What’s your unpopular Hermes opinion?

This is not really a knock on Hermes but for me shopping at Hermes is like going into a high end thrift store. You just never know what you’ll find that day. The “game” to me is really that randomness of this whole thing. You walk in looking for a pair of sneakers and walk out sans sneakers but with a set of dinner plates you’ve been eyeing for 3 months.

It actually appeals to my personality bc I kind of like the randomness of it all. I’m always surprised at what I find that I never knew about.

Unpopular opinion, not fond of their RTW, find it a bit mature looking most of the time. Same with shoes, hit or miss with them.

Also, some scarves are quite hideous and I don’t understand the fascination with them!

I realize this is something many disagree with, but just my lousy opinion on this brand.

I also am on the charms are not worth it bandwagon. One time my SA showed me a black Pegase in black leather and black croc. I told the SA I’m good before the SA fully unwrapped it. To buy something that expensive to hang on a purse seems so wild to me! Lol!

Agree. Some scarves are beautiful to wear, some are beautiful as a design but not easily wearable and many are completely hideous. And I will probably get shot for saying it but while beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I will never understand how some wearers “match” their scarves to their outfits.

I'm sure I must have read a similar opinion somewhere on this thread but I'll restate it:
  • It is terribly sad that the given situation with the supply of and demand for many H bags has rendered so many consumers unable to make a decision by themselves. When offered a bag, many turn to TPF to ask if they should accept it...they want to know if it is a 'popular' bag that they should accept because they may not get another offer, even if they don't personally like the bag.
I'd assume that if one has the financial wherewithal to purchase an H bag, one has had some success in life and has had to make more than a few tough decisions...deciding whether or not you like a bag enough to spend many thousands of dollars on it should not be one. Whether you should spend many thousands of dollars on a bag at all...different question! ;)

I share your feelings on this 100%!
Another unpopular opinion coming up.
Reading through the 'relationships' thread I find myself increasingly bothered by some posters anxiety about not spending enough to get offered a bag.
Or feeling anxious about finding enough items they like or want to spend money on and therefore missing out on a bag offer.
The reason I'm finding myself bothered by this is for a couple of reasons.
Firstly that I firmly believe that shopping is a form of recreation (well-unless its grocery shopping that is but then I also quite enjoy trips to whole foods market and nice delis and Borough market here in London discovering nice food)
Shopping for non essential luxury goods is in itself a luxury and should bring one pleasure not feelings of anxiety and neurosis (have I offended my SA? Am I being ghosted? I spent XYZ yet got no offer I know someone who spent less get offered this..etc)
And finally the sense of people just throwing money at things they may not actually love or particularly desire in order to buy....A BAG
just doesn't sit well with me.
Its almost as if some people have lost their reason and sense of the value of money itself when it comes to the brand.
I know some may answer that its 'the business model' but I do ask myself if this is so?
I know its a newer thing that has come in the wake of Hermes popularity and brand visibility.
But in this day and age it feels at times distasteful and excessive.
There I've said it.
Apologies to anyone I've offended with this opinion.
I really love Hermes and have done for almost 40 years
However I vehemently dislike the way the hype around the brand makes some people behave and the way it makes some people feel insecure about their spending habits or how they dress to go shopping.
