What is your favourite (non-diamond) gemstone and why?

I think I must have 'liked' every post but I find it interesting that pink/blue/purple stones are so many people's favourites.

I suppose I'm most drawn to sparkly green stones and my favourite of these are demantoid garnets....

I didn't see much interest for orange stones either. One of my favorite stones in mandarin garnet. It's such a beautiful, rich orange. I'm planning to get a right-hand ring next year and might go for a mandarin garnet one, something along the lines of this: https://musson.com.au/product/sun-struck-ring-mandarin-garnet-r30487-e-boutique/

Hello ladies. How's everyone doing? Has anyone got a rare gemstone in their collection? And what is the rarest gemstone you've acquired?

Cheers! ^-^

"Muzo" green Emeralds, Santa Maria Aquamarines, Pigeon Blood Rubies, Moonstones, Paraiba Tourmalines

Really love Pigeon Blood rubies and fine Paraiba tourmalines. Don't have the cash for them but I love love them.

I was in Liberty London and there was an estate jeweler with heaps of huge gemstones (rubies, emeralds, sapphires). The only pair that caught my eye were these tiny ruby studs, probably 1.5 tcw. When I asked to see them the jeweler laughed at how I managed to pick the most expensive items in the entire display.

To be fair the rest of the gemstones weren't very fine, but gives you an example of how fine rubies can really stand out.

I love them all! I have a gorgeous moonstone and black diamond necklace I love. I purchased a gorgeous Persian turquoise and diamond necklace on vacation. I love yellow sapphires (but my only piece with them is a rainbow eternity band). Also, while technically diamond, I love love love my Argyle pink diamond eternity band set in rose gold!

Emerald used to be my favorite because it was my birthstone. Then a few years ago I found out I was adopted and my birthday is not my real birthday. Now my birthstone is diamond. Funny thing is my DH upgraded my engagement setting for an anniversary one year but we kept the original antique setting and had planned on putting an emerald in it bc it's my birthstone. Now it's not. But I know I don't want another diamond in there. If I did, I'd just put the original stone back in.

Besides diamond and emeralds, I like aquamarine because it's my son's birth stone and topaz. I clearly have a thing for blue stones.

Paraiba tourmaline pendant, received as a wedding gift. I was drawn to it immediately by its shimmery, magical inner glow (due to the copper content, I found out later). A really unique sparkle, can't quite capture in photos.

Many years ago at a jewelry fair I saw the most gorgeous padparadscha sapphire. At the time I didn't have much purchasing power or I really might've gotten it, such a beautiful gem.

Alexandrite is also interesting for its color-change properties, though I've only seen small ones so haven't been wowed yet.

Jadeite/nephrite

Depending on color, translucency, inner flaws and patterns, jade can be incredibly affordable or require incredibly deep pockets.

Here are some of mine (on the affordable scale end, haha).
