I think breaking the year up into smaller chunks is probably a better way of approaching it. A whole year without a new bag feels daunting but a couple of months feels very doable! And succeeding for the first quarter should give us a boost for the next quarter (I hope)

That's a good way to look at it. Small chunks.

Ideally I should be on ban island until my birthday, and I shall do my best to try.

With like as few escapes as possible. But I'm seeing stuff expected to launch in 2017 for LV and oh no. [emoji85]

I was originally going to allow myself 32 bags. But, I'm currently at 26 bags and really think I can get my "final" collection to 28 bags max over the next few years. I have 7 bags I want to slowly replace and 2 TBD to reach my max. I think it makes sense to add these 9 bags slowly (over 3-4 years) to get the "right" ones. I think this approach will also give me some fun variety as I'll have bags from different years with influences from different trends.

So, my new slightly adjusted goals:

• Sell 15 bags: 13 purgatory, 2 in collection
• Buy no more than 3 bags (preferably just 1 or 2)
• Have a 100% success rate on purchases

I think another addition in my resolution is to learn contentment and appreciate what I have.

I think many of us, myself included, get caught up in the pursuit of items that we really don't cherish what we have.
You're so right, I've been thinking about this too. I have some lovely bags and sometimes I take them for granted, they're just part of my everyday life and I lose track of how fortunate I am. And Tpf makes you forget that its not "usual" to have a collection of great bags, and highlights all the ones we don't have!!
I read recently that the key to contentment is gratitude. I think there's something in that for sure.

+1
That's exactly my target for 2017
I'm pretty much done for all i wanted (and needed) and even a little bit more... so now it's time to use, appreciate and learn how to be happy with what i have

Vink I read somewhere it's in fashion to carry 2 bags at the same time [emoji106][emoji4]
I read that too! The one I read had pics of Rihanna carrying two haha. They also joked that she probably had nothing in them haha.

Question for everyone as we look to optimize our closets.

If you had to give up 1 bag from what you consider to be your "main" collection, what would it be. And...what's keeping you from giving it up now?
From my main workhouse collection, I'd have to say it would be my Banana Republic large tote. I can't give it up because it's just so damn sturdy and functional when I really need a carefree bag for the worst of weather or uses. From my main 'i love to own them' collection, it would be my Miu Miu large convertible tan clutch. I can't give it up because i love looking at it waaaay too much and owning it makes me happy.

This is a tough one because I just got rid of it. If I had to get rid of another it would probably be one of mz bag baby janes because you would have to pry another one of my lv's from my hands. Last year I would have said the Rouge epi speedy but since everyone helped me style it ,it has seen more love again.
so glad your rouge speedy made the cut! I love that one.

Wow! Can't believe that I am so behind on the 2017 thread!

Some of you know me, for others, "hi, I'm Mimmy"! [emoji112]

I lurked on the 2015 and 2016 threads. I was pretty active before that. I took my time away to really determine "my style". The ladies on this thread have impeccable taste; that's a given! My problem is that I am a marketing expert's dream. If something is presented to me in an appealing way, I like it! [emoji106]This resulted in me ending up with some bags and clothing, that while lovely, had nothing to do with me. [emoji53]

So during that time, I sold, gifted and bought too. This time with more of a plan and a purpose though.

I now have 14 bags; 16 if I count my Le Pliage's.
In 2017 I plan to add only 1 or 2 bags. I like this "skinny" bag count!

16 slg's; this count includes 3 pochettes. I hope to only add 1 or no slg's.

I think that I have finally discovered what works for me. [emoji3] I think that it was louvigilante, who said, I don't have to own everything that I like". True words of wisdom. [emoji432]

Sorry about this long post, but I am hoping that writing it down will keep me accountable!
Hey! Great to see you on here for 2017! I'm lucky to be able to see your lovely collection on other threads, and can't wait to see them here too, and the 1 or 2 you might add.

@Sparkletastic thanks for the warm welcome!

Your question is a difficult one for me, as I just sold a bag. If I had to get rid of another one, it would be this one ...

Reed Krakoff, shearling Kit bag. Only because I live in FL, and it is a very seasonal bag. I am glad that this is a hypothetical question though, as I do not really want to let it go!
I love this one - it makes me think of a function, portable stuffed animal. And you're the only person I can think of that can rock it.

I want to join this thread! In 2016, I have made a few big purchases and I really feel that I should be content with what I have. I acquired some very hard to find Hermes bags and I think I have all occasions covered.
In 2017, I have one Hermes special order bag I really want it to come in. And I want to sell 3 of my none Hermes bags. I want to stop buying any SLG if I can help it because I really have too many already. I want to use what I have more in rotation. Wish me luck!

This thread really helped me a LOT last year, xiangxiang. I know what you mean about SLGs! I have kind of a problem with them :giggle: because they aren't as expensive as bags, and they're just so darned cute! But because of this thread, last year I was able to re-home 13 SLGs, and only bring in 3. But one of them was a birthday gift from my Mom, so I'm not exactly counting it since it didn't come out of our family budget :graucho:.
Good luck with your goals, and if you're tempted to buy any more SLGs, come talk to us first! We'll help!

Thank you dear, you are such a sweetie! Yes SLGs are problems! Especially Hermes keeps churning out new colours every season! I nearly bought another Constance long wallet earlier this month, despite the fact that I have 5 long wallets (not all Hermes) already! But when I saw the price, senses came to me and I resisted and no regrets. So I will stick with my 5 long wallets, 3 compact wallets, one card case in 2017 and be content. I also want to sell one of the long wallets so we shall see.

Your did so well with re-homing SLG in 2016! And no gift certainly doesn't count.
