Women who do not carry purses

My sister in law doesn't carry one. She has her cell in her pocket and a card case that looks like the "George Costanza wallet" in her other pocket. Not to mention she has a hard time finding jeans that can fit her stuff, since most of women' pants have very small pockets. She attached her big wad of keys to her belt loop. Meh, whatever floats her boat.

She likes to make comments to me about how annoying purses are and asks me how can i deal with mine. I just shrug, because I generally have a hard time talking with her.

that whole key on the belt loop thing makes me nervous when I think about how easy I could scratch my car just by walking beside it

I HATE hanging keys from my belt. I even hate hanging them from the side of my bag. They make everything feel awkward.

I don't know how people can get by without a bag. I like being hands free. I carry a rather large bag (not as big as most, but not small either) and it only has my wallet, a mini first aid kit that I made and my cell phone. There also is probably an ink pen and some chapstick in there. I couldn't imagine carrying that stuff in my pockets. What about the summer time when pockets aren't that available? My keys alone would drive me nuts in my pockets.

I like having enough room in my bag to put stuff. I end up picking up odds and ends here and there. I also hate grocery bags so if I stop at the store, I usually throw my purchases in my bag. I also like carrying a water bottle, and if I'm reading one, a book.

FWIW, I try not to make my bag heavy at all, and I don't like heavy bags in general. It's important to me that my bag is relatively light.

On the subject of handbags originally being carried only by men - I wonder why more men don't carry them now. One time my husband was teasing me about carrying a purse everywhere and I took all the things he normally stuffs in his pockets and hangs from his belt and put it in a plastic bag and did the same with the contents of my purse and weighed them both. His stuff weighed more and was bulkier!

I've been carrying a purse since I was 4 yrs old, so almost 40 yrs now. I love bags, always have, and even if I could survive with just a chapstick and 2 cards I don't think I'd want to. I can go to the corner store with only the said two cards inside my key holder but if I need to go anywhere further than that, out comes the bag. The bag might be tiny if I just have a couple of short stops to do but for work days, longer shopping trips, outings with the kids etc I need a full sized bag.
I'm one of the people the women who don't carry a handbag come to ask for a pencil, paper, bandaid, pad, hair tie, tooth pick, hand sanitizer, phone charger and everything else they didn't bring but ended up needing. As weird as it seems, these people in need are never the ones who carry large bags. :giggle:

I know a couple of people who don't carry purses. They say they misplace them or leave them so they say it's easier to not carry one. For me personally, I always carry a bag. I couldn't ever see myself not carrying a bag. I absolutely love purses. Addicted is more like the right word to use. LOL
I actually found this forum after googling “what do women carry in their purses” I’m one of those that really doesn’t get it. I’m a woman and only carry my phone, wallet, keys. In the winter I can fit that in my coat pockets, in the summer I use the smallest cross body bag I can find. It’s the size of an envelope and will also fit a chapstick, Tylenol, sunglasses and earplugs.
Reasons I don’t carry a purse? I always leave them everywhere, I like to be hands free, and I hate carrying things. I have almost never needed anything else.

I'm not sure I understand the connection between wearing makeup and nice clothes and having to carry a lot of stuff with you.

I often run out with just a wristlet, it doesn't mean I don't care about my appearance. I put on makeup before I leave home, so I don't need to carry an entire makeup kit with me.
Yes agreed! I never carry a purse but I make sure I always look nice.

I used to be one of those girls who used to only carry a wallet/wristlet until one day I left my wallet on the grocery cart. I live in a place where there is high identity theft so I never felt more fear, anxiety, and panic in my entire life. I was able to grt my wallet back. If I need to be hands free I now wear a crossbody.

I use my purse to carry my medical stuff. One day I was a healthy person and got sick with an autoimmune disorder. I carry my medication with me because sometimes I have to take unexpectedly. I work with the community and live in south Texas. If you wear makeup here and have oily skin it gets sucked up. Because I work with the community and have a lot of clients I always try to make sure I look presentable each time. So carrying makeup is essential. I carry a perfume with me as well. Those are some of the basics.

I just wanted to add also that everyone has different reasons for carrying a handbag. There are parents who need carry and change of clothes, snacks, toys, etc. for their child and for many other reasons.

I could carry a backpack but I am just not a sporty individual. Plus, not for religious reasons I prefer to only wear dresses. I find pants super uncomfortable and if there is a pair pants I do like they usually have no pockets.

Maybe for wherever you are in your life just using a wallet works for you.

But you do carry a purse. And we carry them for the same reason. To have somewhere to put the things we want to take with us and only have one thing to worry about rather than multiple things.

Nothing wrong with carrying one, nothing wrong with not. Whatever works.

Very strange to join a purse forum only to declare you don't get carrying a purse. It's not strange if the point is to agitate other members, but otherwise, why? I guess there are people who actively dislike cars and don't own one who sign up on All Things Subaru, and other such behavior, but again,...why. Rhetorical only.

Personally I don't carry that much stuff with me but I like to have a medium size bag so I don't have to dig around. When I carry a tiny crossbody, I have my wallet, phone, and keys but I might have to take out the wallet to get to the phone or vice versa, etc etc. There is enough room for all my stuff in the bag but not room for all my stuff plus my hand. The trade off is worth it to be hands free on a busy day. But with a medium size bag I can just reach in and immediately feel what I need without having to rummage around, plus I can add a few extras like hand sanitizer, lip balm, sunglasses, dental floss, hair clip, mints... or whatever else I might need that day.

Most of my clothes do not have pockets so I don't think I could even fit the minimum wallet, phone, and keys without carrying a bag of some kind. Even the ones with pockets, my phone is too big to fit.

I agree with A1aGypsy, carrying or not carrying a bag, neither is inherently better or worse, it's just about what works for each individual. This forum is obviously going to be biased towards the bags though.
