Would you bring a high end bag to college classes?

I just graduated from a school where a lot of girls tried to get noticed by their designer bags etc. However, when you're a college student, you should have more important things to worry about (like your grades!) than what someone thinks of your purse. You shouldn't be thinking about wanting to show off. I didn't bring my designer bags to class simply because people tend to trip over bags on the ground and totes are placed on the ground anyway. If I'm spending that much on a purse, I don't want it to get ruined so quickly. But if you carry it because it's your style and what you love, then do it. But don't do it for the sake of showing off. That's just shallow.

I don't think anyone else really cares what bag their classmates carry. If you're in a sorority, its more likely that your peers will care, but otherwise, it's irrelevant. Decide whether you want your designer bags exposed to the kind of wear and tear they will get from going to class every day.

I agree with this. I really think most people don't care, and the ones who do either are superficial (so who cares what they think) or appreciate fashion. Whenever I see a nice bag, designer or not, it makes me smile.

here's my opinion: if you're using it as a "school bag" then i think it's fine. i wouldn't care too much about it because it's bound to get stained by coffee or start tearing due to books.. or have pencil/pen marks on it.

i have a coach legacy leather pocket shoulder tote and used it every single day for 2 years... even put my lap top & a few other text books in it & it held up. it didn't shout "look at me, i'm COACH!!!" like an LV, dior or gucci would, but i did get lots of comments on it.

there's nothing wrong with showing off a little bit. it actually doesn't matter what brand it is, as long as it gets the job done. BUT i think it looks tacky when i see a girl carrying a high end bag AND lugging around a big ol' backpack. that's just unnecessary.......

Moloko u said it best and elaborated the point I was trying to make. If you can find a cute, durable and practical bag to carry all your books and stuff then do it. I have the coach tattersal that I know will last a long time and withstand the wear and tear of all my school stuff. When I go to class I grab my glasses, wallet and phone out of my handbag, leave it in the car or house, and throw said items in my tattersal. I am able to carry different designer bags every day but maintain using my durable school bag at the same time.

I'm a college freshman & I use my Miu Miu bag sometimes. Of course, it can't fit ANY notebooks or anything, so I'll only use it when I need just my laptop (which I'll carry by arm). Then I'll promptly switch to my Jansport backpack afterwards.

I see tons of girls using their MJ, LV, Coach, Gucci, Balenciaga bags too... I couldn't do that because I always have this notion that the straps will break, lol.

Personally I don't think it matters what you use, so long as you don't wear them to show off to people who can't afford what you have, and you don't have tons of stuff in your arms while wearing that designer bag (one of my pet peeves is to see people with designer bags that don't hold all they need to carry...). For me it's not practical so I don't do it; I have too much music and books I need to carry that a bag wouldn't be enough to house all of it. I'm also a little self-conscious wearing designer things to school, just because I would be thinking whether the professors would know the brand of the bag I'm wearing, etc., and I know that most of them cannot afford them.

I carried my Mulberry 'Roxanne' to school and found it really practical. I could fit my laptop and books in it and I didn't have to worry about it breaking. Carry your designer bag with pride and look down on the peasants who think you're showing off...

Hope you're just joking about the peasant part, otherwise a sense of socioeconomic superiority is not good :nogood: My own grandfather on my father's side was a peasant, lol. Anton Chekhov, a famous Russian writer, also had a serf for a grandfather; it's never good to use those things to judge a person!

I would never leave a nice bag in the car. More likely that your car will get broken into than you will get mugged because there's nobody present. I enjoyed looking at my nice bag when I was in class. But now with teaching, my bags take a beating so I need to stop carrying my nice ones to class, especially since several things have gotten stolen from my room lately.

i hope u don't mean the 'peasant' bit in your comment coz it is rather rude. just coz some ppl don't own one doesn't make them peasants.

personally, i won't be carrying it to uni, although i might depending on the day. if i am going out, why not, if not... why carry one around, because people will just assume it is a fake, even though it might be real!!
coz i hate it when u carry a bag and the first thing ppl ask u 'is it real?' and if it is, 'how much?' if it sounds too cheap... 'u sure it is real?'

mnay of you have made great points; but i will say that many do take noitce of what others carry their textbooks in to class. i will say that on campus you have the "made up people" than you have sweats/ pajama pants and hoodie people. I have noticed that the hoodie people do often criticize the made up people. i feel as though college campus should be dressy casual as we are preparing to go into the workforce ( some may already be in it ). i guess what the main question is why do you buy designer. I buy for quailty and durbailty ( and of course aesthetic value also). i do not think the "this is class" should be an excuse to look unkept. bring the bag or spend the money elsewhere

I love the Chloe Paddington - bought even before my baby was born and use it as a diaper bag - best investment I ever made. It is heavy but I love carrying it everyday so definitely use your Chloe.

I only carried designer bags throughout college, but I never carried more than ONE bag.

Personally, I think carrying a baby bag as a school bag AND a purse would just look pathetic like you are WANTING to show off that you have two or more designer bags. Honestly, no one really cares... and if you're college experience is anything like mine was, no one would be THAT impressed with a Coach baby bag and a Chloe Paddington *which was only really hard to get/exclusive around 2005. Then again, I had classmates use Hermes bags or GIANT Gucci bags and throw them on the floor.

Use your Chloe and carry a notebook or two, or use your Coach bag. Or buy a nicer tote bag with the intention of having that be your all in one school bag... When I carried a tote, all I needed was my notebook, keys, reading material, sunglasses, Diet Coke, lip gloss, handcream and phone. I think you can fit all of those things into one bag.

I carry my jil sander clutch (it's a about the size of my hand with a loop for my wrist) with my backpack when i go to class, just so that my phone, ID, and CCs are always within reach, I get paranoid about forgetting to zip a compartment, and losing my wallet.
