What’s your unpopular Hermes opinion?

UO… H standard silk scarves feel and look cheap. They feel like rough bed sheets. They do not drape well. They make a synthetic sound when you are handling them… like the sound of opening up curtains quickly.

Not talking about their cashmere blends or muslin (they are great)….just their basic silk scarves.

PS. An opinion, unpopular or not - people who are easily offended and get defensive when they read UOs …. Should really avoid reading the UO thread
It’s my understanding that H puts some sort of fabric stiffener (spray starch?) on their silks to make them this way on purpose. The H scarfies prefer it and there have even been some heated debates over in the scarf care thread about it, with links to how owners can wash at home and get that stiffness back. (Dry cleaners use a similar product, so the argument is over wash versus dry clean.) I, for one, am on the fence.

A related unpopular opinion is that owners can get rid of this stiffness by simply cold washing their silks in the sink with Woolite/Dreft, rolling in a towel to remove as much water as possible, hanging to dry and ironing on the silk setting; this gives silks that lightness you describe. (Ducks for cover from all the scarfies who disagree!)

I love everything from H I have purchased and I love buying items directly from the store because it verifies it is authentic, I like getting new things, and their items are not discounted in the secondary market. I can stand by the quality and the playful designs of Hermes. I think they have more to offer than just bags, but I do not think their practice of being dishonest about bag inventory is OK. and I wish we could just shop online because the store doesnt seem to want us. people say it's hard being an SA because they're under pressure because there's too many of us demanding things all day. loosen the pressure, let our online profiles apply to the ~totally nonexistent~ tied selling, erm I mean, Sales Associate Loyalty Journey.

I think I understand why they do things the way they do (~exclusivity~, to get you in the store for more sales in other areas because once you get your dream bag you'll be gone, to have less dream bags flooding the secondary market, it's a 'half truth' not outright lie if the bags are there but are not approved for the undesirable walk in to purchase, they don't trust you not to be a reseller until you get to know the SA and store manager, etc. and rewarding loyal locals who can visit the store often) but it still bothers me that they are dishonest to customers. I personally wanted to take their replies at face value, since "they're lying" is a negative assumption and we will never know either way. the leather shortage explanation did make sense to me initially since EVERYTHING was low in stock during lockdown, as well as low inventory at small stores in dense areas (Palo Alto, La Jolla), but it seems that people understand it to mean there are bags just not for the the "undesirables" and they even find it amusing (since they're narrating the posts as the person being shown the bags while someone else who was lied to left feeling upset)

my unpopular opinion is not finding that part amusing. I almost hope it's something social media made up to make it sound like too much of a hassle to blot out some of the competition.

Here’s my latest uo. The Kelly lariat chain necklace gives bondage / S&M vibes. It’s one thing to have just the turn lock like on the classic Kelly bangle but add on the hideous chain there’s something a bit off putting and even dark about this necklace. Perhaps H thinks it’s kind of a tongue in cheek joke on clients given H is in command and control of who gets offered bags.

OMG don't get me started on the Loop Pendant necklace.

This can't even be an UO, it's just too close to a... you know... 😳 :giggle:

They’re playing off of the “paper clip “ style chain that’s become very trendy. I’m generally not a fan of Hermes FJ. I prefer more classic FJ houses for the price pint (Cartier, VCA, Bulgari).

I can’t tell either.
Thanks for being the first to ask. Lol
I’m assuming a ring to enhance a certain aspect of sexual pleasure ETA: I don’t know the scale of this pendant though since I have not seen it in real life.

Unpopular opinion:
I don’t mind marks that remind me of good memories or a bag that has been through interesting adventures

I have been using my BBK longue wallet as a clutch (mainly bc I have it and it’s too heavy as a SLG). I put it down on an outside table on a trip, and it must have picked up some kind of condensation bc it kind of stuck and when I peeled it off, it lifted off an irregular patch of top coat shaped like an island (maybe 4 inches by 3 inches across).

I think the island shaped mark is kind of a souvenir, but I do know the box leather will spa perfectly if I decide to do that. The reason why this is unpopular is bc members seem to want pristine bags.

Note: I’m actually quite careful with my stuff and spa regularly, so maybe I’m just becoming more laid back in my old age. I did wipe it off immediately, so no water blisters

I love @880’s post because in my presumably unpopular opinion it evidences a good balance in enjoying Hermes treasures. There’s no irresponsible abuse here, it’s not a story about using a box wallet as a frisbee to play fetch with the dog. Rather, it’s about using a beautiful item, acknowledging a mishap and recognizing that it can be fixed, and moving on with enjoying the day.
