Which brand have you moved on from and why?

I've definitely moved on from MK. Charles Gross can just really change your mind on MK. The brand just copies too much of other designers that it comes off as cheap. I see it as for someone who cannot afford the high end range and it really is pathetic sometimes. I think there are other brands that offer much more quality bags. If you haven't watched Charles on youtube, you have to. He's obsessed with bags like we all are and he has really good opinions on things.

I've also kind of moved on from Prada. I'm not sure why but I'm not as attracted to it anymore as I was before.

Lv I'm over all the mono prints. I like some of the leather pieces but find they're not really classics as a Chanel flap is

I agree with the bolded!

I forgot to add Prada. I still have a couple pieces from them but after their Fairy line (which I liked), I fell out of love. Many of their items are too trendy for me and I can't see myself wearing their items long term.

This new Coach makes almost nothing I would buy-both price and design are the reason. Got small crossbody and a pair of shoes, one wallet. But I do not rule them out yet. I used to like Cole Haan but they have changed and not for good. They are moving to a very strange direction to be honest. Definitely lost their craft and chic appeal.
Moved to Tumi. Love it.
I'm with you on Cole Haan. They used to be my "go to" brand for good quality at a great price. IMHO, the decline started when Nike sold CH to a private equity firm in 2012. The company started using thinner, cheaper leather in its handbags, and probably put more resources into developing and promoting footwear instead of bags. Unfortunately, CH shoes now pinch my toes and/or chafe my ankles, so I'm leaving behind the line for both shoes and handbags. :annoyed:

Dooney and Burke!

(Warning: Rant ahead!)

About six years ago, I made my first and only Dooney purchase. I bought a large tote - it had such a cute print and was just the right size, and looked sturdy as anything. What a pretty utilitarian bag, or so I thought!

I started wearing it, and a few days later it rained and the Dooney suddenly reeked of fish. I mean REEKED! I was shocked but I thought maybe it would just be a one-off. When I bought it, and when the weather was dry, it didn't smell, so it seemed ok. Every time it got humid or rained, the thing just STUNK. Two-off? No. Three-off? No. Months passed and the thing kept smelling like fish again and again (wake up to a humid day and a closet that smells like fish - wonderful!). It was unwearable on any day, because I'd never know if the weather was going to change and my bag would suddenly stink to high heaven. There's nothing like walking around smelling fish, having people think you smell like fish, and wondering if everything inside your bag or even your clothes will start to smell like fish.

I didn't want to throw out a basically brand new bag, so I put it aside (not in my home) for over two years (maybe 3 years) as a last ditch effort to air it out. I found it and it actually DID seem to have aired out, even though it had stunk so bad before I thought it never would (as if it had been made out of fish leather)! I started to use it. After a handful of uses, the stitching on where one of the handles attaches to the bag started to unravel. Soon enough the top portion of where that handle met the bag came loose. I got home one day to find I'd been walking around with a bag that had about 1.5 inches of handle that's supposed to be attached to the bag hanging loose, and there was a long, bright yellow ragged thread hanging beside it. Some other stitching on the bag started coming somewhat loose and ragged as well. It was once again unwearable, and still barely had been used at all. This bag was supposed to be sturdy but it was the opposite. I've had very delicate bags last through hundreds of uses and this bag I wore, what, 10 times? And many of those few times were bad experiences.

High cost per wear, not only in $ but in terms of hassle/upset!! I put it aside to get the stitching redone, because I still liked the print and the size, but haven't bothered. I know why, too: It seems like a total waste of time. If I did bother, probably some other stitching would come undone next, or there'd be a heavy rain and the fish smell would come back. Still, it's so hard for me to throw out a bag that still has been barely used and LOOKS like it would be such a useful bag. I also feel I can't sell it to recoup any of my cost, because what am I going to say? "Note: this bag has been barely used, but stitching has already come undone. This bag might have aired out but it might also start stinking of fish again, I'm not sure, so don't blame me if you open your package on a humid day and say I didn't warn you that you were getting a bag that reeks like a fish market. No, despite what you might assume, I've never used it as a chum bucket."

I was so frustrated with this bag, which was a complete waste of money and time, that I have not, and will not, buy Dooney and Burke again.

I moved on from Coach and Kate Spade. I got tired of the bags that would only be good for one season, cuz a new color or pattern would be the one to have. Also hated that the bag I just bought would be half off in 2-3 months.

In that light, mulberry.
As someone brilliantly stated about this new bag design, on mulb fb page:

Their website's coming soon jewelry is the stuff of jumble sale nightmares, imo.:yucky:
Disembodied deer head pieces might convince me there is no god.

I'm sure that deerhead ring wouldn't get in the way or anything.......:wtf::facepalm:

You're much more patient than I, at the first 'whiff' I would have returned that bag. What an awful experience.

