Last time I got caught in heavy rain I had my LV totally. It held up well but I don’t want to do that again.

I’d use my DE Speedy if I wasn’t using the LCs for rain. I’ve been caught in downpours with my Alma, the Speedy, my Neverfull. They survived, but the open top Neverfull was the hardest to use in the rain, but I didn’t expect a downpour that day.

I don’t have a photo of my teal one but here is the new-to-me rose gold Cupid that I’ve been carrying a lot. The two that are shipping soon are in forest green and iris pink. I really love the design of this bag because I can predominately carry it as a hand-carry bag, which I prefer, and then sling it on my shoulders when I board the bus or crossbody if i’m carrying my kid.View attachment 3900859

The type of leather matters but I think all Cupids will soften over time with use, it’s inherently the style. So maybe it was the right decision for you to sell it. That said, if you had a new one and took care of it, it will likely keep its structure quite a while.

The colors you’re getting all sound pretty!

For those of you who live where you get severe wet or snowy weather what bag do you use on those days? I use my Mz Wallace but I am curious to see what else is good for this besides that and Longchamp pliage.
When not working, I tend to use the very bags I am discontent with now because of material - the 2 saffy Pradas, red caviar Chanel and black patent Chanel. Which is why I'm having heartburn. But, as I mentioned, for whatever reason, in this last year I didn't wear the Pradas as much.

When working, I have been using my black leather Max Mara Whitney a LOT. That thing is indestructible. Also my Knomo laptop bag. When I can get away with a little style, I wear my black saffy Prada and one of the above mentioned Chanels.

Even having lived in ridiculously snowy, icy, slushy weather I've never felt the need to switch out of some form of leather. Caviar, patent, saffiano are wipe and wear materials. And sturdy pebbled or saddle leather tends to function that way as well. I don't commute on foot or via public transit so perhaps that's why. Neither I nor my bags ever have the occasion to be drenched.

Ah! Makes sense. I can't recall which of your bags went out. Were they recent acquisitions?

We can ban together. As I mentioned, I need to figure out what I'd need to add next. And, I don't want to spend a lot on bags next year.
I hadn't heard of the Cupid so I googled. I love that bag! I saw a burgundy one in google images that's really cute. What colors do you have?

I don't know that I have any one bag that's perfect for my lifestyle. Different ones work for diffeeent things. But, it would be nice to know and have my singularly perfect bag. I need to consider what that would be. Hmmmm...

I’ve pretty much given up on the idea of a perfect bag. The closest I can get is a bag that is perfect for a certain situation, and those bags vary widely, from a large Longchamp Le Pliage to go the animal shelter to Chanel for a cocktail party. The illusion of the bag that is perfect in all ways for every situation has probably cost me more money in bag mistakes than I want to know! The closest I’ve gotten to a perfect bag is my LV Empreinte Speedy, which can be dressed up or down, has a variety of carry options, and is pretty durable and has easy access. But the Empreinte leather is more obvious than I sometimes want, and then sometimes I just want a change. Or need to carry more. Plus it won’t fit a water bottle without warping the bag. So, no one perfect bag for me, at least until some designer invents a magical Hermione bag, and even then, I’ll need a variety of color options!

Usually Longchamp le Pliage, or le Pliage Neo. Also, my one LV canvas bag, a PM Totally in DE. If I want to carry a leather bag, I think of two: the first is an old Anya Hindmarch Ebury, which is just like a Prada double zip but in goatskin instead of Saffiano leather. Goat is incredibly durable and just wipes down with really no bad side effects. The second bag is my vintage Hermes Kelly in Barenia leather. I haven’t worn it in snow, but it’s gotten very wet with rain. After it dries it looks like nothing ever happened. I suspect all saddle leathers will work that way — if I had kept my old Coach classics, I think they’d behave the same way in rain or snow.

Come to think of it, I’ve also had Chanel Reissues get wet (accidentally) in the rain, with no bad effects. Just wiped them down and they were fine. Same with my Empreinte Speedy. I really think most leather can take some rain and snow, as long as you dry it off once you get inside!

Going on a ban together will be nice! My initial target is 3 months. Hopefully that will be extended. But truth is, I'm dreading the Christmas/after Christmas sales!

1 bag that I gave away was the MbMJ nylon bag I bought for my Japan trip early this year. I realized that I prefer the Longchamp Neo with long strap which serves the same purpose. The other is the Tod's black bag that I bought for documents. When I got the Fossil bag I didn't need the Tod's bag anymore. Then finally a RM full size MAB that was already too big for me.

Speaking of RM Cupid, I had a full size one before and I liked it structured. I got it brand new so no problem with structure though I oftend wondered if it would soften with wear. I sold it during my big bag purge. I've not regretted the sale but it's probably one of the RM bags I would consider having again. It was in a beautiful Elephant Grey color.

I remember RM’s Elephant gray color. Never owned it, but it was so pretty!

Isn't LV canvas pretty much weather proof?

I used an LV Westminster GM Damier ebene in all weather as a work bag. It held up beautifully. It sometimes turns out that I’m on foot in rain and snow for blocks and blocks so I need a bag that’s waterproof and tight.

I sold the Westminster while the pricing was still good, only because my work circumstances had changed and I didn’t need a 17” bag anymore. I thought I would replace it with the LV Siena that I’ve talked about, but I haven’t been able to pull the trigger yet. I also had my black Furla tote for rain and snow and I gave that one away because I just plain didn’t like it. So now I have only LP’s and I don’t think I’m satisfied with those as my only a winter/bad weather choices.

All of which is to say, it’s a safe bet to keep your rainy day Prada bags until you fully replace them, unless you love or are satisfied with your back-ups.

I have to be out in rain and snow for a few minutes most days. So I dont’ think about special bags for weather. If it’s pouring the rain I usually use a bag with a zippered closure though for fear of my ipad getting wet. But I just rush indoors from my car in a minute or less so it’s not a long time. I definitely wouldn’t wear a premier leather bag during those times but most of mine are in lamb, bubbled lamb, croc, or an LV that is strictly summer. So, it’s more that they are in more delicate materials than about the premier-ness. My Massaccesi deep blue africa midi angel that I’m bag twins with soramillay would be a good weather bag, because that leather is so hard wearing and seems indestructible. I have a champagne pebbled leather zip top tote (massaccesi modena) that I also feel confident about wearing no matter the weather.
I have a ju-ju-be nylon machine washable bag that’s teflon coated that I’m really ridiculously excited about getting, that would be an ideal bag for throwing around in the slush! IMG_1512668080.886391.jpg

So true!

I love the look of the Pliage but the flap drives me bonkers when I am in a hurry.

I think it is fun to see all the different choices there are for bad weather bags. The polka dots are adorable.
