Speaking of my peacock dressing, here’s me in a very boho scarf with beads and embroidered flowers (some pink) on top of a cashmere kimono wrap sweater that is the exact shade as my plum pebbled midi selene, so I’ll wear them together with jeans today and my wild hippie scarf. Lighting is crap because it’s still pitch dark out at 8am.

Perhaps if someone was wearing tight, short, going to the club outfits all the time in their 20's, they should abandon that look by their 40's. But, other than that, I think someone can wear whatever they want at whatever age.I think that’s exactly right, I just want to make sure I haven’t ended up in a decades long rut and forgot to update my look as my life stages tick by. I don’t think most women look best wearing at 40 what they did in their twenties, so I want to likewise evolve my fashion choices.
I don’t however plan to buy any clothes in the coming year, so it is what it is for now. Maybe in 2019 as my fortieth birthday approaches, if some new opportunity after this masters program is done presents itself, I can buy some new clothes that fits with that new role, and in honor of the milestone birthday. But I have almost 2 years until that, so....I’ll just start to think about that now and maybe collect some ideas from you stylish ladis in the meantime.
I decided to chuck the scarf, because it is super annoying to wear.
Agree on the impact of a move. I've moved 5 times in the last 8 years and have purged items each time. This last move really made me committed to no extra stuff of any kind. I'm just sick of lugging anything that doesn't regularly see the light of day.Funny how moving can change your resolve. I also moved recently and feel the goal is doable, but only after unpacking and organizing all of my bags. My first thought after seeing all of them laid out was “no more!”, and it’s been fairly easy to say no to sales thus far.
@Hobbsy, maybe you and I can team up next year and be the “OBG”, the “One Bag Girls”, lol.![]()
I love this bag! I'm headed to the Bahamas today for my bday trip and packed 4 of my favorite bags for the 10 days. Whoop! My weekend plans and bag

OK. Let me amend my earlier comment on appropriate. Here’s my hippie scarf with a fleece vest. I live amid an urban college campus where pajama bottoms are a look and totes and backpacks are the bags of choice so I’m never inhibited from wearing this ... or anything for that matter,

Wearing PJ's, houseshoes, slippers, etc. in public is SO not appropriate. Whenever I see someone dressed in night wear all I can think is "Did they shower before they left the house?????"![]()
How fun!
I think this is the weekend we actually step forward and start negotiating cars. [emoji31]
And an LV Christmas thing. [emoji4]
Way to go!November stats:
Bags: 0 in, 1 out.
SLGs: 0 in, 0 out.
Year to date:
Bags: 5 in, 4 out
SLGs: 4 in, 2 out (although one was a gift from DH — do gifts count, or only purchases?)
Thanks bakeacookie! Truthfully, it didn’t feel like a hardship letting these items go. I loved them and enjoyed them while I owned them and now they get to make someone else happy. I love the items that have joined my bag and SLG wardrobe!Wow! In = out!
You’ve got a great sense of style. If it makes you feel happy then wear it regardless of your age. If you’re second guessing a particular piece, explore that feeling further and find out why, then make a decision to keep it or toss it.You guys think I should toss the scarf into the ‘offer to my daughters one day’ pile because it looks just a bit OTT for a woman my age to wear it? Can I still wear it until I turn 40 and not look ridiculous? What do you all think? I get that it’s a statement piece, and I am kind of a statement gal, but I also don’t want to look like I haven’t updated my look since my twenties either. Which is actually kind of the case, much of my stuff I have collected around the time I turned 30 and a bit after, and I haven’t changed my style much during my thirties. Too busy with having #3 and #4 to really consider a total style overhaul, so maybe I need to slowly start thinking about that as I’m 2 years away from the big 4-0 now and somehow that seems like an age where you are entering grownup-proper-territory and should settle into a more timeless, elegant wardrobe..... or then I just need to face the fact that I’m not really a timeless, elegant woman. I’m the daughter of a total hippie and colorful knitted colorways are always going to capture my heart and just go with it? My mom still has the pale flowing hair down her back and style she wore in her youth in general, and it looks right on her, although it’s more silver than pale blonde as it was in her youth.
I think if I could pull off my grandmother’s style at any point in her adult life I would look super chic nowadays, as style seems to come back after skipping a generation (no one wants to adopt their parents’ style except me it seems) she was one of those scarlet O’Hara type southern bombshells who always wore a hat pinned just so to her hair, 18” waist cinched probably with some hideous corset or some such nonsense, and had lipstick on into her 90s. A real lady. I wish I could kind of inherit some of that from her, but after 15 years of primarily being a SAHM I am all about the comfort and casual style. on top of that the country I live in is SUPER casual, no one dresses up ever. I cannot remember the last time I saw a woman walking in heels. MAYBE 3” chunky heeled boots, and even then you know right away the woman is not a native, but an Eastern European or Russian transplant. I try to blend in around here so I pretty much keep it casual.
Thanks dcooney4, greatly appreciated.Great Stats!
Great advice and purging during moves. I am curious, which bags are you taking on your trip? We’re heading to the Bahamas in three weeks. Have a fantastic bday and bday trip Sparkletastic!Perhaps if someone was wearing tight, short, going to the club outfits all the time in their 20's, they should abandon that look by their 40's. To me, the key to "appropriate" is other things that have zero to do with age
- do the clothes fit properly (no tugging, no sagging)
- do they flatter the person's shape (enhancing the "good" parts and minimizing the "not so good" parts)
- is the outfit, as a whole, on trend (some could wear every stitch original from the 40's and put it together with style, others can wear something from last year and it can look dated)
- does the outfit showcase the wearer's personality (when an outfit is true to someone, they just shine; when it's not, they look like they're in a costume.)

Hi essiedub, here are the pics I promised. I hope it helps!Yes I am looking for the perfect tote (as is sparkletastic and catsinthebag) Ooh I did look at this Celine online. I have not seen it in person. Looks like the leather is supple. I like the various ways it could be tied, untied etc. I’m not sure if I should go with a value priced option (like everlane or Cuyana) or go back to a canvas tote because they are so light. Would you do a modeling shot with your phantom?
