What is your hope for the future of Coach?

This is relative though. On purseforum, it is not a status symbol to wear coach branding the same way it is if one wears LV mono. If I get the Riley, I get it knowing Chanel buyers will snicker at me. So it depends on the crowd.

I get what you are saying about Coach quality but I consider it two houses in one. So I separate out 1941 from outlet stuff. Not everyone really wants to do that though, I guess.
I wish I could see it as two distinct houses; it would help if they were branded differently.

Exactly. Bags are made in China because it is cheaper, and at least part of those savings are passed on to the consumer.
Ok, but the the problem with that statement is that you want them to remain a mid level price point, but then you'd like them to go make to american manufacturing?

If coach were to go back to american manufacturing then the price points would easily rival LV/GUCCI.

I get what you're saying and you're correct.

I do know however that Coach was looking to reduce it's 85% production in China down to 40-45%, due to rising labor costs. Presumably moving to other countries where they can gouge more for their dollar.

I don't understand why the USA can't recognize that our downfall of home based companies was due to the almighty dollar. I'm sure there could be some way to bring the company back to the US without the cost of a Coach handbag going from $500 to $1000 or $1500. If it can't US politicians can't complain about having no home based companies and businesses.

I just aggravates me that nothing is made here anymore, everything has been outsourced. As far as business the US seems to be going backwards rather than forwards. Sorry for rant.

I feel like a lot of people don't even know there are 3 levels of products within Coach!
They clearly don't. Have you ever taken a look at the comments on Coach's Facebook page when they showcase a bag? You get the ones who state, "$800 for a Coach bag?! I can go to the outlets and get one for $100!" Sure you can, Karen, but it's not a 1941 bag or anywhere near as nice, but you do you..

I totally agree. I just got off the phone with my mother's prescription drug insurance......and I was talking to a person in the Philippines! Soooo many of the 'phone help' of companies have been outsourced to other countries.

I hear your rant. That, my new fellow tPFer is one reason why I buy vintage. I am going to vote with my dollars buying something on the secondary market (I love referring my local down and dirty flea market as the secondary market). A good two thirds of my bags were made in the USA and I am a sucker for Made in NYC, USA bags. Of course that was when they were a small , private company. Once stock holders enter the picture, everything changes. I hear there is a new all leather bag, made in USA company called Arayla. Someone on another thread is totally enthralled.
I am not sayng I will never buy a bag again in store(last in store bag purchase fall 2007) but for now I have found enough Coach in all kinds of condition to satisfy me. And I am now intrigued by the Dakata and Gramercy lines.

I am the same with mulberry -the bags I have kept are Made In England old but fab

on a side note, anyone who likes a well made bag that is truly made in Italy should check out mansuer gavriel, there prices have increased a little, but still around that mid price point and excellent quality.
I just bought a Leo & Violette bag that's also made in Italy. Beautiful leather and craftsmanship at a fraction of the cost of the big European design houses.

Minimum wage and the benefits companies have to provide their employees. Add to that higher power costs and real estate costs.

I have 3 of their bags, and while the designs are beautifully minimalist and elegant, I feel like the materials absolutely can't compare to Coach 1941.
