So, I am off to BV today to see the Chain Tote again ... I went back a few days ago to try my stuff in it and everything fits perfectly. They are getting in a gray color so I can compare to the black. Of course, now that the process has gone this far, I find myself balking a bit. Anyone else do this? Find a great bag and then question if it’s worth the money and if you’ll still love it in a month or a year? How do you know for sure?
Yep! This happens to me. Especially when I'm purchasing full price.

How I know for sure is if it 1)functions exactly as I need 2) is visually a bag a love 3) is a brand I like to carry and 4) gives me unique uses and doesn't cannabalize.

If it's an almost factors 1-3, I'll more than likely have regrets later. If it doesn't do #4 I will either carry it or the bag I already own. Rarely does it just slide comfortably into my collection.
I consider this idea often. There are only so many days in a year to use what we’ve already invested in, whether that investment is monetary, emotional, aesthetic or something else, so whatever we add has to interfere with what we’ve already chosen. Did anyone learn the concept of opportunity costs in economics? I’d hate to have to explain it, but this seems similar. If the goal is to be a true collector, such as to acquire all or most LV’s in canvas patterns, then additions can build that collection, and adding the same type of bag supports the goal. But if the goal is different ... if it is to USE the bags, then any addition will have a negative impact ... bringing in a new bag will have a definite cost to the remainder of the “collection.”

Personally, I experience a fair amount of stress at not using my bags. While buying a bag gives me a quick happy jolt, it will also increase my stress as the jolt goes away. So I too have to be very careful what comes in from here on. I’m not at all sure how to proceed in 2018. Pondering...
Exactly!!! There are only so many days. If I have "too many", some are going to go unworn / rarely worn.

And, you make the perfect point. If someone is truly collecting, this isn't a big deal. But for others like you and me who don't like the idea / feeling of bags sitting unused, we have to carefully weigh the impact of a new bag.

The smallest bag in my collection is the Jaspal.

That’s the comparison with 227 reissue. I skimp on getting the LV version and I’m happy I did. No offense coz the LV is gorgeous and I still love to look at them, but the capacity is too small. I will never use it enough to feel justified. This fits the bill for me. [emoji4]

The biggest one is the teal Regalo Tokyo weekender which I got during my honeymoon. The leather is so yummy, but it’s getting heavy. I keep it though because I love it, but I rarely use it now. Even thought of retiring it from the rotation because of the weight, but the leather and sentimental feeling always get me. I don’t have a clear picture of it saved in my mobile.

That’s sooo cute!!

Is the LV version the Petite Malle? I’m tempted for it but even the “bigger” version is still kinda small lol.

I’m tempted for an Aspinal of London version.

Oh man. I’m between collecting and wanting to use the bags. Lol. Can’t I do both? [emoji23]

Very good point on the stress of not using the bags. There were points in the year where I got stressed on the amount of stuff I had that wasn’t getting used. I sold or gave away the stuff that I was having trouble using, and I feel better now, despite the quantity I still own.

What’s your hesitation beyond it being worth the money?
Do you feel like you’re settling?

Well, I did buy the bag today so clearly whatever issues I had, they weren’t big enough to stop me!

Seriously, though, I usually balk before any big purchase. Or big decision, even if it doesn’t involve money. I just doubt myself and my ability to make the “right” decision. It happens all the time, to be honest.

Also, I think there is something about this particular bag that made me doubt myself. It is literally too perfect. It ticks all the boxes of what I am looking for, and it’s a legitimate gap in my collection (I don’t, or didn’t, have a high-end tote bag that fits what I need and fits comfortably over my shoulder). I’ve looked for a bag that fit those specs for so long I literally couldn’t believe it when I found it. And for the premier price, I wanted to be sure I wasn’t fooling myself.

Pics please!

Ah, it’s the “too good to be true!” feeling!

I think you made a good decision, and that this was the bag you’re looking for?

You shouldn’t doubt yourself! I’m sure you’ve made the right big decisions in life and in handbags. [emoji4]

Yep, i think when its time to decisively pull the trigger the doubts kick in; are you wasting too much on just a bag versus something ‘more important’? I console myself with the fact that it can be sold or exchanged (if the window is still open) if it doesn’t work out.

Keep us updated on the chain tote though. Its a potential bag on my hunt for a black tote [emoji4]

My bags and “fun stuff” come out of a special allotment of funds, so it’s not a question of whether the money should have gone to something “more important” (for example, charitable giving is decided by DH and I together and a different area of budget, so to speak), but my “bag fund” is finite so once the money is gone, it’s gone. So buying a particular bag may mean not having the money to buy a different one later.

Anyway, I did buy the tote today  and will try to post pics tomorrow. I think it was the right decision and plan to use the bag to death :p, but if I change my mind (or if DH absolutely hates it), I have 14 days to exchange.

This really resonates with me. I am definitely NOT a collector — I want to use all my bags, so unused ones cause me stress. BUT, I also run up against another economic theory, learned from DH: Sunk costs are irrelevant. I have trouble selling bags I’m not using if I know I’m going to take a huge loss. It shouldn’t matter, since getting any money should be better than having an expensive item sitting in my closet. There are a couple of bags I would have sold long ago if I had been able to get more money for them, but the loss was too great so I hung on to them, promised to use them more, but... well, they still sit. There are a couple of bags that are what I’ll call “special use” bags, and knowing that, it’s OK for them to hang out in my closet and only be used a couple of times a year. But the bags I thought would be everyday bags and didn’t work out that way? That’s I can’t recoup my losses on? Those, I struggle with.

As usual, Sparkle, you list things out in a perfectly organized way! I wish I had had your list at the BV boutique today! But to answer your questions about this particular tote:

1) From what I could tell in the store, putting my things in the bag, it functions perfectly.
2) Visually, I like it a lot. I like that it’s not too big and the chains make it a little edgy. Do I love it, like heart pitted-patter love. No. Usually, I only have that reaction to bags that are totally impractical! :p
3) Is it a brand I love to carry? Not sure yet as it’s my first BV bag. But it feels good, both luxe and comfy. The jury will be out for a while until I use it more.
4) Unique uses: sort of. I have bags that can function similarly, but not as well (the comfy shoulder drop is an issue with some of my other bags). If this one continues to work, I’ll consider selling the other ones.

Twins with you on the black 227 Reissue. I love Reissues. Sigh!
