Why Do People Buy Fake Designer Bags Or Fake Designer Anything?

I agree-I live in Vancouver and I would never buy an LV or Gucci bag because there's too many fakes-if I was to buy a real bag it would end up being one with no logo or a small one, like Balenciaga or Miu Miu, because most of those in Van are real. A lot of my friends used to carry fake bags, and I told them to go buy a nice purse at Aldo instead. Especially if you're young, people assume it's fake anyways. The worst are those tacky fake Chanel totes (with the double C's on the side) that EVERYONE has-I remember hearing someone on the bus saying she wanted to buy a fake one, but the girl "accidentally" brought real ones instead to show her, so she had to pay a bit more to get a real one (like, $50?). I can't believe people believe that.
fyi ppl go for more than just looking at bags. and yr attitude is typical capitalistic. u know what u should do, if u have a child rip his/ her skin and make pure human leather bag. u will gain the status of carrying pure leather bag...:yahoo:

:tup:plain and simple. I dont know why folks can't understand that?
hey i really like yr thought and respect it. Very intellectual. What bothers me about real bags is they are made of leather.. and point to be taken is that when people but some animal skin to show around, they are disturbing the entire ecological cylce. instead they should get their family members to donate their skin and then carry bags made of leather and with authentic brand engraved in it....

don't you people see the real problem. It is handbags, mostly carried by women. the gov doesn't take us seriously. Nike and the gov went after the fakesters of air jordans. Microsoft and the gov went after the fake windows. apple and the gov would destroy a fake ipod industry, but fake handbags can and are sold at PTA events, docs offices and at parties/ It is easy, IT'S ILLEGAL just like selling fake ipods is illegal and you should not participate in illegal activity nor support or condon it. Someone showed up at one of our soccer tournaments with a booth selling fake handbags. I immediately went to the top dog and said I would call homeland security if they did not remove the booth from the premises. they didn't get it. I then said, if he was selling fake ipods and iphones would you allow it. No of course not. Homeland security now oversees copyright infringement of goods. and yes, they can take your fake handbag away from you at airport security. buy a well made handbag that is non proprietary or if you prefer to align yourself with a particular brand, then save your money and buy that brand.

So, I am assuming that you wear no animal or vegetable products, eat no living thing, and believe that is protecting the environment? HELLO...synthetics pollute more than natural fibers and everything alive feels pain (they have done studies). Your comments on human skin were offensive to me. There is no comparison and this forum is no place to debate the issue.

This has always been my thought too. Nothing shouts out "I'm cheap" than a fake.

If you can't afford the real-deal, don't bother. IMHO it's more stylish to be individual anyway.

Bravo! I agree!

I'm the only one in my circle who has a serious problem with fakes, apparently, because my girlfriends will hide their fakes when I'm around. They even whisper about their purse parties because they know I'm not only not invited, I'd never darken the door if I were. Part of this is my training as a lawyer (hello, FRAUD anyone??), part of this is my total distaste for low-quality merchandise, and part of it is connection between fakes and child labor, terrorism, absence of taste, etc.......I could go on and on.

I get sick of being preachy with them, but I swear to God, it's just plain ignorant.

wow wonderwoman, your post is nearly impossible to read!

Anyhoo, maybe you should actually read up and research to see exactly what ILLEGAL COUNTERFEITED goods support because yes, it actually DOES support terrorism. not to mention it's intellectual theft and mroe . . . .

