My rule: I never, ever buy bigger or stretchier clothes. My clothes getting snug is a warning system. I can't stand being uncomfortable, so the tightness will make me lose the 5 lbs (or whatever) that crept on.

Also, here's a hint. If you're having cravings, try eating a low carb diet with at least 2 qts of water (preferably a gallon) per day for two weeks. Something like a Paleo diet or South Beach Phase I would do. That will cut sugar / carb cravings allowing you an easier path to getting back to the healthy eating program of your choice. I just stay on a modified Paleo approach so I don't have to diet, count calories or deal with cravings. Before I made the switch, I was always hungry, on some kind of diet and carried extra pounds. It was bad all around.

But back to bags. I carried my grey lamb Chanel and black Proenza Schouler Small Courier the past four days while I was out of town. The grey lamb worked wonderfully for my nicely dressed days, but I really should have taken my black YSL for the active days. The PS was too small for what I needed to do.

Now that I have other bags, I'm less and less enamored of the PS. I like it and plan to keep it. But since I finally learned how to buy appropriately, every new bag I add to my collection is an upgrade (quality, fit and style). So it casts older bags in a different light. I can see the evolution in my approach to bags based on when I purchased them.

Anyone else have that happening where older bags - while well loved - just aren't as much of a fit for you as you're newer bags?
Thanks for the info. This is along the line of what I am trying. I too am slowly upgrading some of my bags. The last couple of days I have been wearing my very sturdy m0851 bag with it's cross body strap. It weight wise is one of my heaviest bags but the weight distribution makes it super comfy. The cross body strap is wide and very soft .

I was trying to plan which bag to get this summer during my trip to France / Italy and am just not coming up with anything. I'm craving anything right now. Same thing when I've glanced at some of my favorite handbag site - nothing is grabbing me.

I think three things are happening. First, I love my collection and filled my gaps. But I don't know if that alone would keep me from eyeballing the "next" bag.

Second, I'm not excited about anything I'm seeing right now. For example, I hate what Dior is doing with their latest collection. So there isn't any new bag that I've been craving.

This all being said, I think the main cause of my contentment has been my 60+ days of not buying. When I stop buying and hunting, the acquisition mania dies down. Buying seems to breed buying and pausing seems to breed pausing. (Anyone else find that to be the case?)

So, I think I'll wait and see if anything super special catches my eye when I get there.

I hope the rest of this week will bring joy to everyone here in one way or another. Yesterday we had two feet of snow and I am so happy we never lost power. I have been not doing well in the diet department. I am saying this out loud so I have no more excuses. I do not need to buy bigger clothes to go with my bags . I need to drop weight. Now back to the program . What bags have you actually been carrying lately.

It's gonna be hot here until the weekend and we have a run scheduled on Sunday. I hope I can make it to the finish line. (Big fat and lazy here. [emoji21])

You can do it. There's no excuses. Just do it. Even a bit is better than nothing and it count, too. Just put down that cookie and you'll feel better. ;)

I've been carrying my Officier City since Monday. I'm loving the navy blue right now. (I think the talk about color we rarely wear trigger this. [emoji5]) I don't know if I'll change bag during the weekend. [emoji4]

Hugs to you vink! I'm sorry to hear you've had emotional health challenges. I just have two weepy days at the start of my cycle so I guess that's really not a big deal. #firstworldproblems

Nah. I'm fine. [emoji4] It happens and I just have to know what I'm doing. I can let myself drawn or just decide to be what I want to be. The brain and whatever chemical or the emotional stage can be what it want to be. I can also choose what I want to be or what I want to do. (You can be grumpy, but don't make it too long. Life is too short and at every corner, there're lots of beautiful places in the world.)

Your diet sounds good. I have a bad clothes shopping habit. I like to wear it loose and if it gets tight, instead of watching myself, I'll just buy something else that fit better. [emoji28] But I'm changing that. I dropped a size last year and it's the best news ever. I'm still on that same size now, but my upper arms are getting smaller based on the fit. My trainer seriously deserve all the credit in the world.

I think the fitting of the bag also based on lifestyle and taste during the time. Over time, those can change, hence a reason we fall in love with a new bag and buy it. If it's not getting better, then you just shouldn't buy. [emoji6]

Yup I do find older bags not working as well so I just gave two, my botkier Stevie satchels and 2 of my 3 carefree bags, to a mom friend who was at my house an hour ago for a playdate for the 3 year olds.
2 out!!
Hhmmmm.... in THIS sense probably yes, the OLDER and SIMPLER bags hardly spark any joy now... i gave away a lot last year and might do more this year as well, but that's from pre-designer and tPF period....

