Silkies, I swore I posted this last night, but the post disappeared?? Strange. I would love to hear your opinons about my first shawl. I am wondering if my first one should be more spectacular, less "classic" looking even though I am kinda a classic girl. I don't need the warmth of a shawl and will wear it scarf like, not as a cape or covering, so should I take her back and exchange for silk? A giant silk? Any thoughts?

Hello Sparklesilab,

When I first saw your photos, I thought "wow!" and I am not a shawl person. :smile1:
I think that your shawl has the perfect combination of neutrals, with just the right pop of the classic Hermes orange.

In the past, I would never buy a scarf unless I loved the pattern. Then, I would see a scarf I had "rejected" looking fabulous on someone else, and a desperate world wide boutique search would begin!

My point being, sometimes the beauty of a scarf (or shawl) is in how it looks when tied. Someone just mentioned MaiTai a few posts ago, and I must admit, she is my idol. If you haven't done so already, look at her blog and try some of the tying methods from her posts.

I think that once you play with your shawl, you can then determine the best course of action. Good luck!

Hi Everyone!
I am loving all of the variations of TR out there! So pretty to each and every one of you!
I love how this scarf looks fantastic in both "silver" and "gold" accents. Me thinks me want more of this one!:graucho:
Bienchen, I still haven't solved the mystery of my H patterned enamel that looks like TR. Maybe Annie needs to join our thread and help us with that one. It sure does look like the scarf, though. Funny, how I got that enamel around four years ago.
Sparklelisab, I love how you show the pattern of your shawl in the last two pics. I understand, though, that if this shawl isn't making you do jumping jacks around your house, it would be best to take her back for something else. Too expensive to serve as a decoration for your closet. Maybe you would have more time to focus only on shawls. (I could see how your gorgeous orange birthday birkin may have "slightly" distracted you from the shawl department!:p) I, too, am eager to check out the washed silk 140s in a couple of weeks. Whatever you decide, I know it will be fabulous!!!
john, Looking NICE in your gavroche! I am usually not as lucky as you when it comes to jury duty. I am usually called on the busiest day of the week, and will have to wait until 5:00.... So far, I haven't been picked.
pegase,Fabulous scarf with the mallards. Great styling, I might add.
lanit, your Grand Fonds is so pretty. I am feeling a bit "fishy". So, here is my GF but in a gavroche secured with a mini black horn MT ring.
Thanks for viewing and have a nice day/evening my scarf buddies!

Thanks Vinia. I can take the 3 hour drive next week to compare this girl to a silk 140. I looked at the Brazil stole and it did nothing for me. Maybe I am just a scarf girl. I can live with that. I appreciate your feedback. I am still thinking. The shawl is gorgeous but maybe not enough?? Still undecided. The thing is, I tried on Feline and Kimono and they were absolute "no's" and they are "fabulous." So is it just me? Brain hurts but back in the not so distant past, a $1200.00 scarf was insane and I could have bought a nice bag. To me, this is a lot of money to not be 100% sure but maybe it is cold feet. ?? Thank you scarfie friend.

Sparkle,
I think your shawl is beautiful, but I agree that it is a lot of money and you need to be sure that you love it. It took me three visits to the boutique to find a shawl that I felt completely right about. Since your are such an Annie Fairve fan, did try Au Fil du Carre shawl? There are some amazing colorways and that way you get a lot of Annie history in one piece. I actually think the shawl is better than the 90 given the amount of detail.

A shawl that I tried that I really wish would have been right for me is the black and red Tendresse Feline scarf. If you haven't tried that colorway, you should see if they could find one for you because I think you would love trying it on, given your love for warm colors. I actually think that will be one of the best of the best this season. And the loving cats do seem to fit your personality. The orange colorway of that one is also gorgeous, but it wasn't right for my complexion. The rose was just right for me.

I am a huge fan of the Ex-L Kim 90's (and own two of them) but the shawls were just too many different colors for me. It is "a-lot-of-look". I think it is fantastic that some people can pull it off, so if you find the right one, the more power to you, but that one might be tricky.

In any case I am sure you will find something that is right for you. You should definitely call ahead and let your SA know so she can put a few things aside for you. You seem to have a SA who will bend over backward for you so it is good that you do not have to rely on the luck of what they happen to have at the moment when you stop in. I know I would be lost without my SA.

WOW! This is perfection. I love how the orange is mostly in the knot, and that you've paired this with an equally intense orange top!! I wanted one of those gavroches, hmm, my Annie Faivre wishlist is growing as the week goes by!

