Chanel will be timeless and also retains its resale value over time much better than the YSL which is def more trendy.. for now. Both are stunning, the Chanel will just be more timeless

My choices (from my collection) are LV St Germain BB and Diorama woc. If you prefer something simpler and classic there's Ferragamo woc that's really elegant.
I've just. added a new evening bag to my collection. It is a sparkly charcoal rhinestone effect clutch from Luisa Spagnoli and it is made in Italy.

The moderate price point offsets the Judith Lieber clutch I bought last year and the Camellia Chanel WOC from the year before that. Between these, I think I am covered.

Does anyone have any favorite designer evening handbags? I'm looking at add an evening bag to my collection, something that is on the smaller side but not too tiny, classic, and timeless. Something that can be used for occasions like weddings, evening special events, etc.
I'm looking for something with a strap, ideally a crossbody, or a shoulder bag would be okay too. For example, I'm considering the YSL Kate small bag in black with the gold logo. But I'm also interested in exploring other options!
LC LP S Héritage, LC Hypnotic, LC Cavalcade, the Chanel Clutches with chain come to mind.

Chanel mini is as small as I go. It is def one of my forever pieces but it annoys me that for special occasion bags, cost per wear is so high!

Thanks for the great ideas! Gucci superminis are cute! I have the camera bag already though, so it's hard for me to justify buying another one in a smaller size.
I'd love to get a Chanel small, it would be a dream, but it's hard for me to justify the price at this time. I think I'd be looking to keep things under $2,000, wish Chanel had some nice options in that price range.

This is what I have used for evenings. It seems to work well both with dressy gown like dresses and low key distressed jeans. It’s vintage but in its day it was a popular style and should be possible to find second hand.
I have an old Prada clutch that doubles as both a clutch or as a crossbody bag, if you add on the crossbody strap (it gets buttoned underneath the flap). I'm sure a lot of my love for it has to do with the fact that it was a gift from one of my favorite relatives, but I like it because it fits a lot for its size (12 card slots - I've never filled them all, frankly - and two bill/receipt pockets, one zipped compartment, plus the two interior compartments, which can fit a small smartphone, lip gloss, and even a portable battery), and the leather makes it pretty worry-free for an evening bag. I recently purchased an extra chain + leather strap to change the look, as the adjustable leather strap it came with can look a little casual. I can easily go without a wallet with this bag and it's quite tough, and I like the versatility of using it as a wallet/clutch or wearing it over the shoulder/crossbody

I think with evening bags the classic looks have longevity, especially considering that for most people, such bags don't see very frequent use. Black is a classic choice, but I think most metallics (silver, gold, even bronze) are also very safe choices because they'll go with almost any outfit.
