LOL! I was looking down into my scarf seeing if I could find the monkey that sparklelisab posted, and it occured to me that would make a silly picture---the monkey-hunting pose!!

YES!!! I know that pose!!!! :lolots:

You look like you're about to go rob a bank. "Give me all your money! I have a scarf habit to support!"

Silkies, I swore I posted this last night, but the post disappeared?? Strange. I would love to hear your opinons about my first shawl. I am wondering if my first one should be more spectacular, less "classic" looking even though I am kinda a classic girl. I don't need the warmth of a shawl and will wear it scarf like, not as a cape or covering, so should I take her back and exchange for silk? A giant silk? Any thoughts?

Oh, I'm so sorry you're having seconds thoughts about your new shawl. I agree that it's too much money to have sitting in your closet if you're not going to love it and use it. It's going to make you feel bad. There are too many other delectable goodies awaiting you at the scarf counter.

For myself, I've never been very crazy about Hermes' strap/belt/stirrup/bit/bridle motifs, though other love them, of course. They usually feel very static to me.

Good luck with whatever you decide, Sparkles. At least you still have beautiful Blossom!! :smile1:

Sparkle, I DO think this is awesome! I think this is a perfect first shawl, actually. I didn't realize how amazing this design looks when worn!! Seriously. I think this is classic Hermes and has a wow factor. It sounds like maybe you won't end up getting a bunch of these, and it seems if you have just one, a classic that still packs a punch (cool design when worn in different ways, AND the amazing colors that go so well with your bags) is the best way to go.

My absolute favorite shawls are the Eperon dor from SS2011. The best is the most subtle and neutral (and I am a bright color, high contrast fanatic!), the second best is still neutral but richer gray, potiron, and dark red. I generally don't do the classic equestrian look, but I am nuts about this shawl, it's so perfect. So WEARABLE!!!

My first shawl was actually Kachinas, which is awesome, but I did have some second thoughts or at least qualms. Very bright. Would it go with anything? Etc. I next bought the Washingtons Carriage in purple and greens, which is not too bright and looks awesome when folded and tied with those wheel designs. I felt a lot better about this one!!

I think maybe you should wait a few days and see if you are still feeling these qualms. It's OKAY that Kimonos is not for you. You can certainly exchange your shawl if that's what's best for you, but if I were your stylist I would urge you to keep it!! :smile1:

Thanks Vinia. I can take the 3 hour drive next week to compare this girl to a silk 140. I looked at the Brazil stole and it did nothing for me. Maybe I am just a scarf girl. I can live with that. I appreciate your feedback. I am still thinking. The shawl is gorgeous but maybe not enough?? Still undecided. The thing is, I tried on Feline and Kimono and they were absolute "no's" and they are "fabulous." So is it just me? Brain hurts but back in the not so distant past, a $1200.00 scarf was insane and I could have bought a nice bag. To me, this is a lot of money to not be 100% sure but maybe it is cold feet. ?? Thank you scarfie friend.

I agree that the GM's are just way too darn expensive to not absolutely LOVE it. What I am seeing is the proportions of the colors are almost even throughout and perhaps the subject matter might also not be engaging you? I felt the same way when I brought home a Sangles GM last year that looked great on in the store and with what I was wearing that day, and after looking at it with my wardrobe, I found the pattern and colors not as versatile as I thought. Your first GM should be one you know you will reach for a lot. My first one was the La Femme shawl in the anise/noisette colorway. I loved the shawls colors, proportions, subject, etc and still love it. Hope this helps. If you are already having second thoughts it is best to wait for the right one. BTW - your Tresors and Corail are magnificent. So envious of those that can wear this turquoise. And I want to add that as much as I loved the EL Kimono, none of the twill colors worked for me - but at the GM size it is a better scale, so perhaps next year will offer the Tresors at the GM scale? I notice H does sometimes do this with their popular selling twills and move to the GM size the following season. I am still on the fence on the ELK, and waiting to see the CMSC perhaps before making a leap for one.

froufrou, john, sushiq - thank you - you all made me smile on a very hectic day.

John
- what great combinations - I really like that orange shirt! I often borrow DH's shirts - and would steal this one for sure! Looks great with Ballet Russe.

Fritillary - your two blue Faive silks will look great together! They have similar colors!

SushiQ - Lovely GF Bracelet - I adore the Scale of the Scales!

c18027 - welcome and thanks for the Jardin d'Eden detail - may we please see the silk flat to admire?