You know, I do think everyone needs 1 gold and 1 silver Tresors, like having two sets of jewelry, silver and yellow gold!! :D

I'm in love with the colors and pattern of this vintage scarf! Perfect for spring and summer!!

Ooooooooo, Fleurs de Lotus by Christiane Vauzelles! I agree, it's a gorgy scarf! I like this quiet peach cw, especially with her outfit, but this blue one is my favorite. I've tried it on IRL and it's a true stunner. Maybe get the peach one for summer and the blue one for winter!

Love the monkey spotting posts and the organized list! This is a good way to be geeky.

RoseUSA, I found that by actively not being afraid to knot and wear a stiff scarf, you can coax it into a somewhat softer disposition :) after a few wears. It almost like scarves need some love to relax. My Reve d'Australie arrived as stiff as a cardboard (amazing, considering its age in scarf-years) and it's slowly getting there after I fought it 3-4 times and won.

frou frou, I will get a better pic of my Astres et Soleils for you! Finesse flatters this design.

Sparkle, a happy belated birthday! :dothewave: About the shawl: I would agree with frou frou's strategy of having a wow traffic-stopping shawl and a wearable flattering one. Yours looks like it belongs in a wearable rather than a wow category but then it doesn't make it any less desirable or practical. Just decide if this shawl makes you shine and if it goes with your wardrobe and your personality rather than asks from you to get whole new ones to match it :)

Lanit, I ADORE this cw of Grands Fonds (this blue and this red/orange together make my knees weak) and I'm seriously thinking that I should get it this year. I live in fear that Musée will somehow run out before I get to it :D. Thank you for modeling it in so much detail on this thread that it turned into one of my grails.

Hello Sparklesilab, I agree that your GM shawl looks a bit static and not vibrant. If this is your first shawl you should absolutely feel good in it right away. If you exchange it, have a look in the men's department. It might hold some surprises for you. I recently purchased Coventures in the marine bleu color and enjoy wearing it very much. Good luck with your decision.

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I am going back to return the beauty who is not for me.

Ladybaga--your gavoche is perfect on you and Euridice said it best.

Bondgirl-you are precious. Thank you for the comments

And thank you all for the birthday wishes. I am a lucky person to have all of you in my life!!

I dunno, Lanit. I think your eyes may be playing tricks on you. I think I may have to side with Scarf Addict here... I'm just not convinced there *is* a monkey in Grands Fonds.

Monkey or no monkey, however, Grands Fonds is an Annie Faivre classic, and it lends beauty to all who wears it: Lanit's scarf, Bienchen's shawl, Ladybaga's pochette, and Sushi Queen's bangle!

Wearing mine today in an attempt to "ape" Hair-mess. I think I need to go back and review her instructions... her's wasn't as a long as mine turn out to be.

The parade of Tresors Retrouves has been amazing!!!

Sparklelisab - After all the drama over your shawl, I just want to step back and appreciate your lovely turquoise beauty of a scarf. Reve de Corail is beautiful in all it's colorways... including....

Fritillary's!! Yes! Another great Corail look, along with the covetable purple version of Au Fil du Carre.

Bond7Girl - Long Live the Geek Girls!!!! :ghi5: And nice words of wisdom too regarding Sparkles' shawl.

Euridice - Beautiful colorway of La Charmante aux Animaux in shawl form :tender:

Bienchen - I enjoyed your blog entry on TR very much. For some reason, that colorway is beginning to remind me of buttercream wedding cake, with little silver dragees sprinkled on it. Yummmmm.

etoile de mer - Precious pochette! Absolutely darling, darlin'.

Metzfan - Ah, Petite Main! Another tPF rarity you are gracing us with! Thank you.

LadyB - You do "pop art" colors so beautifully. The GF provides a great balance for your orange shirt and I really like the lime green art in the background. That was on purpose, wasn't it?!

c18027 - "Then, I would see a scarf I had "rejected" looking fabulous on someone else, and a desperate world wide boutique search would begin!" :lolots: Yup.

John - Nice pun! LOL! Congrats on getting out of Jury Duty. I, too, love Le Tartot. Such a fascinating scarf, and one that ties so well.

Pegase - Whoa, Mare aux Cannards isn't one you see every day. Thank you so much for sharing! And I so enjoy Stravinsky's music. I hope to see the ballet live one day. But I imagine this is true for a lot of people - I can never listen to The Rite of Spring without thinking of the dinosaurs in Walt Disney's Fantasia :D.

I'm sure I'm not the first person to make this connection, but on further reflection, I can't help but see Wilma Flintstone's "pearl" necklace in my silver Reve de Corail LOL :D

Yabba dabba doo!!!!!!
