Im torn on this one. If im running about town, all casual and cool, i go for shoulder. But if im sashaying down the street, all dressed up to kill, a little something on my arm is the way to go.
One of each will get you covered for every mood, i guess...

I also like messenger/crossbody when I'm with my kids and there's a lot of chasing them around. lol

Shoulder bags. My kids would be getting hit in the heads if I had all hand held bags

That made me laugh so hard! Not becuase I think it's funny but because I've done that before and I feel SO bad, by if they're just at the right height, in the right place, they can really get smacked.

That being said, I voted for shoulder bags. I too like the option of holding it handheld and on the shoulder, but if it is one or the other, I prefer shoulder bags usually.

I much prefer a hand-held bag, think they are more elegant :P but definately practically they can be a pain sometimes - just like another poster has mentioned - I hate popping into the supermarket with a Speedy and then getting a basket - the Speedy goes up my arm but then it clashes with the basket - but at least there is a free hand to grab stuff  but its all a bit awkward LOL and I hate to place my Speedy in the trolley seat cause it "looks" so dirty - I normally get a plastic bag first then place it down LOL

I can't choose. I have all the above. It completely depends on what I am doing. If I am out traipsing about with the children, then a cross body bag is ideal. I like shoulder totes if I am going to be needing the extra carrying capacity for small packages and my sweater. Hand-helds are great when I am going to work and a clutch is all I need when I am going out for dinners or social events. And finally, if I go to a casino, I like to bring my wapity as a wristlet.

Most of my bags are handheld (love the look of it) but I do think shoulder is more convenient (the "handsfree" factor that's great for shopping and running errands). I tend to bring along shoulder bags when I travel.
