Does anyone have a true white (not cream, eggshell, ivory, etc.) handbag?

I have thought about getting one but can't pull the trigger. I don't know if it would look too stark because I don't wear pastels. I wear black, grey, white, brights and jewel tones. And, I don't see a lot of brands doing a lot of white.

So do you have white? Do you think white is a good color to have? Or do you hate white bags?

Sparkletastic I wear a lot of black grey and white with a splash of colour here and there. I bought a white bag and find it looks fab. It's contemporary as I wasn't prepared to pay a fortune for white but I love it. I don't have a photo of it on its own....

I have. I like them and they look really nice and bright. [emoji4] I think it depends on the material. If you're afraid of getting it dirty, look for material that's easy to clean like clothes or simple leather. I have a white linen bag that's very pretty and if it gets dirty, I just toss it in a laundry basket. Also, I have a stark white cavier jumbo. If it gets any stain, I just clean it normally.

I love white bags and think they are absolutely gorgeous. Have been tempted before but the thought of keeping it clean always stops me... maybe one day, and probably not from a premier brand

I just can't see myself carrying a white bag. It feels too 1950s to me. :amuse: But I think they've come back in style again, so I probably ought to reconsider!
I used to have a cream/eggshell bag, but I just rehomed it last month because I found I never carried it. I'm not sure if it was the style (dome) or the color, but I just found that I never reached for it. So I can't imagine that I would ever replace even that color, let alone stark white. I wear so much black, or (when I'm feeling saucy) navy, that light-colored bags feel too contrast-y too my eye. I don't even have a pink bag any more... I sold my pink Mulberry Willow last spring. I guess as time goes by, I'm realizing that neutral bags just feel more comfortable to me.
Except for red, of course, but I kind of think of red as a neutral for some reason! (But I already have 2 red bags, so I can happily shop my closet to meet that need!)

I've done it - 7 bags listed on ebay! They are at good prices and I know it'll be months before they sell (especially LV and Marc Jacobs). The only one I'm holding onto right now is the Chanel and looking at consignment. :yahoo:
CONGRATS!!! Way to go!!!!

You've inspired me. I have a bunch of bags to list. I'll make a promise to list 7 this week like you. <eek!>

Thanks for all the feedback on white bags. I had a white bag and rarely wore it but I think it's because I didn't like the actual bag that much.

Liz, BigCherry & vink - maybe the way to go is as you said - something much less expensive so I don't worry about it.

Vink - you don't worry about color transfer on your Chanel?

At the beginning of 2016 we talked a bit about Marie Kondo's philosophy to only keep what brings joy. So with all of us trying to shop our closets and eliminate / avoid buying the handbags that don't truly work for us in 2017, I thought I'd bring her philosophy to the forefront again.

I'm jumping in.:panic: My bags & SLG's are already stripped to the bone so I needed to look at other areas. I took a deep breath, girded my loins and PURGED!

 <yikes!>

My results:
• Costume jewelry - I donated all but 6 statement items and a faux pearl set (I don't like pearls but the look works for some outfits)
• Fine Jewelry - I gave several items I got in my 20's to DD. She said it was Christmas part 2.
• Furs - Selling 3 of 6. :crybaby:I need Valium. LOL! But, I just don't wear those 3. I can just buy the one additional fur and fur trimmed cape I do want and call it a day.
• Scarves - all donated. I hate scarves. I just felt I "should" have them. I may add a special Chanel or Hermes scarf one day.
• Sunglasses - Selling 3 of 10 pair.
• Purse charms - All donated. They aren't worth the effort to sell and as much as I'm a big kid, I hate junk / toys on my bags. I tried to pawn them off on DD and she looked at me like I was nuts.
• Coats - all ok as I purged them last year.
• Misc - I donated extra gloves, umbrellas, hats, etc. If I hadn't used it in the last 12 months it was out.

So that's my initial Kondo purge. I feel better already! :yahoo: Now I need to do my clothes (Stylebook will help) and shoes (have to wait til my foot is healed)

Anyone else up to the challenge?

I love kondo's ideas but I want to read her next book now that she's a mom! So much was just not addressing big family issues like the drama with matching up 6 different sizes of socks in my laundry room. Yet we can't purge all the socks, we need them. Sigh.

I'm joining those of you on Ban Island for 2017... either no bags at all, or perhaps one if LV comes out with something VERY SPECIAL in the fall. But...
- only if I've divested myself of 3 or 4 bags during the year,
- and if I've been good about rotating through my collection,
- and if this mythical (nonexistent?) VERY SPECIAL bag fills a "hole" in my collection, the way my new Montaigne BB did this past fall.

I realize that this sounds like a lot of hedging, but I don't want to leave myself on Ban Island without the possibility of a little life raft! :giggle:
these are very good criteria you've given yourself - it helps to know what you're willing, or have to do, if you really want to get a bag.. I am on a ban this year, but i also have some of these criteria that will allow me to get a bag, but that said, i don't think i'll be able to meet those criteria of mine to allow me a bag this year lol.. so in a way I'm safe, but if magically it happens, then i'll be happy too!

