What is the perfect evening/event bag?

I also agree with Judith Leiber. I have one black satin with gold chain and enamel rhinestone encrusted clasp for dark and bright colored dress and a grey pleated ring lizard with onyx and rhinestone clasp (palladium color) for light colored dress. What I like about JL is that of the classic design, a comes with a mirror and chain that can be put inside, no logo and can be worn in any occasions.

Reviving this thread...Still on the hunt for evening bags/clutches (doesn't have to be a luxury designer). Anyone have any favorite evening bags they own or ones that on their wish list?

A couple luxury options I'm still considering are...
YSL Kate small or medium

YSL Envelope bag

I found a non-luxury option that I really like..it's the Loeffler Randall tab clutch.

Judith Leiber always comes to mind whenever people asked me of evening bags. Her evening bags mostly clutches with shoulder strap option.
Depending on your taste (leather, exotic, sparkly crystals, etc.), you should be able to find something in your price range, especially if you are open to pre-owned or vintage. Below are samples of mine. Happy hunting!:smile:View attachment 4639231View attachment 4639233
I think JL bags are gorgeous pieces of art but I find them unwearable because of the small size and odd shapes. I always want my phone, keys and cards with me.

I like the YSL envelope bags (with Gold hardware). Can the straps be made to be hand held, or removed altogether?

I like the one with the gold hardware too. I think from photos I've seen, it can be worn crossbody, as a shoulder bag or hand held with chains. I don't think the chain can be removed, but it can probably be stuffed inside the bag so the bag can used like a clutch (similar to the Kate bag).

Have you considered the tasseled YSL Kate? I think it adds a playfulness ... possibly because I play with the tassels a lot! No regrets ... it's my most used evening bag and the quality has held up to a bit of abuse.
For non-luxury .. and when I need something with gold accents and a different vibe - I like the gold brocade ornateness of this Spencer Rutherford clutch.

Your Kate bag with the tassel looks very elegant! My overall style is more simple so I think the one without the tassel would be better suited for me, but I do like the look of the bag with the tassel.

Just found this thread. My favorite is the Mark Cross mini Grace. I’ve had a gold one for a while, and just happened on a silver one and pulled the trigger. I’d love to have a Bottega Veneta Knot someday (I’m conflicted on the bigger size + chain version, though, and might go for the original design), but I love metallic evening bags when they are done tastefully, and I think that Mark Cross hit the mark with these. I also love that it is an updated vintage style and that it isn’t that common. Some of them come with both a chain strap and a leather strap—I generally prefer the leather.

In the WOC category, I can add the two Bottega Veneta ones that I have and love. The one on the right is the mini Montebello and is a particular fave. It’s a more casual evening bag for me, and I hadn’t originally considered it for this thread, but I love it for concerts and many other special, but not formal, evenings out.
