've had this goatskin Pandora for about 3 years. I've worn it regularly and in all sorts of weather, slinging it around without babying it, and all it does is get softer. Such an easy bag to live with

I want to say all of them haha but I guess it's hard to predict if my taste will change in the future. I can definitely see myself continuing to love and enjoy my black chanel mini. 3 years of loving it and I still wear it the most! But really, I love every bag in my collection right now and hope to hold on to them forever!
I was driving this week and had to stop short. My new Fendi flew off the passenger seat onto the floor. :annoyed: So I decided to go ahead and buy the hooks someone had mentioned (was it you @ksuromax?) to use to hang my bags from the seat. View attachment 3735359
They should be here on Monday. Now I'm worrying they will put a dent in the leather handles. :-s

I've also seen purse caddies / pouches like this but read mixed reviews on TPF. Some people love them. Some say they are too small. View attachment 3735357
So this made me wonder: what is your solution to keep your bags from taking flight while you're driving.
I have one of those caddies. They really are small! My mini bags fit just fine inside but medium and large bags definitely won't fit. The larger bags are supposed to sit against the caddy, like a safety net, if that makes sense. If you need to brake hard, the larger bags will still fly. Before I got the caddy, I used to sling the crossbody/shoulder strap (if there was one) on the headrest of the passenger seat.

No, it's not
i was trying to re-organize my closet/storage today, piled all bags in front of the closet and my DH was trying to be of help, suggesting the way of re-arranging them, when i declined another (of many) suggestions, he said - if they don't fit in, maybe it's time to get rid of some??
His luck i didn't have anything sharp or heavy at hands!!!!
That's it, none is leaving any time soon :nono: i love them all :hbeat: no matter how often i use them, i am not ready to part with any (apart from those that i put aside earlier, but they are not in the closet anyway)
But good thing is that i don't want any new either... happy as is
Lol at your DH's suggestion. That is wonderful that you are so happy with your collection!
Speaking of reorganizing, I really want to do that as well. Have not gotten around to redoing the closet in the new house. I think I would like a simple cabinet with glass shelves so I wouldn't feel the need to put my bags back in dustbags every time. Would be a pretty sight for me to look at in the closet too :D

I saw those caddy things and they are too small

I recommend these, I've been using them for awhile and they are so handy!

I have it facing the seat so it'll hold my bag and lunch bag safely. One in the backholds the fragile groceries.

Or a baby bag for you, Liz [emoji6]

Thank you, I teach to fashion students at university. The history is the easy part. TPF helps me too, things change so fast.

1987 and the late 1980s was very much the invest in classics era.

Hermes'
Birkin was only a few years old but already a big hit at that time, however they are still stupidly expensive. Hermes novelty bags however were also very popular and very much evoke the obsession with couture which are not so expensive now. see posts 143-6 here https://forum.purseblog.com/threads/vintage-style-bags-pics-only.99980/page-10 . My Escale (like the stock photo, post 147, same page as above) is from around that era too.
These types of bags can still be found for under $1.5K. Look for 'Q' in a circle for 1987.

The Chanel Classic Flap was another 'it' bag and though the style went out of fashion in the late 1990s it came back with an a vengeance and is now iconic. . KL designed the CC Classic lock in the 1980s and it was a whole new wave of logo-mania. Especially popular in Japan. Actually any quilted Chanel shoulder bag with a chain would be perfect. Though still expensive, a vintage one from this time is good value (and many say better quality) than recent ones. The code you will look for will begin with '0'.

LV's Speedys were HUGE too as was anything to do with Audrey Hepburn who first popularised the bag. Vintage Speedys are usually to be found for a reasonably good price. Even the month of manufacture will be shown just look which number follows '87' in the serial so 877XX will mean July 1987. Just add the month to your year. The 2 last characters will refer to which factory is was made. Later in the decade the factory letters go before the date as in XX899.

Gucci was also huge, particularly the signature print. Judith Leiber crystal novelty clutches were all the rage for the evening. Let me know if you want to look for another brand too.

How fun to be teaching at a university! Your classes must be very interesting.

Oh I really have to check these out. Thanks for the reminder about baby bag lol, I had not even thought of the fact that I would need somewhere to hang the bag if I'm driving without DH
