I usually put my purse in the passenger seat next to me so I can keep a close eye on her. When my husband and I are together, my purse fits in the same seat with me. Just like to have her close.

I drive a convertible in the summertime, so if I am alone in the car with the top down, my bag goes on the passenger seat. I am always afraid that someone will grab it out of the back, I am truly paranoid about my bags. I even strap them in at the supermarket. If the top is up, it goes behind me. If my car is full of people, someone has to sit with it on their lap. My bags never go on the floor.
YEP! front pasenger side floor- if my sis is riding she flings my bag in the backseat and this BURNS ME UP!!!!!!!!!!!!I know this sounds strange, but the police have said it's wise not to leave it on your front seat. Thieves have been known to smash windows at red lights just to grab your bag. It's happened here in Atlanta.
When I'm working my 2nd job no purses allowed so I have to put it in my trunk before I leave the house bcuzz I dont want anyone seeing me do this on the premises.
What's stopping someone from snatching it @ a red light when your top is down? Then you won't have a purse.
when I had my convertible I always had my bag in the front seat. I never thought about someone taking it.
I guess I am not paranoid at all. I figure if they want it they will get it regardless and my insurance will take care of it after that.
Or maybe you live and travel in a low crime area. I didnt know simple safety precautions was being paranoid.

When I'm driving with someone in the passenger seat, I usually put my bag either in the back seat or on top of the parking break (between the two front seats). If it's in the back seat, i'll put my cell phone in the cup holder so it's handy just in case.

Mine is always in the passenger seat unless someone is with me, then it's in the middle of the backseat ... well within reach if I need to grab it. I could never put it on the floor. Infact, just yesterday I was with my boyfriend and my niece and nephew were in the backseat and he put my new LV up behind the backseat under the back window! Where it's dusty! 
Let's just say he won't be doing that again.
ETA: I'm very careful of not having the car window down too far on the passenger side if it's sitting in that seat ... just so no one can grab it through the open window.

After reading this thread, I decided to find something for my bag in my car (instead of putting my bag on the floor). I finally found it: bag hooks! Here are a couple of pics with my Balenciaga City (first pic with flash, second without):
I like them. I still put my bag on the passenger seat if no one else is in the car but otherwise I'll hang my bag behind the driver's seat like so. Just wanted to share this with everyone.

I put it on the seat of the passenger side. and anyone who is sitting there[...ANYONE!] gets to hold the bag, otherwise I put it in the backseat.
Otherwise I put the bag on the floor (I wash my car once a week and rarely have passengers in the backseat)
I like that idea that Jessica Simpson has in putting it to her left. that would make it much easier for me to get money out for the tolls

I usually drive alone so I usually put it on the seat next to me. However, when there's someone else in the car, I put inbetween the two front seats..on my armrest thingy.
Doesn't it fall when you are making turns? It always ends up on the passenger side's floor

Sorry to double post, but...
Question: Why hang it behind you? Isn't it easier to place these hooks on the passenger's car, this way you can easily access your bag?
Where did you purchase these hooks? They seem like great stocking stuffers!
