i really hate hearts and radiants.
don't really like pears but it has more to do with the setting than the actual stone, which can be quite nice. it's just that there seem to be almost no ring settings for pears that i like.

favourite: cushions. especially the rectangular ones (but rather wide, i don't like the ones that are too elongated). emeralds. round. and i really love antique diamonds.

I love round brilliants, especially hearts and arrows. I like ovals. I also love the clean look of emerald cut and asscher cut. I love a nice marquise, but they are so often cut windowy and dull.

I don't like princess cuts at all.

I don't like cluttery rings. No offense to anyone who has a ring like this (to each their own) but more than I dislike any particular cut of stone, I dislike rings with pave all over (the sort of of pave which looks like it's trying to be filigree and failing) and I don't usually like sidestones. If sidestones are there as part of a design that has integrity, I don't mind, but all too often it seems as if the only purpose of all the random baguettes and half-moons and what have you stuck all over a ring is to make the center stone look bigger than it is. Which doesn't work--or at least doesn't work once you get close. I'd rather see a small center stone of good quality standing on its own in a clean design , which is rare nowadays, than one junked up with too much stuff.

Favorites:
- round - diamonds in my ears & at the hollow of my throat - also on eternity band & tennis bracelet
- oval - gorgeous in all settings
- princess - very sparkly square - absolutely gorgeous in bracelets
- asscher - very elegant cut & I like the square shape; it is not my absolute favorite but it is beautiful
- radiant rectangle - beautiful cut that throws off plenty of sparkle; also the stone in my engagement ring
- pear - I have a gorgeous eternity necklace with graduated pears; I also have cluster earrings with gorgeous pears
- cushion cut - in an antique/vintage/estate setting

Least Favorite:
- heart - too cutesy; I have two friends who have large ones - one has a 3 carat heart engagement ring & the other has a 5+ carat as a solitaire necklace; both are well cut & great quality but I can't stand either
- emerald - it is an elegant look but doesn't throw off enough sparkle for me; I really want to love this cut as it is wonderfully elegant
- marquis - I don't love this cut; I do like the ones that are fatter/thicker

Love:
Round, Princess and Cushion

Dislike:
Heart, Marquise* and Pear**

*Marquise cuts can look nice if they are 'fat' and are set west/east (think Catherine Zeta-Jones' ring).
**Pears cuts can also look nice if they are 'fat'.

I like round, oval, and-- if set right-- pear. I also like radiants that are more rectangular, as opposed to more square. I am also a fan of some of the old European cuts.

I like emerald cuts on others-- so spare & elegant-- but not quite sparkly enough on me. And somehow wrong on my very small hands. Same with asschers. Gorgeous in theory, not right on me.

I can't stand *cutesy* cuts like hearts, but then I am not really a *heart person,* in art or on clothes or what have you. And I really dislike marquis, unless set east-west.

Anyway, can't find a picture of it on its own, but here: I bought the bracelet when I was 12 and it has HUGE sentimental value to me. It kind of sucks that I'm a potter, because I always have to take it on/off.