Tango - thanks for another list - you are so great at this! Le Tarot is an interesting design - the pinks are perfect for spring.

Rose - what a cute blue monkey.

Pegase - Cannards looks great on you and for welcoming spring.

Vinia - I better run and get a Tresors before they are all gone! It is one of two designs I liked for the season. The colorways have not quite been decided upon though. Yours is classic!

I am posting my Grand Fonds and still looking for the simian, but I am feeling like Tango that my eyes are starting to play tricks on me. Does this detail snap almost look like a monkey albeit an abstract one? Modeled with two precious friendship Kumihimo braided bracelets crafted and gifted by a very dear friend across the globe.

Le Tarot...the colorway being the first of the 3 Tarot's that I acquired, but this particular scarf being a replacement for the original which was inexplicably lost some years ago. This, as well as black/white/gold Astrologie and a navy, white and orange Kachinas have evolved into my three "go-to" scarves.

As for muni court jury duty, I was scarfless and the courtroom was defenseless (i.e., defendants and counsel did not show, so we were dismissed).

John in DFW

John, handsome as always, but I think that expression says "yay, no jury duty and now I can wear my scarf!" or something similar. you look very merry.

Sparkle, first of all, a belated happy birthday and congrats on your beautiful new B! As to the shawl, I agree with you that it's not doing that much for you in that configuration. I would definitely go back and try the silk 140's or something else. At any rate, if you can't find a cashmere/silk shawl you like, why not wait? There are always new designs. The A/W shawls will be out in what, May? or June? Sometimes, it's best to wait. As many have said, it's a lot of money to spend without being TOTALLY excited about the shawl.

Sushi queen: the GF bangles are wonderful, always makes me smile.

Lanit: thank you. I agree, the Trésors would make an elegant shawl. You have a great selection of AF designs... and your GF is priceless :)

Frou frou: sans mots? or DH finished early with the ivy? LOL

Euridice: Spectacular La Charmante! Well worth waiting for. Your Trésors is beautiful on you. And thank you for your kind words re my Trésors, I will update my blog later this week with a few more looks. I am miffed that I can no longer upload directly from my computer.

Heatherlite: Ladybaga has an enamel that could be a dead ringer for Trésors; I thought it was this design but apparently it is not from this season. Maybe she knows more by now as we were all baffled.

John: Ballet Russe in orange/green looks wonderful.

FritillaryB: aren’t the corners on your first scarf adorable?!!!

Sparklelisab: gorgeous turquoise Reve de Corail, no wonder you fell in love. As to your shawl, I think it looks good on you but if you have any reservations at all, then return and wait until something sings loud and clear.

TangoTosca: I hear you on the optometrist. And thank you for the close ups.

Hair-mess: thank you. This scarf ties so well.

Pegase: very fresh c/w of Mare au Canards[/B

]Vinia: the jewellery really stands out on your dark c/way

Hi Sparklelisab
I do like this myself , I like having one wow shawl [La femme] and one low key one [Classic Brins d'Or] the latter orange beige and red . I love it as it's not 'in your face' , and on many days I like an uber-casual , not trying too hard look .
Having said that , the whole beauty of the cashmere silk GM for me is the warm luxury it offers, and the multiplicity of wearing options.
Seems to me you won't be using it to its potential unless you decide to move to Northern Europe !
I can see you in a Giant Twill .
Heaven !
Pysche ? Fleurs Indiennes ?
Hope it helps hearing our very honest opinions !

Dear friends, Vinia, Frou Frou, Bienchen, Euridice, Tango, Fritillary, Lanit, Metzfan, and if I forgot someone, please forgive me. Thank you so much for your honesty. I wasn't looking for the obligatory compliment and I appreciate your thoughts about the girl who is going back. I am a "classic" dresser but I like what Tango said about the movement of this shawl being static. It is a gorgeous scarf. No argument, but for me, I need more passion, vitality, and living things on my scarves. I missed this until now. And the Kimono I tried--I'm sure it was just the wrong cw for me because I just saw cw 1 on the thread dedicated to this shawl, and she screamed at me. So, I will take the journey back to Hermes. Knowing what I have learned will be invaluable for later decisions. Thank you my dear Silkies!

Loving all your Annies. Loving the monkey puzzles .
I'm not going to be able to comment much or post my lovelies until Saturday if I'm lucky .
Want this topic to go on for ever.....

Bienchen I only wanted to say hi you look great !
