Would you bring a high end bag to college classes?

Nope... I wouldn't carry an expensive handbag to classes, I might take one to a presentation or during summer classes when I would just be carrying a straw handbag and be going to do stuff afterwards... not a full class day though. ;)

I would be afraid of it getting stolen during class, and just one more thing to keep track of, etc. We always had totes made for organizations we were in that everyone used for their stuff anyhow.

I was in college about 3 years ago and I am currently filling out grad school apps as we speak!! So hopefully it hasn't changed too much!! :wlae:

congrats and good luck with grad school!! What are you going for?

I have to agree that competition should be for marks - but having said that I went to classes how I felt, sometimes dressed up, sometimes super casual (BUT NEVER pyjamas, or sweats - sorry i don't get this at all, why sweats which are for the house or sports when you can wear jeans??).
I would not care if that amuses someone - I was amused in return at other people's attire.

So, what I am saying is - take the bag because you want to but not bec you want to compete with your class mates - Jen is right, compete there for grades. Also, different unis different styles - the uni I work at now everyone dresses up in my subject ares (isn't it funny how different subjects/disciplines have different dress codes??)

Oh, one more thing - never leave your bag in the boot - YOu don't want to find it is gone after a long day - better leave it at home then.

I only brought my smaller bags to class (some designer, some not), anything I could stuff in my bag along with my books and laptop. Since my usual school load was so heavy I never brought a bigger bag. Besides I kind of felt strange when I took out designer stuff at my school. But it is all down to your personal choice, if you want to, go ahead. But a Paddy is really heavy...:sweatdrop:

I didn't when I was in college. I just used a North Face backpack on days when I had a few classes one after the other, and an Herve Chapelier tote on my lighter days.

I say if you've got it, flaunt it. Of course multi-thousand dollar handbags are pretty, but being able to show it off is more than part of the reason why people buy them!! However as soon as you start walking around with more than one purse - or god forbid, a purse AND a backpack - then you start looking silly. If you want to bring your Paddy to school, go for it, but don't carry it unless it's the only bag on your arm.

Thanks! I'm excited. I have an undergrad degree in Business Marketing, I am planning on getting a MBA with empathsis in Human Resource Management, and possibly a secondary empathsis in Marketing too, since I have so much undergrad work in it.

Even with dressing a bit more professional for class.. I'd have to agree with Laria - a Paddy would be REALLY heavy to carry around all day... in addition to books, etc.

This was an interesting thread....when I went to college and even high school I had and used my designer bags....

It certainly wasn't about 'showing off', they were my purses and I used them :shrugs: .

Who wants to change bags everyday based on class or no class.

Carrying just one bag around is inconvenient sometimes. I have an office in the department which I share with 3 other people, and I bring a smaller bag inside my bookbag. If I want to go out for a while - like for lunch I leave my bookbag in my office and just take my smaller bag whch has wallet, eyeglasses case, meds and checkbook in it.

Downside is if I want to take something out of my wallet I have to open my bookbag and then the smaller handbag also.

I'd say do what makes you happy. For school i usually carry my large Marc Jacobs Multipocket.. No ones ever known what it is or said anything about it beyond "I love your bag!" Unless you go to school in NYC or Los Angeles.. and unless you are carrying LV or Chanel, i don't anyone would recognize what it is.

I bring mine! Large Coach and Louis Vuitton... I love them and I paid a lot of money on them so I like to use them. I like how they look. I'm THE only girl with designer bags on campus, though. Someone has a fake, and someone else I saw might have a designer bag but I'm not sure if that one is fake.
Of course my Coach isn't designer, but those are some I take that cost a lot.

However I do have 2 non-designer bags (both like $50 each or less) that I switch between, particularly if it's raining out or if I just feel like it. I switch them depending on my moods!

I don't get going to class in pajamas. That's really kind of gross. In my undergrad, for the most part, you WOULD see ladies going to 8:00 classes looking like models. That's just how we did it there. It wasn't about impressing someone. It was about looking and feeling good. That's just the Spelman way.

To the OP, I don't see anything wrong with carrying a designer bag, but your reasoning is what is off to me. Why are you trying so hard to impress others? It just seems kind of lame. And on the note of the baby bag you like to flash, how impressive is a baby bag going to be anyway? It's a BABY bag. NOt a designer handbag.

ugh, agreed. If someone doesn't shower and rolls out of bed for example, honey, I can smell ya' from here. In place of pyjamas, loungewear.. unless they're used as the same. It's okay to be comfy but I guess what I'm trying to say is the hygiene aspect is bothersome haha.

I never carried a purse to class, only a backpack. The school I went to was really laid back so a purse def. would have stood out. Plus, if you there all day, it is easier to consolidate everything into one bag. It is just a little more practical.

If it is functional, I think it is fine. But the OP does seem a little too concerned with showing off. I saw a girl carrying THREE LVs yesterday. It looked tacky and ridiculous.
