Where do reputable eBay sellers get their Louis Vuitton bags from?

Okay everyone, brace yourself, I do not want to be sued...so let me preface this with "this was told to me by a reputable LV insider." Here's the deal. Prostitution is legal in Hong Kong. Allow me to clarify, pimping is illegal. Some of our "authentic LV Hong Kong sellers" get their bags from escorts. You see, these ladies tell their customers to pay them in Louis Vuitton bags. These ladies are quite business savvy and they know that they can then consign or sell their LV bag to one of the "authentic LV Hong Kong sellers" and end up making more money than if they accepted money from their customer. Not always pretty, but certainly interesting isn't it. Now remember ladies and gentlemen you are not being paranoid to clean the heck out of your used LV bag when it arrives from Hong Kong! Are baby wipes enough!!??

No way, I think it's a far reach to say that all LV sellers get their bags from prostitutes. For one thing, prostitution is definitely NOT legal in Hong Kong!
However, to give this story the benefit of the doubt, I know that there are many young girls, especially in Japan, that will prostitute themselves for designer stuff. Asian culture is very materialistic, for lack of a better word. Everyone is into designer labels (males and females) and especially because everyone can recognize/identify designer bags and clothing nobody will buy fake (way embarassing!) A lot of teenage girls feel the pressure to own LV and other labeled goods in order to be popular or fit in, but many cannot afford it. Therefore they will ditch school and will meet up with older businessmen and trade sex for designer goods. This usually occurs in karoake bars where they can rent rooms for very cheap on the hour. It's gotten to be such a huge problem in Japan.
My friend who grew up in Japan told me that fathers with teenage daughters refuse to be seen with them during school hours, especially if the daughter is wearing her school uniform and he is dressed in business wear. Everyone will assume prostitution is going on. Her dad would not even pull her from school to take her to the doctor!
She told me also that if her high school principal suspected a girl of cutting class to hook for bags (i.e. she was absent and the next day she is carrying a new bag) he would make them show a receipt in their name.
When I heard this from my friend, I was shocked and sad that young girls could subject themselves to this for the sake of owning LV to fit in. It's amazing how different cultures are just on the other side of the world isn't it?

I dont want to sound obnoxious but I think that "story" you heard is false, and maybe a "urban myth". IMO the story about fake bags being made with authentic hardwear sounds more belivable than your story.

Wow, I don't think you could have used a broader brush ...

Well I think Let-trade is a consignment store. I dont believe they sell the bag from the prostitute. Just like others said that ladies in HK are very fashionable, they like to change their style and buy latest bag and then sell it to get money to buy the new one.

But, to answer about the prostitution is legal in HK....here is the answer from the website.

Prostitution is NOT illegal. BUT living on earnings of prostitution and control over persons for purpose of prostitution is illegal. During the arresting actions from the police to the sex industry, they would take ALL people inside the flat to the police station. It might take the whole night. Also, having sex with girls under 16 is a serious crime.

About Hong Kong

Its quite shock for me to find out those statement in the website tho' :shrugs:

Whether prostitution is legal in HK or not, I just think the 'story' about reputable LV resellers getting some of their bags from escorts is just far-fetched. Let's not forget HK is one of the richest cities in the world, there are plenty of ladies who can afford to buy expensive bags and later on getting rid of them for newer bags. Let's also not forget HK is one of the most crowded cities in the world, people don't have that much closet space, why not unload the stuff you don't use?

Obvioutly eboutique is extremely wealthy to afford everything they have. They most likely sell it for more $ to stay rich and keep the business going if you want to call it that. I know I would do it.

Would it never occur to anyone that there is nothing sinister in the way ebay sellers get LV items? They simply go to the boutique & buy hard to get items that people in some countries cannot get e.g. the Miroir bags at retail price then sell them for a profit on ebay, simple explanation. If an item is really limited the buyers will pay way over retail just to get it.
As for anyone selling on ebay they are either making money or extra money because they need it or are perhaps funding their own bag habit from the extra they earn, designer bag addiction is expensive, again nothing sinister.
