What is the longest period of time you have spend searching for a grail?
Are there any that you have given up on?

Over the years I've had so many "grails" that ultimately didn't work for me - ELEK, C'est La Fête, Turandots, many Tohu Bohus - I really only keep what I wear, although sometimes I let things go that I shouldn't and then I'm searching again! [emoji16]

Ok, per your question -

In the early days of EBay, there was much searching for Rencontre Oceane - first in the green CW, then the hot pink. I found both after two or three years and ultimately sold both as they did not work for me. I do wish I'd kept the hot pink, as now I would definitely wear it. It my opinion, it is one of the top ten prettiest cws of a scarf.

Les Ameriques in blue - that was a year or two. And then not long after I found it they did the Washington DC special edition.

Sometimes you'll find a scarf that isn't particularly popular but somehow becomes magic when worn. For me that scarf is Dans les Braches de l'Ombu. I picked up the the light blue and white cw at a sale years ago (DS1 actually picked it out for me) and although it is not particularly my favorite, it ties so well that I will never let it go. I know there are other cws but they are hard to find - I would love to find the light pink, been searching for four or five years. Would definitely like to find some other cws, too.

Also been looking for the Central Park by Toutsy in the periwinkle cw for a few years. That one I had, why did I let it go?

How many of you hoard grail patterns simply because you love the design but not the cw?

I have an ELeK 90 in a muted c/w and rarely wear it. My dear SA brought it in for herself and it was the last last last last 90 available in the US. It sat on her hold shelf forever and she graciously let me buy it when I mentioned I was looking for ELeK.

I have since added more ELeK to my collection, mostly CSGMs, but I cannot bear to part with this scarf. Whenever I go though my collection and cull the "mistakes" I pick this one up, look at the design, and put it back. Every time. Sigh.

sickgrl. This is an interesting question. In some post somewhere, there was some discussion/poll about whether we select scarves predominantly by color or pattern. I think in the end, most ultimately base their purchase on color of the pattern. I think though that all color ways of ELenK, lumieres de Paris, and Turandot send people into a frenzy:D. I am lucky as I like brides de gala and there are so many color ways of that readily available.

Well over twelve years to find Le Alfee. It was the Hermes scarf that made me rethink the whole brand.

Growing up in farming country Hermes was top quality horse gear and their scarves and clothing were worn by very conservative pillars of the community. I did not then appreciate QE and her hardworking outfits or taste.

When a friend showed me Le Alfee I started a hunt. Since I was only interested in mint condition with the descriptive card it took quite a while. This is not my scarf but it is the same SE

Meanwhile I built a collection of SE Hermes scarves along with seasonal designs and all the variations of Hermes products.

Always hesitate to update my Hermes scarf spreadsheet, it's not really a need to know thing & I certainly don't particularly want to read the little number on the bottom left hand side.

You are very lucky to love Brides de Gala! It seems to pop up in some form almost EVERY collection! I don't know how many more ways H can rework this pattern ;).
[For the record, I like BdG also since it is CLASSIC H, but I don't consider it a personal grail]

Turandot, on the other hand looks amazing in just about every colorway like you said. Hopefully they will bring this one back as a reissue some day.

Wow! 12 years! You are quite the patient one! This SE of Aube is stunning. I have a non-SE in muted tones and I wear it a lot. Aube in general is an under-the-radar grail but it ties wonderfully.

This is the best discussion ever, the concept of a Grail , its procurement and eventual suitability or not .
I never thought I would a Grail , but then came the yellow Concours d'Etriers shawl and I suddenly knew what it felt like to want a scarf that much , and paid dearly to have it quickly.Never regretted it .
Those elusive ones that folk wait for ,those that just aren't out there, that's something I haven't got around to yet .

Your Siam looks fantastic, most Grail-worthy and it ties like a dream .
Got me thinking, I'd never have thought it would look this good !

Thank you my dear. This is one I longed for mostly for the pattern...well really the topic...as Siam/Thailand holds a special place in my heart. It was the first country I ever visited in Asia and I fell in love immediately...everything from the culture to the people to the art to the food captivated me. [shhhh. don't tell my Chinese DH! haha]

There are a few colorways of this design that I love but this one was the first that came up for a reasonable price in good condition so I pounced. It does not come up for auction often and when it does the condition or price [or color] is usually not for me.

Essiedub and a few others asked to see my new Siam flat so here it is! :-). This colorway is from the 1991 reissue. The original 1978 issues I've seen seem to have sharper details in the statues which I would have preferred but I'm happy with this c/w overall.

Yes great cw , others have figures that are monochrome esp beige , I like these in the contrasting colors better, nice !
