Which designer bags are ACTUALLY handmade?

I think because "handmade" has so many meanings for so many different people, and many of the famous brands also have very special meaning for so many, that it is fair to consider this another one of those questions that is so subjective, and so closely tied to the very personal area of belief, that if it is "handmade" to you, then that is what is important!

As a purely practical and largely unrelated to "brands" or anything else in the world of ready-to-wear, it is certainly possible to hire an artist to make a one-of-a-kind bag to your specifications - or theirs - whose construction will involve the actual hands of that artist constructing the bag, with or without machinery, but entirely without label or affiliation with a specific company.

I thought most Luxury Brand handbags were more or less Handmade, but the term handmade is relative. ;) No hand bag is made without some equipment, and I'm unsure of when the amount of equipment involved make the handbags unqualified for the "handmade" standard. =-P

I have own three bags that I know to be handmade - 2 Hermes Birkins in different colours, leathers and sizes and a beautiful bespoke Ebury by Anya Hindmarch that is inscribed with a romantic message (not from me to myself!) on the inside - I adore the Hermes, but the bespoke Ebury is the best, partly because of the person who gave it to me (actually, scratch that - he realised I loved it, researched the style, leather, hardware, placed a special order, drafted an inscription, arranged for delivery on a particular date and watched me melt as I opened the box which bore my name and the bag's unique number). Sigh and

I think there's also a difference between handmade and handstitched? Isn't Hermes supposed to be handstitched?

I think most Italian and French made R-T-W designer bags are (accurately) described as handmade.

For example, Chloe bags are described as 'handmade by master artisans' and most (if not all) of them are handstitched, or partially handstitched, as well.

I think in the case of the ones with cotton twill linings, the linings are machine stitched (by hand, if you KWIM?), though.

Rebecca Minkoff, and SHIH are both handmade.

I cannot imagine Louis Vuitton bags are handmade, given the volume of bags the company produces. Maybe as you mentioned above, just only certain bags? My Vernis bags don't appear to be handmade.
