Kohl - I'd be a whale if I lived near ktown! Buffet all day every day! Haha and yes I have quite a round face with big eyes so get confused for Korean I guess. DF is convinced that my eyes aren't Chinese! Haha

I almost think you could compare the Tiffany's thing to the way some women react to certain purse brands, Coach,Prada, LV, Chanel, any of the super well known brands. If women hear you spent the money for one of these, they can get super smug thinking their no name, or even worse, knockoff is just as good. I know these aren't exactly the same scenario, but I think it's the same "root cause".

Maybe I need to go back with you. My husband wondered if it was because I look "too young" to be taken seriously. I don't look that young. And it doesn't seem to matter how I dress. I pretty much wear the same thing every day, a cardi over a cami/tee, dark jeans or slacks, gray converse or crocs flats. SOMETIMES in the summer I ditch the cardi, and just layer a lace-trimmed cami under a tshirt. Im boring as hell, actually, but I don't look like a broke-ass child. And I carry an LP that I know Neimans and Saks have carried in the past. I don't look like a Frontenac/Ladue lunchin' lady but I don't look like I came from SoCo either. It's bizarre. I guess that's why I keep going to Nordies. They treat me well.[/QUOTE]

I don't look or dress life the Frontenac/Ladue lunchin' lady either. I generally have jeans and sweater/top or like right now wearing light weight slacks & top. I used to be intimidated by the dressed to the nines ladies I saw there but not any more.

When I have gone to Tiffany's, I know what I want. I have never been ignored or have a SA give me the evil eye. Don't know why??

Is it bad that I don't even know what a Frontenac/Ladue lunchin' lady is? =)

I make good money, but I work very hard. Insane hours sometimes like 80-100 weeks. I always think it is hilarious when I am out and about on a weekend (say, at a department store getting make up done, or something) and an SA asks me, "do you work?". So non chalantly. I dream of what life would be like to have the ability to buy high end luxury items on a regular basis and not even have to worry about working. So not in the cards for me.

I haven't read this entire thread carefully but I want to contribute my 2cents because I'm never the first to fawn over T&Co and OP may be interested :graucho:

I think Tiffany has made such a great market for themselves by selling silver at a premium (don't get me wrong - beautiful designs, I own several) that it attracts all sorts of people through their doors. This sometimes overshadows the fact that they have beautiful high end (and ethical) jewelry pieces that should be highly regarded for their workmanship. I have a friend who works in their corporate HQ and I could really listen to her go on and on about the talented, beautiful things she sees.

I understand people need to make a living and sadly sales is based on commission, but it leads to really stressed out and unfriendly SAs (generally speaking). I guess they don't always know who to take seriously and that really harms them in the long run. Every customer should count! I've shopped at multiple different stores in different states and sadly, my experience is generally tense. I have one really great SA in MD who is absolutely lovely but unfortunately that store doesn't have great stock because it's so small.

I got very self conscious thinking maybe I have Tiffany bashed on this forum! My e-ring may not be from there but I still like them enough to have 18k, pearls, jade, silver from them. I just think, after my experience, there are better places to take my money, especially if I'm shelling out. It's just my opinion.

I agree. There are people who feel the need to put others down in order to make themselves feel better in every arena, whether it is jewelry, handbags, shoes or cars. I often hear people say things when they see a designer item without logos on it like, "Oh, I bought shoes just like that for, like, $20!" It is the same back-handed slap across the face, and it is rude.

While branded jewelry is not a priority for me, I respect that it really matters to some people, just like people have preferences on brands for bags or shoes or cars. If a person is happy with their ring, then it shouldn't matter to anyone else what they paid for it and why.

It is the area where Tiffany's is located here. The ladies who lunch & dress "fancy". lol

ame - lol. There are some people that can wake up in the morning and pull their hair in a ponytail, put on anything and look gorgeous. I wish I could be like that!
I wish I could too. If I don't put concealer on around my eyes I look like a domestic violence victim. I have had several comments asking if I was "ok". Yes, I obviously look like hell without makeup, thanks for pointing it out.

See that's amazing. I wonder what it is about me that brings it. Maybe I have an aura that says "you don't know what you're talking about and I know it" that makes their "educated shopper don't bother" radar go off..

