What's the craziest thing you've done to be able to afford the bag you wanted?

Ooh, don't say that; I'm about to seriously downsize my collection (says she, having vowed to do this for several years now ...)

I would still recommend it! In my case, I'd already downsized my bag collection so had to choose between 3 that I still liked but either didn't or rarely use. I have a "1 in, 1 out" rule so something had to go before I made my new purchase. The lesson I learned is: if you're genuinely "bag content" (and I was) don't buy any more bags!

Selling gold to get a new bag... my hubby scolded me but still bring me go to buy my dream bag... that bag is chanel gst....
I think im doing the right decision ...chanel is a good investment piece... hahaha

Have to say, I go to my local ramen shop once a week lol. Fresh ramen is amazing.

That said I've never done anything crazy to afford a bag, but I do get neurotic about getting the absolute best deal. Hours of comparison shopping, researching coupons, rebate sites, etc. all in the name of saving a few bucks.

+1

I couldn't have said it better.

Is there an "all of the above" option for the question? I've basically done it all... sold one third of my closet, forego buying a car, and a few holidays. Negotiated with LOML to have one big gift instead of a few little ones throughout the year... Did not take a loan though, but put several big purchases on lay-away. Crazy amount of time researching...probably more than what I spent on a university paper.

Fair to say... most of my friends and fam think I'm a little bit crazy. :lecture:

not so crazy but..got rid of other designer handbags that just sat in the closet collecting dust (mostly older style and monogram LV's) and bought bags I really love and enjoy using

nothing out of the usual, maxing my credit cards, and for my first birkin, my friend offered to lend me some cash to put it together with what I have saved coz she knew how much I wanted it, I took the cash and got my birkin!

I paid her back of course in a couple of months' time!

Me too. I got a budget flight from the UK to Ireland to buy a Céline micro luggage in euros rather than pounds. I was utterly delighted to make a saving of £243 [emoji23]

I don't know if this qualifies as "crazy" or not, but: buy a bag instead of going on vacation

I do that all the time...partly it's also because my job is so exhausting, that during any off time I don't want to go anywhere! End up strolling in the nearby mall, or browsing online-which leads to more purchases! Yikes.

I've never done anything crazy to buy a bag but I did buy a LV Multicolor Alma in noir because I was having a medical procedure done. I guess the possibly crazy part is that when I woke up from being knocked out I promptly asked for my LV and had it in bed with me in the recovery room, all the nurses loved it lol.

I guess one other crazy thing is I can debate on whether or not to get a single bag for many months. I do research, look at photos ect. Right now I have been considering a bag for like three months and I'm not any closer to a decision. Also once I owned the same bag three times; I bought it, sold it, bought it, sold it and bought it and sold it. Will l buy it again? I have no clue!

I skipped classes in college so I could work more hours at my part time job to speed up the rate I can finish saving up for my first Chloe medium Rock Paraty (don't worry my grades were fine). Also had to live off yogurt for breakfast in my internship that summer, I can never enjoy greek yogurt as much anymore. Also had a minor breakdown when I found out my bag didn't have a slip pocket but there are ones at a different store that did get it. It was my first HE bag that I bought for myself and I needed it to be perfect. Thankfully the SCP boutique was kind enough to locate a slip pocketed bag for me and allowed me to exchange it.

For my second medium Paraty in Wine Purple, I lined up for 5 hours at the department store so I can get ~$530 worth of ********-type gift certificate for the annual sale event.

Is there a thread like this for shoes? I never understood handbag obsessions, but I am absolutely crazy about shoes! I had to work 6 days a week and 12-14 hours a day for 6 months to buy a pair of Gianmarco Lorenzi Discoballs for my birthday - I'd cry at work, looking at their pictures and thinking "just a little more, I'm doing this for my dream shoes - just a little more..." I was very happy when I finally got them! It was a real dream-come-true moment I'd never had before, and probably never will again. It's one of those feelings you only get once, it grows dim with repetition and just never feels the same again, but you remember it for the rest of your life.
