Would you bring a high end bag to college classes?

Most of the nice bags I have aren't big enough to fit everything I need for a day of classes, so I bring a tote (usually Longchamp). I don't like bringing a tote and a purse, I like having it all in one, and having both a school bag and a purse makes it look like you were just bringing the purse to show it off.

^lol sounds like me then. Except I want to bring a handbag AND a tote because honestly I can't be without a handbag! Plus, I always bring my handbag everywhere in case I need to leave campus for something or have to go somewhere after school. I don't want to leave my handbag in my car because it might get broken into.

I start college in the fall. I'm planning on rotating my Balenciaga and Coco Cabas as my handbags. I also got a Marc Jacobs canvas tote that I can use to actually carry my books/notebooks/school supplies.

I'm also planning on buying either the Chanel Luxe Ligne tote or a Miu Miu belted satchel as my book bag but I haven't yet decided which one. I'm not getting that until September though.

I go to my local university and even tough I don't care what people wear, I do enjoy getting up early matching up my outfit and I always wear designer bags, and shoes beacuse that is all I have....I also enjoy getting dolled up, wearing my makeup and doing my hair....I am in school all day, I might as well look good..an I guess it works, I took 3 class over the express summer an earned 2 A's an one B......I love school...I dress how i do for myself, don't care what people think....:queen::queen: and I won't change for anyone.....people are going to talk to matter what, so lets give them a reason......
Me too! I like the feeling of dressing up. It isn't even about me wanting to look better than everyone else, but it just makes me feel more confident.

Only if it was functional. I don't have any big designer bags so if I just needed to carry a couple of pens and a notebook then sure I would take my purse to class. But usually I need textbooks so I carry my Longchamp totes. I think it looks dumb to carry a bag full of books and then another purse...I would just put everything into one bag. Besides, like someone said, a classroom is not about showing off your clothes, shoes, etc. In general, IMO, I don't think one should carry a designer bag just to show off.

It sounds like you have fantastic bags so I can handle it:tup:

i didn't. it only causes jealousy. i once carried a black monogram gucci and people literally stared. i felt kinda weird, lol.

i would't carry anything with monogram but i think it's okay to bring a 'neutral' leather bag, like the LV epi passy.

I agree about the jealousy/looks. I go to a tech school and am studying engineering. There are about 4 of us really girly girls who are very serious about what we do. We are always surrounded by guys and we sometimes try to downplay our femininity to blend in a little better. There is my one friend who doesn't hold back, and it is often distracting because she sticks out like a sore thumb. Women are so scare in Electrical Engineering as it is, having boobs is enough to draw attention. When I wear makeup all of my guys will wonder what is different about me or why I look dressy.

I have friends (aka other EE girls) who do the backpack and purse thing, or they put their purse inside their backpack and pull it out when necessary. I have the friend who has a little wristlet in her backpack or carries a very understated tote that fits everything she needs. I have the friend who only does the tote bag. I just carry my backpack with my dooney wallet tossed in.

I don't really know where I am going with this. I have been going through all the posts trying to get a coherent response. I had a really horrible time in middle school and have developed a lot of insecurities because I never wore the right clothes, so a lot of my obsession stems from wanting to fit in and wanting people to accept me. If that's why you are buying your bags and wearing them, then there are problems there that need to be addressed. (I am adressing mine, I'm not being a hypocrit). If you think you are well adjusted and wear the bag because it's a bag, then have at it. If you can afford to replace these expensive bags, then go ahead. But if you are continually worrying about the bag (is it getting dirty? I can't put it on the floor!) then you are just taking away from your classes. You are at school to learn, and that should be your NUMBER ONE concern, not the type of bag or your outfit. I understand those of you who feel better when you dress up, more power to you.

The brand of bag ultimately shouldn't matter. It's sad that it does...

I went to a private New England school so I understand the urge and reasons behind why people would use a designer bag for class. I say just use a functional bag no matter what designer it is (as others have said) or do what I did and just get a Longchamp and a two-tone Herve C. and call it a day. They are designer, they last, acceptable and fun enough because they come in so many colors you can choose whatever you want. Plus, they hold everything.

I usually would say to just grab any bag that's functional, no use spending so much money on something that's probably going to get trashed with all it's use and like me mum said, 'school's not a fashion show'.. but then again, i'm the girl who wants a balenciaga to use for school. so. haha. change of heart for me i guess. I say do what you want. As long as you're happy!! it's all that matters!!

I went to school for CE & EE, and my classes consisted mostly of guys. The few girls dressed down most of the time, and I was the girl in the back with the Chanel tote taking notes on my powerbook. I was noticed more because I wore heels and skirts, not because of my purse. I say as long as you like it and are comfortable with it, it doesn't matter what other people may think. If you want to stand out in a crowd and it doesn't interfere with your studies, go for it :D

Which one? At mine, it was almost a big faux pas to show wealth at all, except for dances. Designer handbags were considered tacky and very nouveau riche.. people the school made a concerted effort to keep out.

But, as a side note:
HC bags were popular since they did not have logos and could be used to books/sports equipment.