@HopelessBagGirl @bakeacookie @Mimmy @ElainePG @starbunny I think I need more rooms for you ladies haha, but the more the merrier! I know that we can do this! @Sparkletastic Heck YES that is David Beckham. I have him on loan for the year and i've also added Keanu Reeves (yes. I love him lol.. despite his acting...) and Norman Reedus ('cuz us and our bags all need to be safe and there's no one else better who can protect us!)

Yes! I love the Damier Azur graffiti-looking neverfull and the Valentine's Day collection looks AMAZING!!

Forgot to quote the post on what bag we'd get rid of but just can't, and mine would definitely be my leopard speedy. I've had it for a few years now and it got a good amount of use in Colorado (where it's sunny basically all the time lol). Now, DH and I are in Seattle which is a huge change and I think a big part of the reason why my LV canvas bags get used constantly since I don't stress about them getting wet. The leopard speedy is made of "jacquard textile" and is soft like plush carpet and I have no idea how it would be in the rain, so it just sits at home looking pretty. Definitely don't have the heart to get rid of it yet, so it might just be one of those trophy pieces.

Also, I bought one of my unicorn bags for myself for Christmas. I had one a LONG time ago and sold it and have been kicking myself ever since. It's the Treesje Magnolia in Oceano. I don't even know if Treesje is around anymore, but that bag is so adorable to me and will definitely get use (even in the rain!). I've had an ebay alert set up for this bag for more than a couple of years, so it does feel good to finally get it again.
I'm glad that you were able to find your bag again!!!

Not total ban, but I need to slow down. I have identified 2 NEED bags - a black and a red. The black should be a structured satchel with long strap option. Something like the Alexander McQueen small Padlock bag that I already have in Birch color. That style really works well for me.

The red should also be a structured satchel/top handle that could go from day to night/special events.
I think knowing what you're looking for in the specific bags is a large part of staying focused. hope you're able to find them!

The Worst Thing about staying strong through the sales season is gritting my teeth and watching things I like fall out of stock
ya.. i feel you... i've blown my 2016 wardrobe budget too, so pretty torturous..

My plan for 2017 is no new bags - I've never been more committed than I am today! Every year I make a post in this thread, read a lot of lovely comments for inspiration, live through others reveals and take short breaks from the forum itself to stop the impulse need to buy a new bag.

I've had so much enjoyment over the years with bags: buying/selling circle for leather bags <$300 which was fun to experiment different styles, and selling all my middle range Oroton and Marc by Marc Jacobs to premier designer. However I've found that I'm not happy buying premier designer bags anymore - gone is the thrill of the hunt and the joy of using the bag - because all I can think of is the cost I spent on each bag. I'm in a great financial position, but when I combine the nasty comments I receive about my bags and the fact I bought over my mental thresh hold of what I'm comfortable with I have decided to sell what I can and stop buying.

My Collection
  • Chanel: Classic Flap Jumbo, GST, Kelly Jumbo
  • Prada: BN1786, Prada BN2274
  • Louis Vuitton Canvas: DE Neverfull MM, DE Speedy B 30, DE Favorite MM, Monogram Pallas MM
  • Louis Vuitton Leather: Epi Alma PM, Empreinte Speedy B 30
  • Michael Michael Kors: Large Kirby
  • Oroton: Entourage Tote E/W

To Sell in 2017
  • Marc Jacobs Large Single (too small for my needs)
  • Marc Jacobs Single (too small for my needs, never used)
  • Michael Michael Kors Medium Kirby (never used, too small, don't buy online unless seen in person)
  • Chanel Kelly Jumbo (never used, too afraid to use because it's pink)
  • Louis Vuitton Epi Neverfull MM (never used, too big, stupid purchase because I panicked that my credit was expiring)
  • Louis Vuitton Vernis Alma PM (never used, felt it was too flashy but will always love the colour Pomme D'Amour)

I've done it - 7 bags listed on ebay! They are at good prices and I know it'll be months before they sell (especially LV and Marc Jacobs). The only one I'm holding onto right now is the Chanel and looking at consignment. :yahoo:
we are SO here for you to help you achieve your goal. Way to go for already listing the bags!!! it's a great start and we're not even officially into 2017 - way to go!!

l went through a lot of other categories in 2016 as well and tried to keep things to a bare minimum. Most are stripped to the most necessary; one category i find touch is scarves - we have four seasons so most are applicable either to keep warm or in the office. People also like to gift scarves to me and very few have hit the mark, but I feel bad for letting go? I know I shouldn't, but still... work in progress

I think that's in keeping with the philosophy. No one (well maybe a very few people) find joy in mops or nail clippers or socks. Those are functional. You need socks. So you cut down to the truly functional but don't keep the unnecessary extras. Like "maybe one day I'll need nail clippers and 5XL socks for elephants".
Then for the not necessary (anything beyond one purse, a couple of tops, one chair, etc.) you purge what doesn't give joy.

We're all work in progress. Notice that I didn't mention my books. :whut:
