What is the "It" bag for Fall 2018?

Lady Gaga debuted the Celine bag by Hedi Slimane. Maybe that'll be a contender.

Maybe the popularity of the Dior saddle bag will continue into Fall.

I think Celine is hoping this one will gain It status like the Luggage did...but I'm not convinced. Of course, when Heidi debuted the Duffle 6 @ YSL at the start of his tenure I didn't care for it...but ended up with a gorgeous tan color one within 6 months of release! :P

Not saying anything that has't already been said really, perhaps an indication that lots in agreement means there's a trend.

Certainly the marketing money is behind the Saddle re-issue and the whole Celine HS-rebranding (the 'Gaga' bag has no logos BTW).

Since trends are not the same all over the world:
In the UK:
The Saddle is already with us but canny shoppers are buying pre-loved or resurrecting from their own closets. I think Gucci's Marmont trend will continue for a while and YSL's Niki is a new entry, which makes me think £900-1.5K bag is still the OK-it price point. UK prices could be adjusted for the new low (against the Euro as most of these bags are made in Italy) but that may mean going back to empty stores since most of our shoppers are overseas shoppers and tourists who will just choose to shop in Paris, Milan etc or wherever makes the most financial sense.

I agree with you on the desire to make the new Celine bag the "It" bag. I agree that Gucci Marmont quoted bags are on trend, I was just looking at one this morning.

The Niki bag, however, is the one I love the most! I bought a gorgeous medium black one when it was first released and have worn it quite a bit.

the price factor is a great point. I guess that's wahy the LV wave bags are priced the way they are.

I'm pretty sure a Slimane Celine bag be an it-bag soon enough, just not sure it's going to be the one gaga debuted.

BTW I guess UK shoppers might be able to to get tax refunds in the EU post brexit eh?

I agree with you--I'm not convinced it's going to be the Gaga bag either. No doubt Heidi is a gifted designer.

Probably Dior Saddle? BUT I am not so sure that's b/c of organic "it" rise to said status, or the media blitz employed by Dior to launch it into IG & Celeb hands to make us all think that?

My first thought was Dior saddle bag too. Though as mentioned, not sure it has been really flying off the shelves or just gets a lot of media buzz. The saint Laurent Niki is a contender imo. That one IS flying off shelves and iiuc they already had one price increase on such a new bag. It’s very popular though it doesn’t hit any of the fall purse trends the fashions mags are highlighting.

But was there a spring 2018 it bag? We seem to be in a lull.

I totally agree with you guys! Social media and the good old fashion industry is certainly trying to signal to us that the Dior Saddle is the next "It" bag, but for me there's no magic to the current incarnations.

The rise of the Instagram blogger in recent years has made it difficult to know what's brand hype and what's really "It". Brands today love to "seed" Instagram influencers with product they want to sell. That's not the same as what we the consumer want to buy.

For me, we know what's "It" by what we see posted on tPF. I feel like I get more of a sense of what the buzz is here vs. out on Instagram where I know they are being paid to be photographed with a particular bag.

You’re right, it’s shouty logos and oversized brand names everywhere. A trend I loathe personally
And some odd shapes too, such as the LV wave bag - not a fan! Perhaps I’m getting old

LVMH and its media partners want to make us believe that the hideous LV Wave Bag is the “it” bag of the season...

I couldn't agree more with you guys--the LV Wave bag line is something they're mighty proud of this season. Unfortunately, there's nothing inspiring about the line. :P

Thanks to all for your replies! :flowers:

A couple of years ago it was easy to see that the Chloe Drew was "It", Gucci Dionysus and Marmont have been "it" in more recent times. Mansur Gavriel bucket and Cult Gaia Ark clutch are two other examples. Right now, though, I don't see a bonafide "It" bag.

I definitely see trends--logomania, mini bags, saddle bags, belt bags, etc., but not one specific bag that is making people crazy and spawning wait lists.

I don't know, maybe handbags are no longer "it" at this point in fashion history. Maybe it's Instagram overload and too many competing images being thrown at us. For whatever reason, we are definitely seem to be in a lull on the "It" bag front.

As for me, I don't know what's next. Maybe it's to use the bags I have in my closet, but I find that such a sad alternative to blatant consumerism! :P

Psychic Silly :cray: predicts:
hobo bag trend will continue through winter.
Plus closely related slouchy-square shaped hobo style.

Also deeply afraid construction zone neons & weird shaped sh!t will give me nightmares for few more months.:-s

And bag charms remain the immortal vampires o' impulse purchase.

Thank you for your psychic reading! LOL :)

With regard to "construction zone neons" I am sure that there's a niche audience for those items but seriously don't understand why Prada would weigh into that arena. Very confusing.

That would be a miracle. The way things are going, I think the EU would like the UK/U citizens to live on the European 'naughty step' in dire poverty for the rest of eternity so they can sit and think about what they've
At least in dire poverty, people won't have to worry about tax refunds on it bags!

LV seems to be in both a design and a logistics mess right now, it's really strange.

Not a specific bag but I agree with the poster who said logos. We’re reliving all the 90s trends and logos were huge then and are back in a big way. I’m thinking we’ll see a lot more flashy logos, LV, Gucci, MK, and maybe more Coach(I hope not they finally got back to good leather bags instead of the logo junk they were spewing out for eons). The Gucci marmont line is still pretty popular I don’t think it’s going to fade away any time soon.
