Grails for me are things I notice again and again in other people's posts and keep coming back to in my mind. Sometimes the look of it tied just melts my heart. Sometimes the topic of the design draws me in. I'm a sucker for anything Paris related.

Yes. Outside of Year of India, and current designs, this is how I've fallen for others. So very true.

Considering those of you with lovely, grail -filled collections, what are some of the most iconic Hermes patterns?
I immediately think of brides de gala, ex libris, and les cles.
What would be considered "must haves"?

Ex Libris, absolutely. Is there any more iconic symbol of the house of Hermes than the Caleche design?

First designed by Hugo Grygkar in 1941, this design has been released and re-released in so many different colorways over the decades, most recently as a bandana currently available on H.com

And then completely reimagined in the last several years...

Ex Libris en Carreaux

Then getting even more creative by taking apart the caleche design and marrying it to another Hermes icon: the Kelly Bag

And even making an appearance, or would that be, disappearance, in C'est la Fete

Brides de Gala is of course another classic, but the only reimagining I can think of is Brides de Gala en Finesse.

Based purely on numbers, Ex Libris wins.

I agree. Even I adore the iconic Ex-Libris.

When I started to appreciate H silks again , the huge grail was black and white CSGM un Cheval Sur Mon Carré, I couldn't see the reason it made sensible people part with serious money . I do love the design and have a couple but still can't see why that black one hit the spot.
I don't see grails as necessarily linked to traditional designs , it's just a fever in the blood.

Zebra Pegasus , Tyger , Sieste all have had huge success I suppose in a year or two they'll be hot property ….

This should be an interesting discussion. Different people will have very different reasons, which I'm intrigued to hear. My grails have nothing to to with the classic iconic patterns because I was very surprised to learn I don't gravitate toward them. Year of India scarves are grails for me because I lived there for a couple of years and because what a year of beauty it was! But I don't love them all, so they're not all grails for me.

Really looking forward to this discussion. What makes a grail for you texasgirligirl?

This is, indeed, an interesting discussion. [BTW, I'm so jealous that you lived in India...it has been on my bucket list of places to visit for sooooo long but life always ends up taking me somewhere else LOL]. The India-themed scarves are almost all lovely so you have a great list of grails to choose from!!

I am a bit eclectic in my tastes but if I had to pick one "theme" that I gravitate towards most it would be anything Oriental [both in the modern meaning i.e. Far East and the traditional meaning i.e. Near East]. I have three already that fit into that broad category [Jonques et Sampans, Tapis Persans, and Chevaux Arabes] but most of my grails also fall into the theme as well.

Of course, C'est la Fete is an exception but one that [as the lovely PBP says below] "melts my heart"!

I agree that Ex Libris is quintessential Hermes!! I've yet to buy any Ex Libris scarves but I do have a Mosaique au 24 ashtray that I use daily. It really is one if their most recognizable symbols.

My grail is something that is reflects the house's heritage in design and spirit - Pegase de Hermes in ultra violet. It's a work of art that is functional and fantastical. I would love to get my hands on the white / black to frame in my office. Still kicking myself for letting it get away.

Really new to the forum but wanted to share my Grail scarves to-date :smile1:

I fell in love with the Petit Duc scarf last March when i tried it on in the store and the colours just seemed to go so well with my skin tone and hair colour. The touch of mustard and grey is just amazing on the silk. it's a great piece of wear in place of a necklace!

This year when i visited France again, I got the cashmere scarf from their latest Collection Imperiale. I fell in love with the floral motif and chose it over the Tyger scarf. Little did I know that the motif had a strong link to the Imperial Ming collection, which was great since i'm Asian ;)

My friends think i'm crazy shelling out this money for a scarf, but I think its worth every penny!

Technically I just have one violet and it is the one I wear the most. ..I tend to fell for designs but the only one that got me falling as hard as the pegase is the tigre du bengale. .