Yep. That 2012 year was a disastrous change. I still have a few pairs of shoes/ boots and and couple bags I love, but those are from long long time ago when I used to enter a CH store and I wanted to buy everything. CH shoes are a real joke now with pvc lining and thinnest leather I have ever seen. How is this thin leather suppose to keep shape?! My sneakers from 2009 are still in a very good shape, this spring I bought and returned the whole order of sneakers-they are unwearable. My hobby wears CH sneakers for the fourth year in a row, he just doesn't take them off and they are fine, new sneakers (exactly same style ! ) bought in 2014 look like they been put in a washer to spin for an hour, leather is so thin ..
Tumi is soon to be a part of Samsonite family. I am worried and buying Tumi bags now for the future use. God knows what the change will be.... Samsonite accessories all have pvc handles and are ugly as hell.

OMG, I'm so boring I've never moved on really :hrmm:
but
some brands have obviously moved on from me
Prada
BV (with a few exceptions, what's with all the chains and fuss?)
MJ (I couldn't find a better made, more sumptuous bag in the 00s)
Chloe (although maybe 2 bags that break my back are enough :-s)

Lol at brands moving on from you. Love that. We have some overlap. For me:

Marc Jacobs: This one hurts. I was a huge fan. When I heard the MBMJ line would close, I thought it was to reinvigorate the main line. Instead, the new Marc Jacobs bags are closer to the MBMJ generally, and though I understand the choice to make more affordable bags and concentrate on thecontemporary market (I also know he still makes a few higher end bags), it’s not the same. I want my scrumptious lambskin bags…

Prada: The wallet-on-chains still kind of call to me, but otherwise I just don’t think the quality or designs are where they used to be.

Ferragamo: Quality decline, too. However, their bags lately have been calling to me for the first time in a while and seem to have maybe improved, so I’m rethinking this one.

Chanel: New service rules, ever rising prices when the quality doesn't compare to older bags, maybe even oversaturation...

Reading through this thread reminded me of Cole Haan, yes their quality is now quite poor! I have exactly one pair of heels from them bought a long time ago with leather sole you name it. It has held up well. Nowadays I look at their lineup and it just looks cheaper and made with rubber and all those synthetics. I even hate their new logo, I loved that cursive font in the old days.

I won't completely close the door on any brand. Sometimes they shake things up with a new designer or POV and I'm interested in again.
But I do have brands that I used to buy regularly that are on my "ignore - nothing to see here" list

Coach - This was a family owned company with superb quality items. Fast forward and they've been sold and resold. Bag quality over that time went into a downward spiral. It's better now but current quality is still soooo not worth the price. And the styles are very much not me. I don't want snoopy, dinosaurs or anything else plunked on an otherwise boring bag. I'd only buy the few things I like at a crazy discount like 75% off or not at all.
• Prada - I was a die hard Prada fan. But the brand took a hit when everybody and their brother started making sorta kinda saffiano bags. It made Prada saffy feel less special despite it being far higher quality. More importantly, however, the designs the last few years have been meh at best.
• Michael Kors - the main line quality has plummeted and most of the bags aren't simply inspired, they are rip offs of designer styles. Disappointing.
• Mulberry - this is a weird one. I have never bought a Mulberry bag but was moving towards the brand. Then whoops! Huge change and the brand die hards start screaming. So now I'm running away. I wish I could have gotten in while the getting was good. But based on reactions I've read, I'm not sticking a toe in those waters.

But, like I said, I may buy from any of these if the bag is right. Never say never.

For me it seems to be,
1. Coach because of their pricing (too much to pay for what you get IMO.
One of my favorite compliments when wearing a bag is when someone can't easily recognize it.

2. LV because I got tired of seeing the logo pieces coming and going. Also just didn't feel comfortable wearing them. For the price I paid for coated canvas I felt silly.

3. Dooney & Bourke because I grew bored of their designs.....sadly because I used to love them.

These are 3 designers I don't really buy from anymore......which are yours and why?

Coach goes on my list too for bag brands that I have 'outgrown'. Another one is Longchamp. Just these 2 for now.

I would never recommend Charles Gross to anyone. He has no real fashion knowledge. His videos have gotten worse, and he hardly reviews bags anymore. He's a poser.

I lost all respect for him when he went to Michael Kors, bought a bunch of handbags to "review", and then returned them knowing full well that he would never keep them. Those sales associates work on commission, and I was disgusted at what he did. Besides, in order to review anything, you have to actually use the product. On top of that, he HATES MK with a passion so his opinion is already biased. The brand was never going to get a fair shot. I REALLY dislike Kanye West so I will tell anyone in a minute to ask someone else's opinion about his music as I am unable to do so. I don't even have him on my blog. Not fair to him or my audience.

Back to the question.

1. Prada. I loved their nylon line from years ago. Lost interest after that. I never liked the saffiano line at all. Too business lady to me.
2. Fendi. I used to love the monogram baguette and Mama bag from the SJP era. I still have mine. Now? Nothing. Again, the new bags are a little too business lady.
3. Cole Haan. I used to love his bags as well. They're blah now.
4. Marc Jacobs. I still own two multi pocket bags and a mini Stella. Just wore the Stella yesterday. Still want a Stam. They've become too juvenile.
5. Kate Spade. I must have a thing for nylon because I LOVED the nylon Sam (hate that I sold it). I still own two of her nylon bags and carry them during bad weather. The brand has become too quirky and whimsical.
