What is your hope for the future of Coach?

Great thread!

I'd like to see staple colourways for certain bags. I'm side-eying the Rogue in particular. It seems like sometimes certain colour combinations are so limited and always changing. I kind of like when other brands have classic combinations and staple bags. For me, the Rogue screams Coach 1941, it's the bag I think of and such a favourite. I thought certain colours like Butterscotch, Melon, Olive and Prussian Blue would be here to stay but they're not. I'd just like to see more consistency I guess.

I don't think many of us completely separate the status from the purchase. Signature print is an example of this. I freely admit that I don't do signature fabric, from any company. It's not a Coach aversion, it's a walking billboard aversion. Having said that, plenty of people are buying for the logo and the perceived status that comes with it. If the Cs were Ws for Walmart or T for Target and the quality and design were exactly the same, I doubt very much that people would be willing to pay the same price for the bag. I think Coach MFF bags sell well because they're Coach branded, not because the quality is so high. Any of us who remember every high school girl rushing to get one 15 years ago can attest to that. Quality had nothing to do with it for most; it was all about status. Take the Coach branding/logo off the bags, and sales would drop.

I agree that we should buy because we like an item, but I don't think many of us are really purists who completely divorce brand from value. It's just human nature to be influenced by branding/advertising.

I say this as someone who has bought a lot of Coach over the last couple of years, but as long as Coach has the outlets and MFF bags I don't see how they could possibly market themselves as having better quality than other contemporary brands. That's just not true. I think the 1941 bags are high quality, but I don't think the quality is consistently high across the brand.

Hmm, interesting! You're probably right in most cases. Personally I like the signature pieces because of the color blocking in the patterns. I find Coach's a bit more conservative and that's why I seem to favor their signature over other brands and styles.

I always liked soft leather, but got bored with it after a while and signature was the total opposite of what all leather is. I've been hooked since. Sometimes I feel bad buying all leather what with all an animal had to go through to create a leather product.

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit, but when I first bought a Coach signature, I surfed EVERY brand and company online for signature wallets ranging from Walmart (yes, when I was younger and thought Walmart actually created it's own signature logo products) to Louis Vuitton.

Coach made more conservative pieces and the black on black signature is subtle.

I never bought signature for bragging rights because even with me until a certain point didn't even know what 'C' or 'LV' even stood for. The different colors and design was intriguing. (Plus and I'll admit it) signature pieces are less expensive than all leather, so it helps me save hehe.

Just my own back story on how I became a signature fan. (Please don't judge me for thinking Walmart created signature accessory pieces).

I actually  you for willing to admit what you do about Walmart. Maybe that is the beauty of the anonymous blog. We all came from where we came from. And we are here now, sharing our passion for our bag/slg's.
edited to add, as in really appreciate your honesty lol, so you know for certain one person is not judging! I was afraid of being judged for being frumpy ( I am middle aged) because I love vintage when I first went off the vintage thread.

Thank you, with regards to signature maybe it's an ocd thing with the alphabet! Eventually I'll have a signature keyring wallet for every alphabet letter. :panic:

:yahoo:Vintage pride all the way!!! You're very right about all of us sharing our ideas, thoughts and opinions.

I have 3 of their bags, and while the designs are beautifully minimalist and elegant, I feel like the materials absolutely can't compare to Coach 1941.

I was JUST thinking this! My primary work bag is a Mansur Gavriel tote. It's held up great and I love the minimal branding and simple silhouette, but today I sadly noted that the leather is looking pretty beat up-- and not in a good way. Sigh. I guess that means there will be more 1941 bags in my future, though!

I wore my Brandy bucket out ONCE (carried crossbody), and the side of it that rubbed against my body looked beat! It's not like I cover my entire self in sharp zippers when I get dressed, either. LOL

That said, I suppose the Brandy colour looks ok with some "character". I just didn't expect it to have so much character after 1 use. :P

Having an alphabet of signature! Clever! Lol would Louis Viutton (sp? too lazy to google) count for both??

Yeah, wow, that's a lot of 'character'! :amuse: I've heard that the brandy leather is fragile, so I stuck with black/flamma for my tote...a shame, the brandy is so gorgeous! Ah well, hope you enjoy your bucket regardless!

Something else I'd like to add, since I just bought one today: Bring back the Bleecker Daily Bag! Talk about opportunities for the custom design! It would be a great bag to introduce people to the brand too. Oh, and get rid of those stupid swing packs/messenger crossbodies- they are NOT designed efficiently! Unless you have a narrow hand and pretty much nothing to bring with you, they are a worthless travel crossbody.

And there is clearly a big segment different in people who will buy an $800 embossed croc rogue (ME!) and the $4000 (not me) real thing. I fell in love with the real thing. This bag. And passed because of price.

Isn't it pretty. Love.....it was 4 or 5K.

NM finally opened a dept store in Manhattan, a first, in Hudson Yards. to celebrate their debut, NM commissioned 3 Rogue in genuine croc in red, blue-green called denim, and black. the croc skin is sourced from Colombia and crafting was done in Italy. the lining is smooth leather on the outer compartments, I'm guessing the middle compartment must be the same too but don't recall. they're so beautiful and gorgeous and looks nothing like the croc shown above (it's technically Caiman croc which is a much less expensive material). wished I had taken some pics.

the croc finish is matte and surprisingly lightweight. the hardware looks upgraded, maybe genuine bronze metal. retail is 7K I believe. looks like something Bottega V would put out. so stunning and understated.

I like that name!

I thought it was clever too. I wish I could name specifically who came up with it, I can't remember what thread I even read it under. If you're reading this and you're the one who came up with that name, let us know!!

This idea is just coming to me. - 'Cahn and Cashin' line - after the original creators (Lillian and Miles Cahn and then Bonnie Cashin). That line could include the Double C signature as a double entendre (Cahn/Cashin and Carriage Coach) sans any risque meaning.
