This is exactly why I carry a purse all the time - I once tried to use a bathroom in JFK and out of my back pocket and down the toilet went my iPhone! I learned my lesson for sure - now I hate carrying anything in my pocket - besides, it makes them so lumpy!

This is exactly what I would be afraid of as well. There is no way in the world I would take my chances and put my cc and phone in my pocket and worry about them falling out for one reason or another (bathroom, trying on clothes, etc). Also, there are clothes out there that just don't come with pockets or make pockets extremely unergonomic (skinny jeans and pencil skirts, for example). That is why there are purses of all sizes for those of us that don't particularly care for the big and bulky ones. There are very few circumstances under which I can imagine myself walking out of the house without a bag of some sort.

I made the decision to go to my younger brother and SIL's house on Thanksgiving without my purse. Their house is only 5 miles from mine, and I had so much food to transport, toys for the kids, folding chairs, etc, that I decided to leave my purse at home.

I missed it. I need my handcream. I needed my lip balm, my phone, my excederin. Then at the end of the night, both of my brothers asked if i wanted to join them for an early Black Friday Target dash and I had to say, "I'd love to, but can we stop at my house and get my purse?"

I couldn't get through 5 measly hours without one of my beloved bags.

I hope those ladies who are not wearing purses (judgingly) ever ask me for any pain meds, feminine product, nail file, dental floss...
I hope you meant this in a joking way - I can't imagine 'punishing' somebody for not carrying a purse. I have a close friend who is a 'tom boy' and carries a wallet in her pocket, no purse. I would never decline her request should she need a pain med or something else I carry in my bag, just because she didn't carry a bag.
___

Most days here lately I find myself carrying only my long wallet with wrist strap - but - when I'm going to be out and about to more than one place, I'll carry my hobo. My criteria: If I start thinking about where I'm going to put my keys, my iPhone, my wallet, my lip balm, my kleenex - I realize I need my purse. ;)

My bag, belt, and boots/shoes are the best part of my outfit! I always wear Levi's and a white or black T-shirt; length of sleeve and weight of the T shirt depends on the weather! I've been known to carry TWO purses at a time, LOL. I will carry my black leather Lucky whipstitch hobo with another smaller leather bag, if necessary. It depends on what I'm in the mood to carry.

I did go through a very short phase in life of not carrying a purse at all. After becoming sober through a 12 step program in 1993 (there, I broke my anonymity) I decided I did not need one, --isn't a purse just for a flask of vodka and some make up--LOL? I was stripping myself of worldly things to find the REAL ME. I did find out that the real me not only NEEDS a purse but wants and loves purses too! Still sober 19+ years.

:hugs: wow major props for sharing Thank you :) 19 years is amazing :woohoo: I am so rooting for you my Grandfather was a big alcoholic from way before I was born (I have heard some pretty bad storys). As a kid I seen him beat my grandmother he tormented us kids :( and as a kid I felt like I hated him up till a few years ago. He got real sick (no one knows why) was temporarily paralyzed from the neck down for about a year he could drink but through his tube. Took him about 2 years to be able to move about. He swore he would NEVER touch a drink if God helped him walk hes going on 5 years and has kept his promise :D He is now fully mobile :D sober with probably the best relationship with my Grandmother that he never would have got the chance to have :). I have now gotten the chance to understand Alcoholism and many of my family members fight it daily and I have my Grandfather who I adore now for that. Glad you came to see that was never what a purse was for this is what its for lmao :bagslap: ;) You deserve every bag on your wish list

i always have my bag with me, depends on where i am going and what i am wearing generally, I used to have a big bags that can carry all i need, but the kitchen sink! but since i started having some problems with my shoulders i had to cut it down, now i'm more with top handled bag and smaller bags, I cant fit all my stuff tho, but saying that they dont tend to hurt my shoulders either so it's managable, I see lots of girls walk around without their handbags, i dont think its not normal, depends on what you doing i guess, i normally take my smallest coach wristlet bag just to fit some money and my keys if im going out to walk my dogs, as you can see I dont think i can live without bags! hahaha

To walk my dog, I have a small Nike white and green nylon cross body bag in which I put my phone and my keys....;)

As much as I believe that what other people do isn't really my business, I simply do not 'get' women who do not carry purses.

Some people are just different and that is ok with me.

Something I have noticed is women who don't carry purses typically are don't wear make up or wear particularly nice or elaborate clothing and overall are not concerned about their appearance so I guess they have no real need for a purse?

I know a couple of people who don't carry purses. They say they misplace them or leave them so they say it's easier to not carry one. For me personally, I always carry a bag. I couldn't ever see myself not carrying a bag. I absolutely love purses. Addicted is more like the right word to use. LOL

I can't imagine misplacing my purse! If you find my purse and not me, something is very wrong!

There was an episode of NYPD Blue years ago where a woman was missing and her purse had turned up somewhere and Sipawitz says "She's dead. A woman NEVER forgets her purse! I've seen woman falling off of barstools who forget their own kid's names but they remember their purse! You find a woman's purse like that, you know she's dead."
