Would you bring a high end bag to college classes?

i had a little lv pochette i'd carry around with my backpack just to carry my keys, cell phone, and small essentials that i don't carry in my backpack. but i'd walk into class in sweats, to be honest. i just liked the lv, i didn't care if people noticed.
now i have a huge bag that i carry everything in, even a few books. however, i'm an art student, so i'm not usually carrying a bag so much as a huge portfolio.
i think if you like it, carry it, but honestly don't bring it if you're going to worry over it just to use it to make people jealous.

I've been in a university setting for over 20 years, both as a student and as a professional, and I can say with some confidence that other students have a lot more to worry about than what bag you're carrying (and if they don't, they'll flunk out soon enough and won't be able to judge you!). Carry what makes *you* feel confident, can take the load you need, and doesn't leave you with a backache at the end of the day.

I could leave it in the car, hidden (even locked down with the key on ME lolol), but that's risky.

NEVER, I mean NEVER leave a bag in a parked (even locked) car. There are thieves that just know a woman is going to leave her purse in the car at places such as school, the beach, sporting events etc and they break into several cars in a row stealing the bags.

I say if you want to carry the bag to school, just do it!!! Life is too short to constantly worry about what is appropriate or not.

I've been going to night school for the past four years (started when I was 26) so it's a little different for me, but I've been wearing my Montsouris backpack to school for years. It's super functional- it's huge and holds my books, notebooks, lunch for work, water bottle, etc. Also I wear it to work anyway, and then just go straight from work to school. But reading these posts I'm starting to feel kind of self-conscious about my bag! I love LV but I have to say I don't think I'll buy any more monogram bags, only the Epi or Suhali or other subtle lines without a logo.

I don't usually bring a purse/handbag when I'm in school.. although I do carry my books and stuff in a Black LV Epi backpack. The backpack is all black with no logo splashed all over the place, so it's pretty inderstated. =)

I've brought designer bags to school sometimes, but usually it's because it's a night class and I'm going out to dinner afterwards or it's a day class and I'm heading out to lunch.

Carrying a paddy around and having to set it on the floor or somewhere sounds icky to me.

i dont know about you, but anytime i see some girl or guy walk into lecture looking like theyre on Americas next top model, i just laugh. a lot of the time most students (myself included) dont even have time to really put together a chic outfit for a morning class we roll out of bed for (sweats and a campus sweatshirt!) a lot of people (myself NOT included) dont even bother to go to class showered, or go in their pajamas, so why bother with a designer bag, that not many people in a room of 500 will notice anyway? i save fashion fowardness for being home in nyc and sometimes my smaller evening classes.

I totally disagree with this. Why would you laugh at somebody just because they took the time to look put together? I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Just because other people prefer to look like slobs in class, doesn't mean that those who try to look decent and put together should be made fun of. I say, wear whatever you feel like wearing to school! If you are proud of your bag, then go for it! Personally, I do not carry my LV to school just because I don't want to abuse it and I want it to stay nice. Express yourself however you feel and don't worry about what other people think.

I have a Dooney & Bourke tote that I use for a school bag. It holds my notebooks and a big textbook or a few smaller textbooks, plus has pockets perfect for my pens and stuff on one side, and cell phone and keys on the other side.
I bought it used on Ebay but in good condition, because I didn't want a new bag that I'd be worried about getting dirty, but I wanted something cute to carry my stuff in and didn't want to use my Coach bags.

I disagree with almost everyone that's posted so far. Many, many, many people will not notice "Ohh, that's an expensive bag!" or "That's a Chloe!". If I were you I would carry it if I wanted to carry it. You've already carried LV, so what's the big difference. Actually, LV is more obviously designer to the average person than Chloe is. I think you should try to limit yourself to a tote and a purse. (That's what I do!)

Basically, it just depends on your personal preference, so just do what you want.

(***I am not a college student, so I may not understand that aspect. I am in highschool, so I'm not experienced with classes of 500 and dorm rooms!***)

When I was in college, I had one designer bag, which was my LV Speedy 25. I carried everywhere. A good friend of mine had the same bag. I never felt like I was in danger or like people even noticed (I went to school in Michigan).

Hello, I'm new. I'm also in college and I carry my lady dior large cannage tote and my luis vuitton damier chelsea tote. I only have 2 classes a day so everything fits as long as my books aren't heavy, it's fine. Also I don't try to look like americas next top model, I just like to be fashionable 24/7, just in case:kiss:

I do but it's functional and carries my books plus everything else I have for the day. On occassion I see other girls with real, high end bags but all of them are serving the purpose of a bookbag and handbag. Also people in my school tend to dress up alot more than in typical american universties. It's not unusual to see someone in designer something.

I dont really think that she meant it like that. Its more of the sense that they are all put together like they are going to the club, instead of to class. Its almost as if they are trying to impress someone, rather than be in a learning enviornment. There is a time and place for everyting. Its like the girls that wear high heel stilettos to the gym. It just looks out of place. Im not saying that you should go to school in the stuff you wore last night and roll out of bed, either. Its just the whole sense that you arent doing it for yourself, your doing it to be noticed.
I go to college here in Hawaii and I know several girls who carry designer bags but they key to that is they are functional. I dont really have a designer bag (just my tokidoki's) but I bring my bag to class because its what I carry all the time. Plus it fits my needs for the bag. I think that if its functional and you feel comfortable with it, then you should do it. but dont do it for prestige or to be noticed. Do it because wearing the bag makes you happy.
Just my .02