I think all y'all are taking this real/fake handbag stuff just a little too far lol they are just handbags it's not life or death. I love handbags real or fake i don't really care. I don't care what happens if i buy a fake one or don't buy a fake one if i like what i see no matter if it's real or fake I'm gonna buy it and enjoy it.You all act like OMG it funds terrorists OMG this OMG that lol you all realize how silly that sounds? Goodness people it's JUST handbags, don't y'all think you are being just a bit overly dramatic about this fake bag stuff. Not if people stop buying fakes its gonna stop all the terrorists or what have ya, drug money will fund that stuff just fine. You may or may not like fake bags for whatever reason but it's not really worth all this acting as if it's some awful sin, they are just bags. Besides millions of people carry fake bags every day and the world aint stopped turning yet and apparently there are far more people who like fake bags and enjoy them, than not because i see far to many people with them. As i said around here people go crazy over them and buy them like crazy and when I'm outta the state i see them all over the place too so it's not just here. lol y'all need to relax. You say people just want everyone to think the fake bags they have are real. What does it matter? So what if they want people to think that or not, who really cares? I know most people got more to worry with than if some bag is fake or real and if they are saying that it's fake or real, most people could care less, because they got far more important things to care about.People might sell fakes on ebay, but so what? not as if it's gonna stop because a few people don't buy fake bags, it's gonna go on no matter what, and all the complaining in the world isn't gonna stop fake bags from existing and it isn't gonna stop them from being sold or enjoyed.Whine whine whine about copyrights and stealing and what not....still aint gonna stop nothing, it isn't gonna stop millions of them from being sold every day.Besides who in the world buys designer bags on ebay anyway? That would just be stupid, and if people are stupid enough to shop on ebay than my guess is they probably deserve to get ripped off, because it's ten times more trouble than going to a store and you are more than likely getting ripped off anyway no matter if it's real or fake....they gotta make money some how so they are gonna sell it for more than they really should, i would know i looked for a car on there once and they was asking 3,000-5,000 more than blue book price so after seeing that i don't worry with ebay anymore because it's all way over priced, and i can walk out my front door and buy a real bag in 20 minutes as opposed to going though the hassle of ebay. Just go to macys or a factory store or whatever and buy your bag, that away you know what your getting is real and never been used, and you don't gotta worry about that, plus it's far less trouble and far less time consuming. I've never bought a thing off ebay and if i want a real designer bag i just go to the store and buy it like a normal person, i just went to macys and bought a new coach bag a few weeks ago. Fake bags at least the ones I've bought anyway are nice and as i said most you can't even tell if it's real or fake, and none of them have tore up in anyway shape or form and I've had a lot of mine for several years, but than again i take care of my stuff (both real and fake) i don't throw it around like a lot of people seem to so that might make some difference too, plus i buy the better quality fakes so that might make some difference as well. I'm not rough on any of my bags and i usually take everything out of them when i get home and wrap them back up in dust covers until I'm ready to use it again and while i have them out i take care of it and see to it i don't get it dirty or set in the floor or what have ya. I guess no matter what i say people will still be petty and argue back and forth about the real/fake thing and make some huge deal outta it which is just silly to act as if it's some horrible sin, just enjoy your bags no matter if they are real or fake, i know i do and i know theres not a thing wrong with it either. The 30 of you or so who post here might think it's horrible but theres a million + people out there who thinks it's just fine or else they wouldn't buy them like i see them bought. As some of you have said theres celebs carrying fakes, theres rich people carrying them and so on, obviously fakes bags aint so horrible or else those people wouldn't be carrying and enjoying them because they can afford real ones if they want them.

To me the whole fake thing is so wrong, but i also feel there is a lack of information out there to tell the public how wrong fake bags are. In vancouver we have this thing in the summer called richmond night market and that place is full of fakes, i think a few times the cops busted them and told them to close down their little stores. And theres a few places at the malls that sell them there all closed. Just recently there was this store that was close by my house (some random little store) selling fake stuff and they got busted it was all over the news .... some1 had reported illegal activity going on there so i think they did a stake out and the ladies who owned that place wouldnt even show their faces on tv even LV hit them with a lawsuit but yeah i guess its alright

.... right wonder woman

I mean whats the point in carrying an obvious fake bag when they look like this ....
xxx we don;t allow members to link to replicas/counterfeits

You can buy a nice guess bag that looks a million times better then walking around with that .. unless those 2% girls out there who don't even know there carrying a fake but the majority of them know its a fake

I will fess up i had a fake cambon tote but i had no idea it was a fake i did some research on the net and right away i got rid of it and bought the real thing .... and it is a million times better its sooo soft

if u cant afford it or think its crazy dont buy it .... i have never seen a good quality fake handbag. Why buy something knowing its fake and rockin it the whole point of chanel and louisV are luxury items and enjoyin the value of it and the quality, taking pride in what you have.

whats wrong with bags from wal mart, sears or target ??? theres nothing at alll wrong with them. :smile1:

Maybe if the Fashion Houses put the prices down on their handbags and merchandise there wouldnt be as many fakes out there
How would you explain fake Coach bags? I think the real ones are affordable enough. Why fake a $100 bag? Why should the fahion houses lower their prices? They aren't charities. They sell exclusivity along with the bag when the pricetag is higher.

As for the main point of this thread. I would never buy a fake. Buying a fake fools nobody. I cringe when I see women at the mall with their mom jeans, white Reeboks and "Chanel" bags. One look at the whole picture sums up that this bag is a fake. Why bother? Why not spend your money on some unknown brand and take pride in it not being a fake? What are people who carry fakes trying to convey? That they have taste or money? I just don't get it. This applies to more than just fake handbags. Why wear a fake Rolex? I wear a real one, but would gladly wear a Seiko rather than a fake Rolex if I couldn't afford it.

I was approached by street vendors in NYC a few weeks ago wanting me to buy a "Balenciaga". I politely declined and then they got pushy. I point blank told them that one more word out of them would get a phone call to the authorities for selling counterfeit products. I also told them not to insult me by assuming I would buy a scummy fake (I was carrying an authentic Chanel GST at the time). They shut up.

Slightly OT I know, but comments like this just seem so. . . ignorant{?} to me.
I think most of our own Mom's wear 'mom jeans' but that doesn't mean they'd carry illegal counterfeits too. :s
I feel comfortable in saying that there's as many fashionable wealthy folks sporting fakes as there are out of fashion moms.
Judging whether someone is carrying a fake based on their clothing choice just doesn't make sense to me.
I see more adorable 17 yr olds carrying fakes than anyone else.

I know you were trying to give an example but most Coach bags are in the $350- $600 range. The $100 dollar coach bags are usually heavily discounted outlet bags. I think it is more about brand recognition as to why the Coach bags are counterfeited. I am sure it only costs them a few dollars to make a fake so a $40 dollar profit per bag or whatever they sell fakes for is worth it for them since they can sell more fake coach bags because it is more widely recognized.
