I have no doubt that some resellers are using the forum in that way. Whenever a certain scarf , especially an older design, is applauded on a scarf thread, as surely as night follows day certain resellers trot it out at an outrageous price.
They are parasites , but symbiotic ones ….how else would we acquire our grails :wondering

I'll let you know if I see one here .Why not ask your H to do a search , they often turn up things from past seasons .
Do you have the number of the c'way , just remind me ?

This is very true frou frou. I've noticed it as well. It's almost like clockwork. The latest was yesterday's H Beverly Hills coming up on eBay. It happens too often to be a coincidence.

That's a good idea Honeylocks. Thegriswolds and I (with the help of PbP's SA in DC) were able to do exactly that. And I know that PbP also found a very difficult moussie this way. Call your SA and ask them to put on a search! You never know. It's not like De La Mer is that old. We saw two or three when we were in DC earlier this month.

The grail I was expecting on Saturday never arrived. Hopefully today. I have one other in the works and don't want to jinx it. In the meantime, here are my two remaining grails. The first is fleurs d'indiennes in Mai tai's colors. So summery and bright. The second is printemps ete 69 automne hiver 70 in taupe and blue. What can I say? I am a child of the 70s. I love the outfits on the women, the H border and the color combination.

These are both fabulous! I do love the fresh colors on that FdI!

Here's to latest grail arriving today!

I don't understand this Perula. Do the resellers have a stash of scarves they keep in abeyance until they read about a demand for them?

Hi beekmanhill, I have no idea how they do it. It's an excellent question.

I think some of them do have a huge stash, and list scarves according to various criteria including demand generated by we silk lovers on tpf

I had a grail some time ago so I messaged a well known reseller to ask if they may have it , they did ! It was a design from several years back .

I am intrigued as to where the stock comes from in the first place that they can afford to sell new below retail, but that's off piste on this thread!

Any interest in a particular design triggers LOTS of readers and sellers. It always has been like that, for as long as I can remember. A few reasons for that ....

There seem to be more bids if I authenticate, so I can make the price go up (ABSOLUTELY no intention on my part). The issue is 2 fold: Authenticated scarves command a better price but by bringing up the design makes people look and think about something new

Yes professional scarf sellers READ this forum, and might trot one out from the closet based on interest here BUT

I think the real phenomenon is that many sellers are really part time collector/sellers rather than full time pros. They sell mostly to cull their own purchases. and may have a scarf - that they are not sure of - they may suddenly think of selling it if they see a lot of interest in it (BIG price). Anyone with more than 5 scarves has sold a few at some time or another. Everyone is a scarf seller.

Moral of the story: if you have a grail and want it at a good price, never ask to have it authenticated here & never discuss it onlne LOL

Interesting. On the other hand if you want your grail and are not overly concerned with price posting could help drive some out into the market. [emoji4]

You hold great power in your hands, MarieTouchet. :D
When I find my grail, I'll ask for authentication, no matter the price.

I wonder if some of those resellers buy a number of scarves at the H boutiques on their way to being offered Bs and Ks to flip, and since they've made their profit elsewhere, they can take a "loss" elsewhere to sustain their business model. This is mainly speculation on my part.

Hmmmm rather brilliant, actually.:p
Do you think the SA's realize who these resellers are? I honestly don't see how they can NOT know....especially when some of these bags are clearly SO's.:nogood:
OK..off to check the websites for my grail....once again.:smile1:

In this thread, a former H intern discusses some of the issues regarding resellers:

My apologies for encouraging us to go off topic. To get us back on track, should we encourage people to post only the grails that they have already attained? That can, we can celebrate everyone's victories without making it harder for future victories to be won.

That's so true, Marietouchet. Just yesterday something I looked at (with a good price) spiraled and ended with a price I would not pay. You have power. Oops, I am out of topic here. :blushing:

Yes, but quietly ask your friends first ... Deliberate posting to flush out grails at any cost is a dangerous practice ... it might cause you to go outside your own financial comfort zone BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY I have seen this lead to temporary STRATOSPHERIC inflation in the prices of scarves

Rencontre Oceane went for obscene prices a few years ago when it got talked up, now, no one cares any more hardly

In the Hermes world, there are always buyers with DEEPER POCKETS than yourself, they get a bee in their bonnet and will pay $1400 for a 90cm twill because they got interested from some post at TPF

I wouldn't doubt that Marie. There is definitely an illogical frenzy having to do with anything Hermes. The most important point I think would be to never spend more than you want to or can afford for something simply based on its popularity.

PS Scarves are different from bags

IMHO Bags are more often sold at fixed prices (Buy It Now), while scarves are auctioned off , flexible price , multiple bidders

And it only takes 2 to get into a bidding war for prices to rise