I love the little LV bag. What is that one called? I have been staying out of the LV section.

It's the Pochette Felicie, a wallet on chain.

I experienced fresh snow falling for the first time in my life. It didn't stick cuz it wasn't cold enough, but it certainly was a new thing for me haha.

Though, I would be absolutely frightened to drive in it. I'm amazed you and others in these snowy areas can still live with so much snow.

Just popping in to post my orange and yellow offerings. I'm off to Vegas tomorrow for the Backstreet Boys' concert hehe.

Eggtart, these are grogeous! I hope the concert was a blast!

Popping in to post my orange and yellow bags for this week.

Both are beautiful, but man, that Alma! The color is amazing.

Wow, I didn't realize the Longchamp was that big! It's so chic, and it looks really convenient. Your new purchases are really lovely.

Are you planning on visiting Chicago? It's my favorite city, and the guidebook does a really nice job of covering the best things to do and the best places to eat!

I'm plowing through this year so hard, but I'm refuse to feel sorry. This year so far isn't that kind to me. [emoji21][emoji21][emoji21][emoji21] I'm just too stressed out I want to shout and punch high into the sky.

Anyway, next week is my birthday and I just placed an order on a bag from Massaccesi. It's a tote so it should be useful year-round. I want a serious tote that doesn't look like a bag. Just a leather tote. [emoji4] And then, I'm thinking about my WOC. I remember how I love them as a wallet when DD was a baby. Plus, I still have a Dior promenade pouch (2nd version) I bought a couple years ago in a deep fuchsia color that I haven't used yet. I think I'm getting giddy and excited. I can use this, minus the chain, with my new tote. And they'll all be a crazy colorful family and hopefully will help brighten up my day. I think I'm going crazy coz all the stress and we're approaching 37 degree Celsius today. [emoji38][emoji38][emoji38] Can't help but wonder how hot it'll be in April, but I'm sure I'll have an army of brightly colored bag and accessories to handle that.

I think I'm getting crazy. [emoji13][emoji13][emoji13]
Sorry it's been rough, and I hope the rest of the year goes better for you! I can't wait to see your birthday bag.

I got my two bags from Belgium, and I'm floored by the quality of Cathy's sewing.
This cognac tote stands up on its own and I love the simple style.

I don't know if a close up does justice to her stitching but they are incredibly straight and even and every spot on one side is a complete mirror image of the corresponding other side, you can count stitches and placement and it is precise in a way I have never seen from an etsy bag. Surgeon like precision!View attachment 3633939

This pale lilac tote is the most scrumptious soft leather I could fondle all day.

Both are simple unlined totes that weigh a pound or less. I'm smitten and impressed! The cognac tote was €180 and the painted edges and details are perfect. The lilac tote was €55 which is ridiculous. It's raw edged and simple but the leather alone would cost that. What a deal.
I am ordering a custom designed bag with leather lining for around €285. She is definitely under priced but she is still studying the art of luxury bag making so I guess she's happy just to practice while learning under whomever her teacher is she refers to. After six years she seems to be quite good already but maybe it takes another 6 years to finish whatever program she's in, I have no idea how it works.
Anyway hope you enjoyed this review!
Wow, these really are gorgeous. The workmanship is impeccable.

I have the same rule. I absolutely will not go clothes shopping at all when I am above the weight range I allow myself, even if I need something, because the fit will be wrong when I get back to my desired weight goal. I weigh myself every day, and when I get above ideal, I start dieting to bring my weight back to normal. I'm actually in that boat right now--we've had a lot of social events lately, and not choosing my own meals makes an unfortunate difference on my waistline. :-(

Absolutely. Needs change, of course, but sometimes I find that a bag/dress/pair of shoes I bought for a certain use is replaced by a new option that performs the same function better. I try to cull these pretty regularly to make sure I'm not hanging onto too many closet dinosaurs.

Like you, as I've started buying better quality, some of the bags I used to think were really great no longer seem as nice. However, I have to be careful not to compare apples to oranges--of course different leathers are going to look and wear different.

Not a great quick pic, but you get the idea.
It's a really pretty bag :-)

Good luck on your shopping trip! But yes, I'm the same way.

When I shop a lot, I get used to being in a buying state of mind, and it's really a self-perpetuating cycle. This is especially true for an item that isn't something I bought to fill a closet gap because then I start looking for other items that complement what I just bought. I start out looking for one thing, and I wind up with seven different things on my wishlist.

But when I take a breather and step away, I don't think about it as much. I get used to not buying and just using what I have, so something has to be pretty special to change my mindset at that point.

Congrats on your weight loss!

You're right. Many factors change over time and those really can change how we see our bags.
