OOTD with Dora.

My wardrobe has changed drastically in the last two years. I got rid of a lot of clothes that I wore in my 30s. My clothes are a little more conservative, although I do have some short (though not too short) dresses/skirts because my legs don’t look bad yet, at my age.

I put a lot more thought into what clothes I buy because I have to be more sensitive to what will look appropriate for my age. I also must consider the flaws that creep up on women age 40+ and how to disguise them.

That’s life.

I love your Dora! [emoji7]

Funny how moving can change your resolve. I also moved recently and feel the goal is doable, but only after unpacking and organizing all of my bags. My first thought after seeing all of them laid out was “no more!”, and it’s been fairly easy to say no to sales thus far.

@Hobbsy, maybe you and I can team up next year and be the “OBG”, the “One Bag Girls”, lol. :)
Love it!!

My lovely red cherry Longchamp Cuir (small) today with white blouse, grey cropped pants and light grey flats. Friday is casual wear day.

This red bag looks perfect popping against your white blouse, msd! Such a cheerful look. This, to my eye, is the exact shade of red to wear with neutral clothing like white, black, grey, navy, and so on.
Enjoy your weekend! :ghi5:

I think that’s exactly right, I just want to make sure I haven’t ended up in a decades long rut and forgot to update my look as my life stages tick by. I don’t think most women look best wearing at 40 what they did in their twenties, so I want to likewise evolve my fashion choices.
I don’t however plan to buy any clothes in the coming year, so it is what it is for now. Maybe in 2019 as my fortieth birthday approaches, if some new opportunity after this masters program is done presents itself, I can buy some new clothes that fits with that new role, and in honor of the milestone birthday. But I have almost 2 years until that, so....I’ll just start to think about that now and maybe collect some ideas from you stylish ladis in the meantime.

I decided to chuck the scarf, because it is super annoying to wear.
I understand what you are saying. I don’t wear skin tight leather dresses anymore but I will always wear jeans.

My weekend plans and bag
And what is yours?
We're going to the ballet tomorrow afternoon! Haven't decided which bag to carry (though I have picked the H scarf, since it has dancers on it, LOL) but I know it will be one of my mini bags.

The colors on this scarf seem to want an orange, red, or green bag, but I haven't got one. So I will probably carry my black BV pillow bag, which is always perfect. This time of the year, I wish I owned the pillow bag in silver, but I already have too many mini bags plus it seems a bit OTT to have a bag just to carry a few times in December!

Ooh! Which ballet?

To me, the key to "appropriate" is other things that have zero to do with age

- do the clothes fit properly (no tugging, no sagging)
- do they flatter the person's shape (enhancing the "good" parts and minimizing the "not so good" parts)
- is the outfit, as a whole, on trend (some could wear every stitch original from the 40's and put it together with style, others can wear something from last year and it can look dated)
- does the outfit showcase the wearer's personality (when an outfit is true to someone, they just shine; when it's not, they look like they're in a costume.)
This. Especially the last one. Very well said, spark!

Ooh! Which ballet?
It's the Smuin company, which is based in San Francisco, and then they travel in the bay area so they come down here 3 times a year. We have a subscription. In December they always call it "The Christmas Ballet" but it not Nutcracker. They are a modern dance company but they do a mix of classical, jazz, contemporary, and cutting-edge. The Christmas one is always a lot of fun because some of their numbers are choreographed to popular (like, from the 1940s & 50s) Christmas melodies, while others are choreographed to classical music more religious themes.
We're taking the daughter of family friends. She's ten, and really enjoys dance, so it's a treat for her.
