Thanks for asking ... you too Bake. The bag Is about 16” long ... big for me. The ladies in my family presented it to me at the reunion in August. They know my “hobby” and wanted me to have the only bag remaining of their Nonni’s special bags from the leather school in the Basilica di Santa Croce (I checked the text from my nieces as to where it comes from.) There’s a shop called Modern Leather here in New York that does really good work in relining and other repairs. BV sends people there, I believe.

It was hard to get a pic of this bag; the sides are suede and it seems to eat the light up. It’s also well worn so I’ll see what Modern Leather can do with that. I had to lighten the first one a lot so it’s a little blurry. Here it is ...

What a beautiful bag! And how special that you have such a great story behind it. It actually doesn’t look that big in your mod shot. Keep us posted on how Modern Leather does with it —I’m always interested in before-and-after shots!

And I’m off to my ladies’ night Christmas edition. I have started a new tradition of hosting a pot luck poolside ladies evening with spa services every couple of months and today is the second one. There should be two dozen of us and I cannot wait to get my nails done and a massage, and swim in a heated indoor pool and take sauna, with most of my best friends around me and a ton of new acquaintances and casual friends. I hope it’s fun! Last time in October it was a bit stressful because I rented the venue and it was a lot of work getting the logistics together. This time my friend is letting me use her huuuuge home, and the logistics were a lot easier to recreate after having a template already hammered out in early autumn. It was a ton easier to get people to commit to being there and their participation efforts this time for some reason, I guess because the early autumn party was so fun, that people were motivated to participate.

Social engineering is hard work! I have my 4 Hendricks G&Ts premade and in portable containers for my evening ‘party’ so I know I will be in fits of giggles in a few hours. To celebrate a hard semester completed with flying colors (ended totally yesterday)!

Hope you have a great time!

So, I am off to BV today to see the Chain Tote again ... I went back a few days ago to try my stuff in it and everything fits perfectly. They are getting in a gray color so I can compare to the black. Of course, now that the process has gone this far, I find myself balking a bit. Anyone else do this? Find a great bag and then question if it’s worth the money and if you’ll still love it in a month or a year? How do you know for sure?

Sparks your analysis is so clear and detailed and shows you know what you want and don’t want.

My advice would be to just go with the flow and follow this initial spreadsheet you’ve prepared.

As the year progresses wants/needs may change so you will easily be able to adjust accordingly. [emoji106]

I have my wishlist down but i’m planning to see if i can push myself to wait till mid-year before i make a purchase.
I want to really try and break my bags in and use them well. They all still look so new, i feel like I still haven’t gotten enough use out of them.

My one desperate need is a black work tote; all other items I don’t need desperately so we’ll see
Thanks for the encouragement! And, thanks to all the ladies on this thread (past and current) who have helped me go from buying recklessly to being more planful. I think the positive peer pressure here to not buy indiscriminately is so helpful!

The infamous black totes. You'd think these would be easier to find. I'll send an offering to the purse gods on your behalf when I do my own need-a-tote sacrifice. LOL!

I came sooooo close to buying an almost tote yesterday. The style, size, functionality and PRICE were perfect. The issue was the material - iridescent goatskin. It looks a little like suede from what I read on TPF. I don't think that will work for me. I want something a little sleeker. But gosh. It is soooooo close to what I want that it's hard not to pretend to myself that it's what I want.
Spark what does your red trussardi look like?
This is my Trussardi mini IMG_0062.JPG
I want one of these two in the mini (the blue is shown in medium). If I get the blue it could replace the blue Kate Spade Mini A that I sold. And, as we talked about a few months ago, I don't typically like bags in shades of brown but this caramel appeals to me. I could see styling it in a similar fashion to the last photo with some cute caramel ankle boots. (That shirt is fierce! Where does one go in that shirt? I'm thinking not the grocery store. LOL!)IMG_2984.JPGIMG_2987.JPGIMG_2986.JPG

I'm in my 3 week window for bag purchases and, of course, I see bags I want. But, I'm reminding myself I don't neeeeeeeeed them.

Something hit me between the eyes recently. I love my Chanel m/l pearly grey flap. I wore this bag a LOT in the 2 years after I bought it and it was my favorite bag in my collection.

Then this summer I bought my (semi) HG - the silver Diorama - not realizing the two bags have very similar uses in my closet. I have been wearing the Diorama every chance I get. So much so, that I've all but forgotten the Chanel. I didn't "remember" it until I was talking about bags on a different thread.

How can this happen??? A favorite bag gets forgotten??? It's all about duplicate uses.

This is a wake up call. :noggin: I'm at the tipping point of my collection where if I'm not careful, just about any bag I buy will squeeze out usages from something I love. :whut: So I'm proceeding with much caution.

What’s your hesitation beyond it being worth the money?
Do you feel like you’re settling?

Lol, I definitely need that offering to the purse gods. I never knew hunting the perfect black tote could be so tedious

Yep, i think when its time to decisively pull the trigger the doubts kick in; are you wasting too much on just a bag versus something ‘more important’? I console myself with the fact that it can be sold or exchanged (if the window is still open) if it doesn’t work out.

Keep us updated on the chain tote though. Its a potential bag on my hunt for a black tote [emoji4]

Omg!! I almost kept the hobo version of that!

It was sooo gorgeous in this beige color, but it had a weird smell so I couldn’t keep it. It was such a deal from the rack too and the bow! The bow is so adorable.

I see this coordinating well with your scarves, much better than a black one.
Yes, it doesn't match, but it does coordinate. DH was definitely right... he has a good eye for things like that! Which is interesting, because he's color blind. He sees color (not all colors, some of them), but he kind of sees it differently. He knew that this was a raspberry bag, though, and that it would be better than a black one.

I consider this idea often. There are only so many days in a year to use what we’ve already invested in, whether that investment is monetary, emotional, aesthetic or something else, so whatever we add has to interfere with what we’ve already chosen. Did anyone learn the concept of opportunity costs in economics? I’d hate to have to explain it, but this seems similar. If the goal is to be a true collector, such as to acquire all or most LV’s in canvas patterns, then additions can build that collection, and adding the same type of bag supports the goal. But if the goal is different ... if it is to USE the bags, then any addition will have a negative impact ... bringing in a new bag will have a definite cost to the remainder of the “collection.”

Personally, I experience a fair amount of stress at not using my bags. While buying a bag gives me a quick happy jolt, it will also increase my stress as the jolt goes away. So I too have to be very careful what comes in from here on. I’m not at all sure how to proceed in 2018. Pondering...

TGIF.

I finally made it back to work after a sick day and haven’t bothered changed any charms or SLGs.

Any weekend plans?
Hoping to change into a different bag, hoping to finalize the car, hoping to finalize the fitting for my dress for my friend’s wedding, and to get some yummy ramen to fend off this pesky cold.
I am supposed to be showing at an indoor arts and crafts thing but they are now talking snow. Ugh!