FOR REAL. I HATE IT when people act like anything I have was handed to me. I worked and work my arse off for everything I have.

This. Where the major money is.

^Not to get off topic, but it's where the outdated big money is. That's the thing that is frustrating with that mall... If you haven't been shopping there since the 80s, you are ignored. I've gone here and there, and the only businesses that are CRAZY busy are the cosmetic counters. Usually, it's just SAHMs pushing strollers for exercise... You don't see anyone carrying bags really. I know for a fact that the STL Saks only pulls in 1/12th what ONE Chicago location makes.

I have heard SO many complaints about that mall, especially from CWE residents. (And on the dressing front, if a sales person judges me by my taste for no-logo clothing and denim then that's their loss. People in fashion retail should know that designer clothing WITHOUT obvious logos tends to be more expensive even, if that did matter.)

Like I mentioned, my FI hates the Tiffany store there. But the Tiffany and the Kate Spade store is so helpful towards me. I don't even have the energy to write about the "LV incident." The girl that helps me and my coworker is named Megan. I would ask for her, as she seems to be pretty knowledgeable and helpful.

lol the LV incident. I can only imagine. You definitely did nail that about long time customers. The only attention I get is security. Oh and Bissingers, they treat me well, probably in part because they were a client for a while.

The LV incident was even WORSE than the Service Bureau incident.

Another plus for Tiffany: they sell plain metal wedding bands. And the SAs don't stare at you like you have two heads because you don't want a wedding band with pave diamonds. Out of all of the local shops, the only one with a pleasant experience was Heffern. The rest kept trying to tell me that I wanted a diamond band, that's all they are carrying... At least the T & Co. employees show you what you actually ask for.

Basically, I went to the LV store to make a purchase. I dress pretty casual so I was wearing some $300 AG boyfriend -style jeans, Tory Burch flats, a Juicy sweater, Tom Ford sunglasses... Not St. John or the like, but I wasn't wearing sweats from Target either.

The SA told me that they didn't have the item. When I asked if he could order it for me because I could have ordered it online instead of driving down and I wanted to support the local store, no joke he looked at me and said, "Maybe you should just look online." OH YES HE DID. He also questioned if I could afford the Sprouse graffiti scarf before he had to get it for me out of the window display... Unbelievable! And I work in luxury retail for a designer brand... It's very easy to do your job without being such a **** about it.

My FI's parents are VICs with the Chicago stores-- first dibs on new styles, allowed to purchase numerous multiples (like six of the same wallet) for holiday gifts, allowed to buy multiple LE items... Needless to say his family was angry with my Pretty Woman treatment at high falutin' no where anyone outside of St. Louis has heard of Frontenac store.

Wow, this is exactly what happened to me at LV in Hungary.

Now it is important to mention that in Europe they do judge you a lot based on what you dress like, which I feel is totally wrong. It is much more normal that in the US they mostly service people in sweats the same because honestly who on Earth would want to wear a suit on the weekend but that has nothing to do with how much money they have.

Like I said though I mostly do swear suits, LBD or just dress nicely because I work at a law firm. When I went to the local LV boutique I wore a suit, my DG sunnies and looked well dressed. I mean I may look young because I am slim and not too tall but I am actually 35 and honestly even if I was 20 maybe my parents would want to gift me LV.

Now at the LV store when I asked the SA to show me some styles she said to me "maybe you need to look online to decide what you want". It was extremely rude, very humiliating and I felt like she thought I could afford nothing from there. That was the time I decided I would not go back there and honestly thought of filing a complaint against the SA because I was thinking of getting one of their bags and it was one of those that I loved the most but now I feel that I never want to own an LV bag and instead went to the Burberry boutique next door where they always treated me like royalty no matter if I only looked around for hours or actually bought something too.

I think that looking young has to do with it but I also think that only those boutiques and stores will get my business who treat me really well because why would I want to give them my money if not only they do not make the experience as it should be but make me feel bad?

What still beats me is like I said when I go grocery shopping dressed in suits or even jeans on the weekend and security follows me around when at the same time there are drunken people at the store who would be a lot more likely to be suspect. I guess they must think I am some sort of high end scammer?
