what is the biggest discount you can get on a rolex watch?

Okay, I have a few questions about buying a Rolex. I stopped by a Rolex store today and I found the style I want but the price is steep and I couldn't get any discount. So, here go the questions...

1) Does anyone know of an authorized dealer who can do better? Please PM me!!! I don't mind having it shipped to me.

2) Is it really important to buy from an authorized dealer? I think there are a few reputable online companies but they are not authorized.

3) I just discovered that there are "certified/preowned" Rolex watches at some very reputable watch stores. They told me the watches are checked by the manufacturer. THere was one watch which looked good but is almost 15-20 years old. Price is about $3000 less than a new one. The SA said Rolex is meant to last a lifetime so I shouldn't care about its age. What do you think of certified/preowned? A bad idea?

TIA!!!

You should be able to get a discount of some sorts, but this depends on which one you are looking at. The stainless steel normally are more difficult to get discounted but the others (two tone, all gold) you should be able to. I have also been told that they discount more heavily nearer to Christmas (at least that is what my AD told me when I bought mine).

I wouldn't have a problem buying pre-owned. I wanted the new strap so didn't consider this myself at the time but if I bought again I would definitely consider this route. There is a dedicated rolex forum where many trade and recommend sellers - worth a look!

Something I would look out for when buying pre-owned is the stretch in the bracelet. The new strap is stronger and it is less likely to happen but I saw a Rolex in a jewellers near me with really bad stretch in the bracelet.

Also, after market parts will also mean that you can't get it serviced with Rolex, otherwise they (I believe) remove the parts and replace them with authentic ones and pass the cost on to you. I'm sure someone will correct me if this isn't the case but I have heard this.

Good luck!

Thank you! I am wanting the two tone date just and the store would not budge on price. If you know of an authd dealer who might be able to give me a discount please pm me. Also I want the jubilee link bracelet. Sounds like I should avoid the preowned given u said new model is stronger, right? And can u direct me to the rolex forum? Thank u!!!

That should be available with a pretty good discount, typically 15-20%. Really, try different authorized dealers.

There are a lot of caveats with buying preowned or gray market new. Aside from being all original and all authentic Rolex, make sure you know when it was last serviced and if it's due for that. It costs about $500.

Consider spending time on the Rolex forums on the net--they have buying and selling there, with respected resellers.

agreed. go to the rolex forums and ask around there. i've seen some really great discounts from reputable resellers.

I have never bought from this site that carries (vintage Rolex), but its local to me, and I have heard good things. As with any online site, I would call and ask lots of questions, and even check with the BBB.

^Not about the vendors there, but: consensus on the Rolex forums is that discounts are worst to nonexistent in Vegas, for probably obvious reasons. Oh, and by the way the price bump is due next week, it seems.

Sounds like they didn't try to sweeten any deal for you with the "price increase coming soon!" sort of chat. Lots of reports from ADs of 8% hike next week, but of course time will tell.

Does this mean you're zeroing in on a choice?:smile1:

Yeah, I know what I want, and they have it. But I think a boutique won't be as willing to make my DH happy about buying there as a jewelry store IYKWIM.
