LV does have quite a number of workshops. I read somewhare that they use more "efficient" methods than hermes though, and that also explains the difference in price. Hermes factories were said to resemble "14th century workshops", whether that is flattering or not is not up to me to decide for ya. :wlae: LV's sunnies says handmade in france. THey are also hand polished, and the quality difference from chanel, dior, gucci and other made in italy sunglasses is noticeable at once if you touch the LVs. Do Hermes produce sunnies? Are they nice?

They can use the word efficient if they wish, but the quality of Hermes is still superior in my opinion. I think the word that should be substituted for efficient is manufactured when it comes to LV.

I don't know if Hermes sells sunglasses. I don't remember seeing any when I last went.

I doubt LV bags are less handmade than other bags in the same price range which includes bottega veneta and chanel. Hermes also has the same person working one one purse from start to beginning. (at least so it's rumoured), point is, Hermes is different from most of the other brands.

GGA, I have never heard of that designer you mentioned. It is worth looking into though. :smile1:

Henry Cuir

Henry cuir is the smaller, handmade, boutique line for Henry Beguelin. They have a few boutiques in Japan, one in Milan, one in Paris, and are only available through Barney's in the US. I love them. They have a more rugged, overtly handmade look to them, and their assembly has an almost origami-like aesthetic. I don't know how they appeal generally, but they seem to suit me.

I'm sure LV and Chanel are made with SOME mechanical help but if you look at even two bags of the same style, there will always be variations in stamping placement, stitching, depth of the stamps etc. If they were just constantly made on an assembly line, each and every bag would look exactly identical. So I think they do have some mechanical help but the majority of it is done by hand.

I dont believe that LV is all hand-made...its partly but more and more there are rumored to be cutting down on it...:s

The only purse to be hand-made with craftsman that are trained to make that particular piece from start to finish is Hermes....

But I still dont like Hermes bags....but they are made very well...but since its just leather, the longevity does depend....

I love LVs Canvas...its very durable and is less worrisome than leathers to me...

I think they DO all look alike personally. I don't see these variations that people mention. The stitching on my bags appears to be uniform.

I think the type of leather you get makes a difference. Many Hermes leathers I think have more durability than the LV canvas.

I think both LV and Chanel use machines to put together the raw material (eg. zippers, hardware, LV's canvas has a vinyl coating done by a machine most likely...etc.). Once this step is done, the ASSEMBLY of these parts is handmade. They may use a sewing machine, but there is always a real person operating each individual one to make a common bag (eg. mono speedy).
As for LV's RTW, trunks, customized orders, and sunglasses they are all completely hand-made/assembled, ie I doubt they would weave the fabric from raw cotton or silk and cutting the wood is done by a machine but still operated by a real person:yes:
