What is the "It" bag for Fall 2018?

LV seems to be in both a design and a logistics mess right now, it's really strange.

I totally agree with you on this! Ghesquiere has been CD @ LV for nearly 5 years (OMG time flies!) and
If you'd ask me: AW 19: Dior Saddle bag (though I won't understand it), Gucci Marmont still going on. Logobags, Fanny packs (ykwIm), for winter: furry bags. I don't see "THE" It bag, more trends (Logo and bags in different shapes)
2019 big bags will be back. Looking forwards to that.

I totally agree! I don't see THE "It" bag...it's more about trends right now.

I guess that's good because you find bags that are on trend at more price points vs. when the Celine Luggage was it and you either had $2 - 3K or you were out of luck.

Not a specific bag but I agree with the poster who said logos. We’re reliving all the 90s trends and logos were huge then and are back in a big way. I’m thinking we’ll see a lot more flashy logos, LV, Gucci, MK, and maybe more Coach(I hope not they finally got back to good leather bags instead of the logo junk they were spewing out for eons). The Gucci marmont line is still pretty popular I don’t think it’s going to fade away any time soon.

Now that you bring up the 90s, I guess it sort of makes sense that's there's no "It" bag since the 90s were before the rise of the "It" bag...so the trends are more generic looking. Does that make sense?

I don't know about their logistics, but definitely agree about their design crisis.

For sure a design crisis. I know you follow LV...and I do as well...so you know how polarizing LV can be among bag lovers due to the love/hate folks have with the monogram print.

Anyway, Ghesquiere's aesthetic is not for me. The only LV bags I have purchased under his tenure are the classics in Monogram print--Neverfull, Speedy, Alma. I wish I could fall in love with some of his leather designs but I don't feel like the price point is warranted. For $4K I'd rather add $$ and buy a Chanel.

I actually really like Ghesquiere’s work for the runway. These bags are, for the most part, pretty awesome. What I m getting tired of is the loads of seasonal items dumped by the LV design team every few months. It’s mostly a bunch of unimaginative responses to various trends. It also happens on the men’s side and it has made me look at other brands.

From reading through threads, it seems like the LV Pochette Metis is super hard to come by. Same with Chanel Minis. More classic than “it”, but there are definitely wait lists.

I agree these are more classics than "It" bags...especially Chanel. I think the PM is the closest thing to an "It" bag for LV in a long time--which can be seen in the endless variations that have been produced in recent seasons. All that said, it's a classic design and definitely worth the wait!

Yeah, a lot of the autumn bags seem to have been done on a computer by an intern under time constraints... And they don't seem to relate to any sort of theme in between them. THe upcoming "galazy" or "space" collection is a great example... :/

I also don't think Nicolas has the same artistic freedom that let's say MJ had. I don't know enough about the inner working of the company, but a collection like the Koons collaboration was apparently initiated by Delphine Arnault. And even if this isn'tanything new, especially the men's collection was really dumbed down in terms of design from the runway show and even some later stock photos.

On the logicstics side, it seems like people are not getting the bags they want like the pochette metis and getting completely random answers are to when it'll be avaiable, same with some former monogram stale bags. It also seems like the company randomized how they're interacting with clients from one launch to the next. Waitlist? Lottery (!?) ? Prepay in full 6 months in advance for a reservation? Corporate pick among VIP ? You have to drop by the store every week to get what you wnat? That's the answers you'll find in the LV forum in 2018 from different stores. This could also come down to poor communication or poor management, but it doesn't give a great impression from the outside.

THIS.

I went on an LV rant in another thread that had a lot of continued dialog. Let me find it.

Here it is, from a discussion on LV spring summer 2018 when they came out with insane amounts of patchwork weirdness:

I just wish LV would be more intentional with their existing styles. Like why doesn’t the Pochette Metis come in damier? Why doesn’t the gorgeous twist bag come in any canvas (without weird appliqué on it)? Why don’t we mix metals more? I love epi leather, but I hate silver hardware.

Like, take what you’re good at and make variations. That’s what I want to see!

"Just buy what you love and what makes your heart sing!"? :happydance: :P I can write this, because that's exactly what I always write

To try and answer OP: I'd say the Dior Saddle bag seems to be hyped a bit. But mainly: LOGOMANIA. All the brands seem to have abandoned any semblance of less is more, and are sporting their logo on everything and everything. The larger the logo, the "better". Bal's Gvasalia should be publicly made to answer for this :annoyed: :P Sorry OP if you like this style :flowers: I'm obviously part of the anti logo movement

As webstore Monniers Frères put embellish it:
THE LOGOMANIA
A leading trend in the 90’s, logos are coming back strong this year. The minimalist silhouette delicately adopted these past seasons has given way to statement looks, demonstrating our degree of love for our favorite labels with branded pieces. From the iconic check pattern for Burberry, to big spelt-out logos for Balmain, Off-White, Valentino and Loewe, or MCM-style monograms, this season, avoid plain leather and assert your taste by wearing uniquely branded accessories.

I’m excited for the return of the Dior saddle bag and logomania is bringing me back to early 2000’s fashion.

I think an IT bag is a design that is groundbreaking and defines an era.

I dont think there has been a bag like this recently. The 90's throw back coupled with sticking huge logos on classic designs are all reworks (although I do think the huge GG logo was touching on it and is the only thing that I think defines our era so far and one that will be instantly recognizable in the future as a bag from this time).

It's going to take a company to come out with something completely different to anyone else, something we have never seen and marketed in an ingenious way to bring IT bag status back. And it's a risk.. so let's see what company is brave enough. One of the big guys is going to decide to be a trend setter. I think the market is all a bit bleugh at the moment. All reworks and pinching each others ideas.
